Cadiz arrived to face Castellon looking for their first victory of the season away from the Carranza. As has been the case in the last couple of matches Cadiz started brightly playing controlled football but lacking penetration, which wasn't helped by the absence of Dani and Casas upfront. This also meant that Pavoni was playing alone upfront with 5 across the middle of the park, the usual formation used throughout most of last season, to little effect. Within the first five minutes Parri again showed his powerful shooting from
long range but his effort was off target. Cadiz looked very comfortable passing
the ball in the Castellon half with players finding plenty of space but they
could not capitalise on their superior possession, although the best chance came
when Pavoni slid the ball through for Lobos to run onto but Lobos was, wrongly,
adjudged to be offside. Gradually Castellon started moving the ball well and
much quicker than Cadiz and because of that they looked the more dangerous going
forward and in the 33rd minute Mario Rosas put a ball over the top of Yago and
Caneda which Reggi battled for and the ball ran loose at the feet of Oberman,
following up, who had no trouble in slipping the ball past a despairing
Contreras to put the home side one up. This has not been a good start for Cadiz and the ineffectiveness in front of goal is still there, which is the same problem they had last year, despite the number of new players signed this year. Undoubtedly most of the signings have good pedigrees but at the moment they are not playing with any confidence and the 'yellow blood' is not yet coursing through their veins. At the moment they look to be a lightweight outfit going down at the slightest touch and forever complaining to the referees, in fact Lobos was protesting so much during this game that he was substituted for his own good in case he picked up a second yellow. This amount of protest is also a strong indication of a lack of confidence going forward as they are looking for free kicks at every opportunity and even to try and get an opposition player sent off, to give them a numerical advantage, instead of concentrating on playing football and beating the opposition through strong powerful running and incisive attacking. On paper the Cadiz squad look to be one of the strongest in this division but it is on the pitch that they need to perform and all Cadistas hope that they all start playing to their best ability and as a team in the very near future so that the points start flowing in.
