Cadiz are still searching for their first home win of the season after holding fellow new-comers Celta to a 1-1 draw. Celta started the match as leaders, and unlike the home team they have been able to spend money on improving the first XI, whilst Esparrago continues to persevere with last seasons team. There was one change to los amarillos starting line-up, with Medina coming in for the absent Oli, who has travelled to Colombia to adopt a child. Cadiz started well, and it was Medina who had the first sight on goal after 7 minutes, but keeper Pinto managed to deflect the ball wide for a corner. That corner was unsuccesful, but one in the 14th minute lead to the opening goal. Sesma swung the ball in from the right, and Uruguayan Fleurquin, who went on to have a superb game, rose to direct a fine header past Pinto. As the crowd celebrated Fleurquin raced straight to compatriot Estoyanoff on the side lines. Cadiz tried to build on the goal and continued to play well, Pavoni spurning the next opportunity in the 23rd minute. The equaliser came in the next minute, and it underlined just why Celta have started la liga so well. Fine play from ex-Liverpool winger Núñez enabled him to set-up Baiano who made no mistake. What followed was a barrage of pressure from the visitors, with Armando once again proving how important he is with a string of fine saves. On the one occasion he was beaten, in the 37th minute, Baiano's shot struck the left-hand post. Pavoni did manage the last effort of the half, but he was unable to test Pinto. The second half started in the same manner, and after Baiano again forced Armando into action, Esparrago bought Bezares, Estoyanoff and Ania into the game, with Estoyanoff inparticularly helping to bring the balance of play back towards Cadiz. Ania also helped to spread the play with a fine array of passing, and a fine move saw Medina almost snatch a winner. It ended in a draw though, and whilst it was a point gained against a good side, Cadiz know they have to start turning home draws into home wins, as despite only losing twice this season they are precariously perched above the drop zone. Hopefully the next home match against Bilbao will bring the much needed first 3 points won in the Carranza.
