After the first loss of the season last week the trip to Salamanca, who went down 5-0 last week against Xerez, was vital to restore confidence and keep Cadiz with the front runners looking for promotion to the Primera Liga.

The first quarter of an hour saw both teams attacking and both having fair chances at goal, which came to nothing. Gradually Salamanca were taking command and in the 18th minute they had a free kick from outside the box, which they took quickly but the resultant effort flew just past Armandos right post. Just 4 minutes later a long ball from midfield found Velazquez in no mans land as the ball went to the feet of Pina, who had plenty of time to put a good cross over in front of goal, where Braulio was there to meet it squarely from 2 yards out. Armando got good hands to the ball but could only palm it up onto the underside of the bar and in to make it 1-0 to the home side.

In the final 15 minutes of the half Cadiz started to come back into the match and in the 35th minute good reactions from Sesma saw him latch onto a loose ball that had been punched out by Felip in the Salamanca goal, but his goal bound effort cannoned off a defender and out for a corner. A minute later and the Salamanca fans and players were screaming for a penalty when Braulio went down after a challenge by Raul Lopez, but the ref waved play on. In the 40th minute probably the best action from the visitors saw good work from midfield between Sergio and De Paula put Sergio in a position to set up Sesma on the left of the box but his effort was turned aside by Felip.

The second half started slowly and just one minute in Velazquez failed to cut out a cross field ball, which Paz was also unable to clear under strong pressure from Braulio, who then managed to turn De Quintana and fire in his second goal past a helpless Armando, who could do nothing to foil the Salamanca front man, although again he managed to get good hands to the ball. 2-0 to the home side and it was looking desperate for Cadiz but they never gave up and continued pressing forward looking to get back in the game.

All the pressing forward however meant that there were huge gaps at the back inviting Salamanca to try and break through. This they almost did in the 54th minute when a mistake by De Quintana allowed Braulio to collect the ball towards the corner flag and pull it back into the box where Ze-To  was following up but his shot was well saved by Armando. Over the next few minutes another couple of attacks saw Salamanca almost breaching the thin yellow line but some desperate tackling back made sure that the score remained at 2-0.

It wasn't all one way traffic though and the forward pressure from Cadiz could easily bring los amarillos back into the game. In the 65th minute a half chance for Sesma, whose quick reactions meant that he latched onto a Medina header before anyone else but he was unable to keep his difficult shot down on the turn and the effort went harmlessly over the bar. Within 2 minutes a fine effort from Medina was easily saved by Felip and then in the 73rd minute Moran was up ended just outside the box for a free kick to Cadiz. Up stepped the captain, Paz, to try and reduce the deficit but his effort up and over the wall also went up and over the bar.

Two minutes later the captain was needed at the other end when Ze-To chased a ball into the box and went down under the challenge by Paz. More cries for a penalty but the referee decided it was shoulder to shoulder and waved play on. With the last throw of the dice Oli sent on Pavoni, with just 12 minutes left, to replace Bezares as another attacking option. However it was Salamanca who finished the stronger with Ze-To putting in Dani Lopez, who rounded De Quintana but could only fire his effort high with only Armando to beat. Three minutes later Dani Lopez was floored in the box under a challenge by Velazquez but again the referee decided it was a fair challenge and waved play on. Then in the final minutes of time added on Armando was twice called into action, firstly tipping over a free kick by Arpon from an acute angle out by the corner flag and then to push aside a well placed header in front of goal to keep the score at 2-0.

The last two weeks have shown some frailties in the Cadiz defense with all 3 goals scored being as a result of some slack play at the back as opposed to good play by the opposition. Hopefully this will be ironed out and the forwards will start scoring again to keep the yellow submarine afloat.
