Team news this
week for the last Andalucian derby of the season sees Lucas continuing at left back and Enrique on the right wing, whilst
Buades starts in midfield in place of Pablo, Bezares starts in place of
Fleurquin and Pavoni starts in place of Miguel Garcia. There were an unusually
small number of Cadiz fans, probably less than 100, who had made the journey to
the Rosaleda to support los amarillos.
Málaga only needed 1 point to make sure that they would stay in the Segunda
A for another season began the game with the clear intention of attacking Cadiz
to try and score early and relieve some of the pressure on their players. In
particular Morales was prominant in the Cadiz area looking to head the ball past
Limia but the experienced keeper easily dealt with all the early balls thrown into the
area. Meanwhile Cadiz were looking for the quick break out by using the speed
down the wings of Sesma and Enrique and up front the pace of Acuña. After a
quarter of an hour the first real effort on goal came from the boot of Hidalgo
who fired in a fierce shot that Limia did well to dive and turn round for a
corner. From the resultant corner the ball seemed to bounce around in the area
like a pinball but thankfully no clear shot on goal came of it and eventually
the danger was cleared.
For los amarillos Pavoni and Buades combined well in the centre of the park
providing good balls mainly out to Enrique, who fired in a number of good
crosses to unsettle the Malaga defence. On one such occasion in the 21st minute
the ball eventually fell to Acuña, about 20 yards out and he fired in a great
shot past Goitia in the Malaga goal, who stood rooted to the spot, but the
linesman had put his flag up for a very tight offside decision, which could have
gone either way, but today it went in favour of the home team and the goal was
ruled out. The impressive Acuña, who looks like a great buy for the future of
the club, kept causing all sorts of problems for the home defense, whether the
ball came to him in the air or to his feet and soon he was involved again when
he nodded a long ball on, which fell in the area allowing Enrique to run onto
the bouncing ball with only the keeper to beat. Enrique got a good head to the
ball but he was unable to guide it past Goitia, who managed to palm the ball
wide.
In the last minutes of the first half the home team piled on the pressure on the
Cadiz goal but the yellow defence and Limia had no real problems coping with all
that was being thrown at them.
Within
seconds of the second half starting a long ball over the top of the Cadiz
defence was misjudged by De Quintana and his attempted clearance glanced off the
top of his head and into the path of Morales, who suddenly found himself all
alone in the Cadiz box with just Limia in front of him. The young keeper came
out quickly and closed the Uruguayan forward down forcing him to shoot quickly
but the effort was straight at Limia and he did well to block the shot and clear
the danger. The game continued with a lot of rhythm and neither side really
dominating the play. The next clear chance fell to Lucas, who has looked good in
the few games that he has played, and on this occasion he fired in a great shot
that Goitia had to dive to push wide for a corner.
With the play moving from end to end, in the 65th minute a short pass from Sesma
square to Acuña, found the youngster on the edge of the area with his back to
goal and a Malaga defender tight on his back. He swiftly moved the ball to his
right, which gave him half a metre on the defender, swivelled and fired in a low
right foot shot past the despairing left hand of Goitia and into the bottom of
the net to put the visitors one nil up.
The goal forced Malaga to press harder and, to be fair, they played some very
attractive football trying to get back on level terms. Cadiz, however, have
always been strong in defence and they were able to cope with all that was
coming from the home team. However in the 85th minute all the pressure from
Malaga finally brought results when the ball fell to Morales in the area wide of
the Cadiz goal, he calmly rolled the ball square to the unmarked Hidalgo who
easily slotted the ball home to bring the teams back on level terms. That was
how the game ended which gave Malaga the point they needed for survival and at
the final whistle the home fans celebrated long and hard as if they had won the
league. It was also probably a good result for the few Cadiz fans as a victory
for los amarillos would not have gone down well with the thousands of Malaga
fans.
