Without a point so far this season Alaves looked to perform well in front of
their home fans and started strongly right from the first whistle. Although they
enjoyed much of the possession Cadiz were not panicked and easily dealt with the
onslaught, with most threat coming from long balls into the box, which mostly
Contreras handled with ease. The first clear chance that fell to Cadiz again
came from the right side where Enrique put in a super cross to the far post
where Dani was running in but he was unable to direct the ball goalwards. When
Cadiz had the ball going forward the midfield partnership of Rivas and Parri
looked promising but it was still Alaves who looked the more dangerous and they
upped the pressure leading up to half time but the Cadiz defence held solid and
just before the break Cadiz actually had the best chance when Parri fired in a
low free kick into the area that rebounded between players legs before the
Alaves keeper managed to grab the loose ball and the half ended as it had
started at 0-0. In the final minutes both teams had chances to score again and take all three points. Firstly Alaves got the ball into the box in front of goal with two players, Mena and Aganzo, both bearing down but they seemed to get in each others way and the ball went safely wide. Casas, who had come on for Pavoni, had a strong shot that just went into the side netting and then Parri also had another effort that went straight into the hands of the Alaves keeper to keep the score at 1-1 at the final whistle. There are no easy games in this league and any points won away from home are worthwhile, especially if you can keep winning at home, which Cadiz hope to do next Saturday, when they entertain the newly promoted Cordoba, the team that they beat in the last round of the Copa del Rey.
