Oli chose to play De Paula as the lone frontman against Almeria, with Sesma and Enrique playing wide. Club Captain Abraham Paz made his first start of the season at the expense of caneda, who dropped to the subs bench.

The game started badly for Cadiz when in the fifth minute a long ball out of the Almeria half sailed over the head of right back Vella, letting in Crusat to run through to the bye line where he pulled the ball back into the box, where Michel was lurking unmarked. He had time to control the ball with his left before firing in a low right foot shot past a despairing Armando to make it 1-0 to the home side.

Cadiz fought back well and just eleven minutes later saw good work by Enrique put a through ball between the Almerian defenders for De Paula to latch onto and place a good shot past the onrushing, ex Liverpool keeper, Westerveld into the back of the net. Unfortunately the referees assistant had his flag up and the goal was disallowed for off side. In the 33rd minute a long punt up field by Westerveld was headed on to Ortiz who controlled the ball well and waltzed through the Cadiz defence only to find his shot well saved by Armando, with only the Cadiz keeper to beat.

The second half started in similar vein to the first with Almeria coming out the stronger and a flowing move from the halfway line, just seven minutes into the half, saw a low right foot cross from Crusat only partly dealt with by Paz leaving Corona with the simple task of slotting the ball into the Cadiz net giving Armando no chance.

Nine minutes later one of the most incredulous decisions ever seen gave Cadiz a lifeline. Enrique was running through in pursuit of a long ball from defence and tangled, at least 5 metres outside the Almeria box, with the left back, Mane, who appeared to swing an arm at Enrique, although didn't seem to make any contact. None of the Cadiz players claimed for anything but the referees assistant flagged and called the referee over. After a brief discussion the referee brandished a straight red to Mane, presumably for violent conduct, which may have been justified but then pointed to the spot. Up stepped Paz to blast the ball past Westerveld to make it 2-1 with 30 minutes to go and Almeria down to ten men.

Cadiz pressed forward trying to take advantage of their good fortune and good work between Vella, Sesma and De Paula, saw the frontmans shot well saved by the ex Liverpool keeper. In another attack Acuña, who had come on for Enrique with 20 minutes to go, put in a great ball across goal but saw the opportunity go begging as no Cadiz player made a run into the box. With just seven minutes left Bruno fouled Bezares and was shown his second yellow card to give Cadiz a two man advantage for the final minutes in which to try to salvage something from the game.

Despite heavy pressure Cadiz were unable to carve out any further chances and a generally below par performance saw los amarillos lose their unbeaten  status to a deserving Almeria
