At the back Cristian, one of the best players this season, starts from the bench with Caneda playing at right back. In the centre of the defense De la Cuesta and De Quintana start together for the first time this season. Last weeks midfield of Kosowski, not in the squad because of illness, and Fleurquin, Garcia and Gustavo Lopez all start on the bench to be replaced by Bezares, Parri, Paz, Natalio and Dani whilst up front Casas comes in to start his first game since the beginning of April.

Right from the first whistle it was clear that both sides were desperate for the three points with Malaga chasing hard for promotion and Cadiz trying desperately to avoid the relegation places. Both teams worked hard but neither really controlled the contest or created any clear cut chances and plenty of the action took place in the middle of the park, where passes were going astray and possession was being lost. For Cadiz the idea of Paz playing in a pivotal role in front of the back four looked to be a good one as the experienced and intelligent Portuense player was able to create time on the ball and push the team forward with a simple pass through to the midfield players or wingers ahead of him. Natalio and Dani didn't look as comfortable playing wide and the 2 top scorers this season looked out of place, although Natalio did have the best effort of the first half when his 38th minute shot from outside the area was only just wide of the mark. The ever dependable Bezares was doing what he does best and cutting out plenty of the Malaga attacks but Parri, tonight, was not up to the job of creating chances for the front runners so there were very few goal occasions for Casas, Dani or Natalio. However Limia was rarely troubled at the other end so the first half ended all square and, by and large, it was a satisfying start for Julian Rubios men.

FotoThe second half started in much the same way but within the first 20 minutes of the restart Cadiz were down to 10 men when Bezares picked up his second yellow card, which forced Rubio to send on Fleurquin for Natalio after he had already taken off Parri and put on Gustavo Lopez. There were some desperate times after that with the home team piling on the pressure but los amarillos held firm at the back and Limia was rarely troubled with most shots coming in from distance, which were either high and wide or easily dealt with by the Cadiz keeper, especially one shot in the 60th minute that he diverted for a corner. At the other end Cadiz never looked like scoring although De la Cuesta was inches away from heading a good ball in from Gustavo Lopez. With time running out Malaga also went down to 10 men when Calleja collected his second yellow card when he dived for a penalty. this did help to relieve the tension slightly for Cadiz but they were the more relieved to hear the final whistle with the score remaining at 0-0.

With the other results this weekend both Xerez and Albacete have leap-frogged Cadiz in the table, although los amarillos are still a point ahead of the relegation places and the next home game, another Andalucian derby, against Sevilla Athletic next week remains a must win for Cadiz.
