BACK TO FIXTURES & RESULTS NEXT GAME PREVIOUS GAME
Cadiz were robbed of a much needed three points by two highly controversial
decisions by referee Arcas Piqueres at the Pasarón. Cadiz made three changes to
the team that was held at home to Ciudad Murcia last week, Oli returned to the
team in place of Mirosavljevic, and Bezares and Suaréz replaced Manolo Perez
and the suspended Fleurquin in the centre of midfield. The first half was very
scrappy and neither team took control of the game. Armando was relieved to see a
curling freekick bend inches wide, while at the other end the lively Pavoni came
close to a spectacular goal when his 25 yard volley was well saved. The match
came alive in the second half.
First Enrique won a freekick on the right touchline, which he himself took.
The chipped ball found Oli's head on the penalty spot and the captain found the
top corner with a fantastic looping header. The goal sparked Cadiz into life,
and they started to keep possession and looked to have finally settled. All that
changed in the 65th minute when Pontevedra were awarded a freekick 30 yards out.
Reyes curled the ball left footed towards the far top corner, and as Armando
jumped to catch the ball he was challenged by Yobo. As Yobo's arm connected with
Armando the ball went straight through the keepers arms and into the goal, and As the final whistle was blown, Pavoni led the protests against the referee, and he was joined by the hundreds of Cadistas who had made the 14 hour journey north. A win followed by three points next week would have guaranteed promotion, but now there is a strong chance it could go to the final game of the season away at Jerez. |
