Cadiz were robbed of a much needed three points by two highly controversial decisions by referee Arcas Piqueres at the Pasarón. Cadiz made three changes to the team that was held at home to Ciudad Murcia last week, Oli returned to the team in place of Mirosavljevic, and Bezares and Suaréz replaced Manolo Perez and the suspended Fleurquin in the centre of midfield. The first half was very scrappy and neither team took control of the game. Armando was relieved to see a curling freekick bend inches wide, while at the other end the lively Pavoni came close to a spectacular goal when his 25 yard volley was well saved. The match came alive in the second half.

First Enrique won a freekick on the right touchline, which he himself took. The chipped ball found Oli's head on the penalty spot and the captain found the top corner with a fantastic looping header. The goal sparked Cadiz into life, and they started to keep possession and looked to have finally settled. All that changed in the 65th minute when Pontevedra were awarded a freekick 30 yards out. Reyes curled the ball left footed towards the far top corner, and as Armando jumped to catch the ball he was challenged by Yobo. As Yobo's arm connected with Armando the ball went straight through the keepers arms and into the goal, and remarkably the referee allowed the goal to stand. Seconds later Paz was booked whilst the ball was out of play, obviously still remonstrating with the ref regarding the equalizing goal. Soon after a through ball from the home side looked to have Cadiz in trouble, but Paz recovered and slid in to push the ball back to Armando. However the referee somehow gave a foul and in the process showed Paz his second yellow card. The centre back was distraught, and stormed off the pitch before punching the dug outs in frustration. The decision changed the whole pattern of the game, and Pontevedra then went in search of a much needed winner. They almost found it with a good move through the middle, but as the ball went past Armando, De Quintana was at hand to clear the ball for a corner. De La Cuesta was brought on for Enrique to replace Paz, and Velazquez and  Manolo Perez came on for Varela and Bezares respectively. Despite being a man down, it was Cadiz who then looked the more likely to snatch a late winner in the 4 minutes of injury time. Firstly Pavoni broke and squared the ball to Manolo Perez, but his shot was deflected wide by the keeper. Then from a Manolo Perez corner a flick on at the near post was cleared off the line.

As the final whistle was blown, Pavoni led the protests against the referee, and he was joined by the hundreds of Cadistas who had made the 14 hour journey north. A win followed by three points next week would have guaranteed promotion, but now there is a strong chance it could go to the final game of the season away at Jerez.
