BACK TO FIXTURES & RESULTS NEXT GAME PREVIOUS GAME
Cadiz had
to settle for a point in a frustrating game at home to struggling Ciudad Murcia.
Raul López started at left back with Varela switching to right back, while up
front Mirosavljevic was surprisingly given the nod, although with Oli not
training until Friday of last week due to injury, perhaps Esparrago was
concerned with the captains fitness. The match started and it was clear that
Ciudad Murcia were going to defend deeply and hope to take a draw or perhaps a
goal on the break, like Salamanca and Real Murcia have done in weeks gone by.
Cadiz struggled in the early stages to break down the stubborn defence, and it
was only the set pieces of Manolo Perez that resulted in scoring opportunities.
The best was an out swinging corner from the right which Fleurquin headed inches
wide after rising above the defence. The next chance fell to Mirosavljevic,
again a Manolo Perez set piece wasn't fully cleared and the Croats volley from
18 yards flew inches wide. Güiza was the main threat at the other end, and only
a fine save from Armando prevented him from scoring the goal that Ciudad Murcia
were hoping for. The next surge forward led to Enrique breaking down the right
wing, and when he tried to cut into the area the ball spun up and seemed to
strike an arm. The referee looked at his assistant, and despite the cries of
20,000 home fans he waved play on to the disbelief of everyone inside the
Carranza. Half time came and the referee was booed off the pitch after a number
of questionable decisions.
No changes were made at the break and the first part of the second half
continued the way of the first half, with Cadiz struggling to The result was disappointing, but with Recreativo and Eibar drawing against each other earlier in the day, the league still remains the same, Cadiz 3 points clear of 4th place, but now there are only three games left. Results this weekend mean that it would take a remarkable string of results for Celta or Alaves not to gain promotion, it just now remains to be seen whether Cadiz can join them. |
