Cadiz had to settle for a point in a frustrating game at home to struggling Ciudad Murcia. Raul López started at left back with Varela switching to right back, while up front Mirosavljevic was surprisingly given the nod, although with Oli not training until Friday of last week due to injury, perhaps Esparrago was concerned with the captains fitness. The match started and it was clear that Ciudad Murcia were going to defend deeply and hope to take a draw or perhaps a goal on the break, like Salamanca and Real Murcia have done in weeks gone by. Cadiz struggled in the early stages to break down the stubborn defence, and it was only the set pieces of Manolo Perez that resulted in scoring opportunities. The best was an out swinging corner from the right which Fleurquin headed inches wide after rising above the defence. The next chance fell to Mirosavljevic, again a Manolo Perez set piece wasn't fully cleared and the Croats volley from 18 yards flew inches wide. Güiza was the main threat at the other end, and only a fine save from Armando prevented him from scoring the goal that Ciudad Murcia were hoping for. The next surge forward led to Enrique breaking down the right wing, and when he tried to cut into the area the ball spun up and seemed to strike an arm. The referee looked at his assistant, and despite the cries of 20,000 home fans he waved play on to the disbelief of everyone inside the Carranza. Half time came and the referee was booed off the pitch after a number of questionable decisions.

No changes were made at the break and the first part of the second half continued the way of the first half, with Cadiz struggling to break down a stern defence. Something needed to be changed, and Esparrago reacted by bringing on Oli for Mirosavljevic, and Bezares for Manolo Perez. Both changes improved the team instantly, with Bezares winning possession back much quicker than before, and Oli making intelligent runs off the ball up front. The introduction of Oli also raised the crowd who seemed almost resigned to only a draw after seeing similar matches earlier in the season. Cadiz then created a couple of very good chances for their wide players. Firstly De Gomar, who came on for Sesma, chested down a cross at the far post and fired a half volley back across goal that Jose Juan did well to push wide for a corner, then Enrique met a far post cross and this time it took a miraculous save from Jose Juan to deflect the ball wide for another corner. Then in the 82nd minute all hell broke lose. A Ciudad Murcia player went down with cramp, but with the away team continuing to waste time at every opportunity Raul Lopez continued playing. When the ball did actually find its way out 4 or 5 Ciudad players raced across to the full back who was standing in front of the benches, and when the pushing between the players started on the pitch both benches came onto the pitch and joined in the fracas. When order was restored several minutes later the referee decided that Dani Bautista was the main offender and showed him a red card. With 10 minutes against 10 men Cadiz continued to struggle to create any clear cut chances, until the 92nd minute. The ball was cut back from the byline to Pavoni, and from 8 yards out he could only fire his shot inches wide.

The result was disappointing, but with Recreativo and Eibar drawing against each other earlier in the day, the league still remains the same, Cadiz 3 points clear of 4th place, but now there are only three games left. Results this weekend mean that it would take a remarkable string of results for Celta or Alaves not to gain promotion, it just now remains to be seen whether Cadiz can join them.
