news this week sees Contreras on the bench with Limia getting his chance between
the sticks, also at the back Caneda comes in with De la Cuesta also starting on
the bench. The final change to last weeks starting eleven sees Enrique begin on
the right side replacing Kosowski, who also starts on the bench.
With the home side having a really bad run recently they had a change of
manager this week and, so often is the case, it was likely that today they were
going to go all out to try to impress the new manager, which was an ominous sign
for Cadiz. However the early exchanges saw los amarillos taking control of the
action and looking the more dangerous and in just the third minute Natalio had a
chance to make it 0-1 to Cadiz after a good exchange with Raul Lopez but
Esteban, in the Celta goal, pulled off a super save to keep the teams level.
Gradually the match became a shambles with both sides losing the ball through
poor passing and plenty of hopeful punts up field and apart from one shot from
Quincy after a quarter of an hour, that Limia saved well, there seemed little
danger from the home side with their players clearly nervous in front of the new
manager. After half an hour of a dour encounter suddenly the home team were
ahead when a hopeful ball was pumped forward towards Perera on the edge of the
box with three defenders around him, the defenders had no problems in clearing
the ball out but as they pushed up to the edge of the box Perera peeled away
into space on the right side of the goal. The ball was clipped back in over the
heads of the defenders to Perera who controlled it with one touch and then fired
past Limia with Paz claiming for a hopeful offside decision, which did not come.
This seemed to settle the home nerves and within four minutes they had doubled
their lead when Quincy collected the ball on the left just outside the area, he
progressed forward swerving left and right with Cristian backing off until he
was inside the area and found a small gap to, almost pass the ball into the net
between Cristian and Caneda and into the net off the far post. Just before that
goal Dani had a great chance to equalise but his header was too high.
At
the start of the second half Procopio again took off Bezares and put on Kosowski
to play down the left giving Gustavo Lopez free rein to play just behind the
front two but this caused all sorts of problems for Cadiz who completely lost
the centre of the park and gave much too much territorial advantage away to
Celta. It was only a matter of time before the pressure was going to tell and in
the 56th minute Limia had to make a good save to foil Perera from getting his
second and again just four minutes later Limia was called into action to stop an
almost identical effort from the Celta forward. A third goal looked odds on and
so it came in the 62nd minute when Quincy again caused problems down the Cadiz
right side and managed to turn and clip a great cross into the centre of the box
where Perera had no trouble in heading the ball home from a couple of yards out
for his second and Celtas third goal. A brief glimmer of hope came three minutes
later when Gustavo Lopez put in a deep cross with his left foot from the right
hand side and Dani rose unchallenged to head the ball home near in to make it
3-1. Five minutes later and Paz came close with a direct free kick that was just
too high of the mark but it never looked likely that los amarillos were going to
get back into this game and in fact they went further behind in the 77th minute
when Quincy collected a simple pass in acres of space on the edge of the area
and had plenty of time to take a couple of steps towards Limia before firing
past the helpless keeper, who could do nothing about any of the goals. With just
a few minutes to go Dani played a ball forward from the halfway line for
Barreiro to run onto, which seemed to be hand balled by a Celta defender, for
which the linesman flagged and the Celta players seemed to stop playing but the
referee waved play on as Cadiz had the advantage and Barreiro coolly continued
and slipped the ball past Esteban for his first goal in the Cadiz first team to
make it 4-2. There was still time for another goal from the home team when the
referee awarded a penalty after a Celta forward crumpled on the edge of the box
under a nothing challenge from Cristian, a bit of a joke, but it had little
impact on the result apart from worsening the goal difference of Cadiz, as the
game finished 5-2.
This was a terrible result for Cadiz and they are now just one place ahead of
Xerez, who have been putting some good results together over the last few weeks,
whilst Cadiz have been doing the exact opposite and are now just three points
above the relegation places. At the moment the team are not playing well and
somehow, Procopio has to change it all round in the next week to get the team
playing with confidence and go looking for a big result next week at the
Carranza against fellow strugglers, Gimnastic, in a must win game for both
sides.
