BACK TO FIXTURES & RESULTS PREVIOUS GAME
Malaga started well, as the home side struggled to keep possession for any periods of time. Gerald shot over from a free-kick, whilst Hidalgo headed just over for the visitors. Former Ipswich striker Pablo Couñago then had a good chance to open the scoring, but Armando showed why he is a firm fans favourite with a superb reflex save, inviting various chants of affection from behind the goal. As the match moved past the quarter hour mark, Cadiz slowly found their rhythm, and superb play from Enrique allowed him to slide a perfect ball through to Pavoni to slide the ball past Arnau. That calmed the home team, and despite some hefty tackles Lucas Lobos started dominating possession with his usual array of fancy tricks and flicks. Malaga looked to hit on the counter attack, and just before half-time, Armando made another fine save from Alexis to keep the score at 1-0 at half time. The second half saw Oli replace Lobos, and the 15,000 fans raised the volume another notch for their final 45 minutes of Primera Liga football for at least a year. Few other grounds in the world could have seen such a colourful party from fans of a relegated team. There were numerous songs, including requests for Lobos and “Lolo” Estoyanoff to remain for next years promotion push, applause for every Malaga substitution, chants of “Malaga, Malaga” and most memorably a 15 minute spell of constant chanting, Mexican waves and jumping up and down from surely the best support in Spain. The crowd pushed the players on to another level, and although they were playing probably the worst side they have faced this season, the home team pulled apart the Malaga defence with ease. In the 62nd minute Oli lofted the ball to the on-running Sesma, and the winger from the Canary Islands volleyed an unstoppable left foot shot past Arnau. With the crowd still celebrating, Pavoni squared the ball to Sesma who´s shot bounced down into the ground and into the roof of the net 3-0. Enrique was then replaced by Estoyanoff, who was probably making his last appearance in the Carranza. Similarly crowd favourite Mirosavljevic replaced Pavoni, for possibly his last game for Cadiz – it has been announced that the Serb is available for transfer in the summer. Estoyanoff said an emotional goodbye in style, when he finished off a fine move involving Oli and Sesma with a low shot in to the far corner. Not to be out-done, Nenad Mirosavljevic followed suit with the icing on the cake, slotting past Arnau after the keeper had been fooled by his initial fake.
