Team
news this week sees Fleurquin and Caballero return to midfield whilst Rosu
starts down the left flank with Lopez Silva continuing to replace the injured
Enrique down the right. After a difficult week for the team caused in no small
measure by the comments in the press from Antonio Munoz, the president of Cadiz,
who deemed it necessary to pile pressure on the manager and the team by
criticising the commitment after last weeks draw against Ecija, the team travel
to fourth placed Marbella, who are still unbeaten at home this season. The first
couple of minutes belonged to Marbella and they won three corners in quick
succession with the Cadiz defense looking extremely uncomfortable with the ball
in the air but after that it was Cadiz who dominated
with Fleurquin and Ormazabal controlling the centre of the park allowing
Caballero the freedom to try and create some magic further up the pitch and
Lopez Silva had a couple of half chances in the opening minutes, which he hit
just too high. Then in the
seventh minute Caballero was fouled just outside the box and he got up took the
free kick with his right and fired the ball over the wall where it took a slight
deflection and past Avila, the Marbella keeper, to
put los amarillos one up and looking in fine form to take complete control of
the match. However after just 15 minutes of the game came the turning point and
for the third time in the last five matches it is the decisions of the referee
that are making the headlines. Christian, the Marbella forward, was heading
towards goal with just Casilla to beat when he was challenged by Delgado who
stuck out a boot and the forward went down, a definite free kick and yellow card for the Cadiz defender but the
referee, Figueroa Vázquez, pulled out a straight red card to the astonishment
and anger of the Cadiz players who were now forced to play a man down for
virtually the whole match. From the resultant free kick Casilla managed to block
the effort before the ball was finally gathered in by him thanks to Fleurquin. With the extra man
it was the home team who powered forward with Cadiz adapting a more defensive
stance, which they never look comfortable with, but they held out well until the
34th minute when Pedro crossed the ball into the area where Santi Moreno was
unmarked between Mansilla and Fleurquin and he was able to nod the ball home to
make it all square at 1-1. In the final minutes of the half Marbella could have
gone further ahead if they had capitalised on some poor defensive mistakes by
Raul Lopez, Mansilla and Casilla but thankfully for los amarillos the half time
whistle came with them still in the game but facing an uphill struggle in the
second half.
Just
two minutes into the second half and things got worse for the visitors when
Toedtli collapsed to the floor with a muscle problem that forced Gracia into an
early substitution, sending on Barreiro as his replacement and this was after
Alcala had fired the ball in on goal with the effort just nicking the wrong side
of Casillas post. To their credit Cadiz kept trying to push forward with Rosu
and Lopez Silva causing problems down the wings. In one such play Rosu was
fouled and took the subsequent free kick that he floated to the far post where
Mansilla was positioned in a very dangerous area but he went down, appearing to be
fouled by Alcala but the referee waved away the penalty claims of los amarillos.
Despite being a man down Cristian, the Cadiz right back, continued to join the
attack down the right and Cadiz created several half chances that neither
Barreiro, Rosu or Ormazabal could convert. In the 75th minute a cross from Lopez
Silva found the head of Fleurquin but the effort from the captain was too
high of the mark. With the clock running down Marbella pressed forward and in
the 85th minute the breakthrough came when the ball was played into the Cadiz
box and that man Santi Moreno collected it and fired the ball over Casilla to
make it 1-2, although the Cadiz players were claiming a foul against Alvaro in
the lead up to the goal that was rejected by the referee. The match ended with
Marbella still unbeaten at home but that was not the end of the story as the
Cadiz players remonstrated with the referee after the final whistle he showed
red cards to both Fleurquin and Caballero, which means that Cadiz will now lose
three regulars through suspension for next weeks home game against Ejido, which
kicks off on Sunday, 19th April at
18.00.
