With
three injured players this week some enforced changes sees Delgado return to the
heart of the defence alongside Mansilla, which allows Fragoso to move up
into the middle of the park to replace Fleurquin. Cortes starts as the
replacement for Caballero and Juanma replaces Enrique on the right wing. The
opening ten minutes on a very warm afternoon in Seville were pretty level but
after that Cadiz got into their stride and virtually dominated the half with
Ormazabal linking well with the wingers, Lopez Silva and Juanma, and the front
man Toedtli. It was a good play between Toedtli and Ormazabal that saw the first
clear chance for los amarillos when the centre forward slipped the ball to the
midfielder but his powerful shot was turned behind thanks to a great save by
Arturo, the Ecija keeper. From the resultant corner taken by Lopez Silva,
Toedtli climbed high and got his head to the ball but the ball went agonisingly
the wrong side of the post. In the 25th minute a good shot from the left by
Juanma smashed into the post and bounced out to Lopez Silva on the right of the
box, he controlled the ball and played it back inside for Ormazabal to run
on to and fire the ball home to make it 0-1 to Cadiz. Shortly afterwards and
Cadiz had the ball in the net again when Juanma converted a pass from Cortes but
the effort was ruled out, presumably for offside. As the half progressed the
only danger created by the home team came from free kicks but these were all
easily handled by Casilla and his defenders, whilst it was Cadiz who looked the
more likely to score with Toedtli again rising well to head the ball towards
goal but again it was just wide and just before the half time whistle Lopez
Silva had a great chance after a good pass from Toedtli but his effort, although
on target, was easily dealt with by Arturo.
The
second half started with the home team obviously having been given a strong team
talk by their manager, none other than ex Cadiz player and manager Oli, as they
came out playing strongly and closing down Cadiz quickly, stifling any attacks
and instead pressing forward themselves looking for the equaliser. With half of
the second half gone Cadiz had not caused any problems whatsoever around the
goal defended by Arturo, although for all the possession that Ecija had they
also had not really created anything. With time running out and all subs used
Barreiro had a header that was off target and Juanma had a half chance that came
to nothing but at the other end in the 81st minute Luna came close to grabbing
the equaliser with an effort that was just off target. In the final minute of
time added on Amarilla beat the offside trap and raced into the Cadiz box with
just Casilla to beat, he fired the ball across goal and it beat Casilla to make
the final score 1-1.
Although this was another two points dropped it does mean that Cadiz are now
definitely in the play offs for promotion and they can now concentrate on trying
to get that second chance of promotion by winning the league title.
