FotoWith Calderon relinquished of his duties after the Jerez game this was Raul Procopio's, the B team trainer, first team selection. With Fleurquin suspended, Diego Rivas out injured and Parri unable to play against his former team, Procopio called up young Dani Fornell from the B team as midfield cover. Team news sees Paz return to the centre of defence after his one match suspension for his red card a couple of weeks ago, to partner Caneda with De la Cuesta starting from the bench. Raul Lopez returns at left back replacing Gonzalo Vicente who also starts from the bench. Bezares comes into midfield to replace Fleurquin with Miguel Garcia filling the spot left by Parris absence. Up front Dani again starts with Casas relegated to the bench.

With the club again unsettled with changes at the top the Cadistas were out in force to show their support for the team in the late afternoon sunshine in a must win game against strugglers Albacete. Whilst some of the fans were still taking their seats los amarillos were ahead within the first minute. A free kick was floated over towards the far edge of the Albacete penalty area by Gustavo Lopez, which was headed back, by a defender, to the edge of the box straight to the feet of Miguel Garcia who was lurking unmarked in a very dangerous position. He controlled the ball well and fired in a low right foot shot that went in by the near post with Jonathan, the Albacete keeper nearer the other post and not in a position to even try and dive to save the ball. The relief of being ahead flooded through the stadium and it was clear to see how much this meant to the players as they celebrated the goal. Cadiz continued powerfully and had much the better possession, although on several occasions they had worked some great positions but the final ball or pass was rushed and the play broke down. The main culprit for this was Enrique who seemed to get worse during the match in his attempts to produce the perfect pass and seemed to be affected by the increasing unease of the crowd when a pass went astray. There were some excellent passages of play from los amarillos with Enrique, Dani and Natalio all having efforts on goal but without success and the best move of the half came from Cadiz with the ball played from the back down one wing, across the middle to the other wing and then into a very dangerous position in the Albacete box but unfortunately on this occasion the defense were able to clear the danger. As for the visitors their best chance came after more than 20 minutes had been played and that came from a free kick taken by Barkero that was inches off target. But then in the 33rd minute, ex Cadiz player, Fernando Moran turned to chase a ball over the top as it headed towards the Cadiz area, Paz, who was marking him was slightly off balance as he turned allowing Moran a half a yard start. As Paz struggled to keep his footing Caneda came across to try and cover the break but he was unable to get on terms with the Albacete forward and looked to have clipped the heels of the Albacete player who went down in the box. The referee immediately went for his cards and showed the central defender a straight red, giving the visitors a penalty and a chance to get back on terms with Cadiz. Barkero put the ball on the spot and then stroked the ball to the right of Contreras as the keeper went to his left and so the visitors found themselves all square despite being under pressure for nearly all of the game up until that time. With a numerical advantage Albacete had their best period of the game as Miguel Garcia dropped back into the middle of the defense alongside Paz and Gustavo Lopez came in off the wing to cover the middle of the pitch, which left plenty of spaces for Fernando Moran, especially, to cause problems to the home side but Contreras was able to deal with a couple of very dangerous balls that found there way across the front of goal with the Albacete attackers bearing down. With just a minute to go to half time Gustavo Lopez limped off to be replaced by De la Cuesta.

FotoThe second half started as the first had ended with the visitors looking the more dangerous, with Barkero going close from another free kick. Then in the space of two minutes Jonathan was called into action to keep los amarillos at bay. Firstly Natalio collected the ball on the edge of the area and clipped a great bending shot towards the top corner of the far post but the keeper flew to his left to punch the ball around the post for a corner. He was then called into action again this time to block an effort from Dani. For the visitors the diminutive Alustiza, who had come on as substitute showed some excellent control to firstly curl a left footed effort dangerously just outside the far post with Contreras struggling to get across to cover and he then forced Contreras to dive to collect another dangerous effort. Twenty minutes into the half and Kosowski put over a free kick towards the far post, which the keeper easily caught but Dani had been making ground towards the rear post and was unnecessarily pulled back by Kike. The tug was spotted by the officials and the referee pointed to the spot and booked Kike. Up stepped Paz to take the spot kick. As he run up to take the kick Jonathan made a move to his left and Paz coolly chipped the ball down the centre of the goal to make it 2-1 to Cadiz, sending the players and Cadistas into a frenzy. The visitors were not going to lie down and came back strongly looking to get a result with Contereras again having to make two good stops from Alustiza and Peņa. With a quarter of an hour of the game left Procopio sent on the young Dani Fornell to put some fresh legs into midfield taking off Dani and pushing Natalio a bit further up field. With time running out and both teams looking tired spaces were opening up all over the pitch and danger lurked whenever a team had control of the ball. With 5 minutes left the Cadistas were relentless in their vocal support of their beloved team and definitely played their part in helping the team to the much needed victory and the support wasn't lost on the players who threw their shirts into the crowd at the final whistle.

Next week sees los amarillos travel to Numancia to take on the runaway league leaders and certain promotion favourites.
