BACK TO FIXTURES & RESULTS PREVIOUS GAME NEXT GAME
With no win in the last 6 games Cadiz have been sucked back into the pack behind the top 3 and a victory at Las Palmas was needed to push los amarillos further up the table and to keep their slim promotion hopes alive. Straight from the kick off Cadiz played as if they were the home team dominating the possession and looking for the opening goal. With Lucas Lobos starting down the left, Pablo down the right and with Pavoni in between los amarillos were attacking with flair and control. Within minutes of the start a good centre by Acuņa was picked up by Pavoni whose effort was well saved by Nacho Gonzalez in the Las Palmas goal. Another three minutes later saw Pavoni break through the home defence again only to see his effort diverted round the post by Nacho. Las Palmas were relieved to still be on level terms and started to play with a bit more confidence and set about trying to push forward themselves. Shortly after a quarter of an hour in their first effective attack of the game Trashorras forced Armando to dive and tip the ball round the post. After the initial onslaught by Cadiz the match was played out very much in the centre of the park with the Canary Islanders forcing Armando to save, quite easily, on a further two occasions, before Pavoni headed the ball goalwards, which seemed to strike the hand of a home defender. With the Cadiz players claiming a penalty the referee waved play on and the first half finished with neither side being able to open the scoring.
Las Palmas responded well and an effort by David Garcia saw the ball clip the wrong side of Armandos post and away for a goal kick to Cadiz. In their efforts to get back on level terms however Las Palmas were leaving more spaces for Cadiz to exploit, which they did with devastating effect. Firstly Lucas Lobos had a shot on goal, before he was substituted, and was unlucky to see his effort just clip the wrong side of the post. Then on came Sesma for Lobos and within four minutes of his entry on to the game park he had fired in an unstoppable effort, which was on a par with Miguel Garcias opener, to make it 0-2 to los amarillos. With the home fans starting to leave the stadium Cadiz played with confidence and within eight minutes of going two up Pavoni did well to pick up the ball. He then went on a weaving run past several of the opposition players and as he bore down on the Canaries goal slipped the ball square to Acuņa, who made no mistake in slotting the ball home to make it 0-3 to the visitors. With just over ten minutes left to play and with Cadiz rampant it looked ominous for the home team. On several more occasions Cadiz almost went further ahead with the best opportunities falling to the feet of Medina and Nano but at the final whistle the score remained 0-3 to Cadiz. Unfortunately with the top three all winning Cadiz could get no closer to the promotion places although they moved up to fourth place in the league, an incredible jump of 6 places so close is it from fourth place downwards.
