Foto jornadaWith Paz suspended this week after his red card last week Cesar Caneda slots into the middle of defense alongside De la Cuesta and Gonzalo Vicente replaces Raul Lopez, who starts from the bench, at left back. The only other change from last weeks starting line up sees Parri replace the injured Diego Rivas.

With the home team currently lounging in the relegation zone they were desperate to beat their arch rivals and take all three points in this local derby. It was the home team that started strongly with leading league goal scorer, Yordi, firing in a shot that was just too high of the mark after just one minute of the match. In the first quarter of an hour Cadiz were more than a match for Xerez and in the 8th minute Natalio had a goalbound shot that Porato, in the Xerez goal, had to punch behind for a corner. Gradually though the home team dominated the opening half and the Cadiz defense and goal were under intense pressure, with Yordi looking extremely dangerous when he had even the slightest look at goal. All that Cadiz could show in attack was one occasion when the ball was chipped over the Xerez back line and Enrique ran onto the ball with just the keeper ahead of him, but his first touch to control the ball was probably too good and the ball got slightly tangled under his feet, which allowed a defender to make up the ground and tackle Enrique before he could get a shot away. The home team were definitely the stronger and looked very dangerous down the right wing where Pedro Rios was causing Vicente all sorts of problems. On one such occasion it was the  winger who was in the box to powerfully head  a cross from the right back, Redondo, but his effort crashed against the top of the bar and behind to safety for Cadiz and so, rather fortunately for Cadiz the half ended as it had started at 0-0.

FotoThere was little change to the action at the start of the second half with Xerez continuing to be the more attacking. Inevitably the ho,me team were soon to go ahead, when just ten minutes into the half the ball was whipped in from a corner on the right side, which flew to the back post where Casas was unable to clear the ball under pressure from a Xerez player and the loose ball was fired home by Aythami. Shortly after going one down Antonio Calderon through on all his attacking players with Bangoura, Dani and Kosowski coming on to replace Casas, Parri and Enrique. Certainly after the goal the home team seemed to sit back a bit and this allowed Cadiz more of the possession but despite this los amarillos were unable to eke out any clear cut chances. With almost ten minutes left of normal time the few hundred Cadiz fans, who had made the trip to the Chapin, were starting to be herded towards the exits as the police wanted to escort the Cadistas to the train station before the match ended in order to avoid any trouble with the home fans. As the Cadiz fans were making their way towards the exit suddenly Cadiz were back on level terms when in the 87th minute a long ball from the back from Gonzalo Vicente was headed on by Bangoura and Dani was there running into the box to clip the ball home with his right foot into the far corner of the net. Moments later and all the Cadistas were outside the stadium on their way to the train station whilst the match continued inside. As the trail of Cadiz fans and police headed off a great roar went up from inside the stadium. As the Xerez fans would not greet a Cadiz goal in that way it was obvious that the home team had scored a winner. Thanks to the TV cameras we are able to finish this report. In the third minute of time added on another cross from the right wing found Yordi in between two Cadiz defenders able to leap and head the ball powerfully downwards from a couple of yards out. The ball bounced into Contreras and into the goal, with Contreras undoubtedly disappointed that he didn't manage to stop the effort from going in. The goal scorer then picked up his second yellow card, rather unfortunately, for, presumably, an over exuberant celebration and so the home team went down to ten men but there was no time left for Cadiz to try and take advantage of the extra man and the referee blew the final whistle with Xerez picking up the points.
