Enrique starts on the right wing replacing the injured Kosowski with Diego Rivas returning to first team action alongside Fleurquin in the middle of the park. Up front Bangoura drops to the bench with Casas starting for the first game since the 20th January 2008.

With both teams desperate for points the first half was a dour affair with very little danger created from either side and most efforts at scoring were from long shots outside the area. The first chance on goal fell to the visitors when, ex Cadista, Raul Martin fired a shot on target but Contreras was well placed to deal effectively with it. Moments later and good play between Raul Martin and Rodri caused the home defence a problem and the final cross went across the Cadiz area with no Elche player following on into the box to try and convert. The clearest chance that fell to Cadiz came when a Gustavo Lopez cross from the left was not controlled by Casas and the defense were able to clear the danger. In the 31st minute Raul Martin broke into the Cadiz box and went down as Contreras challenged him and as the referee whistled, the crowd were stunned into silence as they thought he was awarding a penalty to the visitors but in fact he booked Martin for diving and gave Cadiz a goal kick. Before half time Contreras was called into action again this time to catch a Luna shot from distance. The only other effort worth mentioning came when good play down the right involving Cristian and Enrique ended with Cristian putting over a super cross into the middle of the goal but the Elche keeper, Willy, was able to leap and catch the ball off the head of Casas.

FotoThe second half started in the same vein as the first when Contreras was again called on to block a long shot. However within a few minutes of the start of the half Cadiz were starting to take control of the action and looking the more likely to score and take the points. With Parri coming on in the 58th minute for Rivas the message was clear from Calderon that he wanted the team to press forward and within a minute Gustavo Lopez fired a left footed shot from outside the area that went across Willy and smashed into the far post before rebounding back to the edge of the area where Natalio collected the ball and managed to get a shot away as he slipped forcing Willy to dive to his right to touch the ball away for a corner. Shortly afterwards Parri took a free kick that was inches over but it was los amarillos who were piling on the pressure and looking the more dangerous. Willy was being kept busy as the yellow tide flowed forward but he was up to the job and kept the score at 0-0. Good play between Parri and Gustavo Lopez resulted in a cross going to Casas but he was unable to make anything of it and shortly afterwards he came close again. This time Natalio made ground into the box and fired in a good shot that Willy managed to block but as the ball bounced free Casas was following up but could only clip the ball wide. In the 76th minute Raul Lopez put in a great cross from the left byeline that flew to the back post where Dani rose to head the ball home from six yards out to make it 1-0 to los amarillos.

With time running out Cadiz looked to be in control to take all three points but in the 87th minute a cross from the right was missed by Fleurquin near the edge of the box and the ball fell to the feet of an Elche forward who controlled the ball well and lined up to shoot on goal. As the ball left his boot Paz threw himself in front of the player with his right leg outstretched to try and block the effort but the ball missed his leg and flew onwards striking his left arm as it trailed behind him, diverting the ball behind. Although Paz had made no movement with his hand to try to intercept the ball the referee blew up and awarded Elche a penalty, which on the evidence before him seemed a reasonable decision but he then showed the unfortunate Paz a straight red for the offence. Up stepped Cobo to slot the ball into the right hand side of the goal as Contreras dived to his left to make it 1-1, which is how the match ended with the points shared.
