 The
starting line up tonight is the same as last week and in front of a good crowd
hopes were high of the first victory of the season. As in the first home match
in the Carranza against Salamanca right from the whistle it was los amarillos
who had all the possession and dominated the play with the visitors getting
numbers behind the ball. Too often the final ball into the box is poor and
asking much too much of Toedtli, who is, more often than not, the only Cadiz
player in the area. At the moment only Lopez Silva looks hungry to score and he
is not scared in taking players on or trying a shot from distance. In fact in
the first half his was the only real effort to try and break the deadlock but
the ball was easily collected by the keeper. Ormazabal did break through
strongly but as he tried to clip a bouncing ball over the keeper it was the
Cordoba keeper who managed to collect the ball easily, Enrique was also in
a good position to try a left footed shot but tried to play in Toedtli but to no
avail and Cristian tried a long shot from the right that wasn't that far over
the bar. At the other end Casilla was almost a spectator himself although when
he was called into action it was usually to deal with corners and he again
looked nervous with the ball in the air and on a couple of occasions the
defenders were looking to him to take control of the situation but instead there
was uncertainty, thankfully Cordoba were unable to take advantage and the half
ended as it had started at 0-0.
 At
the start of the second half Gracia put on Caballero for Abraham, who had worked
hard and switched play a couple of times with long cross field balls but was not
really penetrating the visitors lines. Within two minutes of the start of the
half Caballero chased a ball into the box and then cleverly clipped it back
across from the bye line into the centre of the goal where Toedtli managed to
leap and get a header on target but Navas, the Cordoba keeper, somehow managed
to leap and palm the ball up from underneath the bar, on to the bar and behind
for a corner. Cadiz powered forward looking to break the deadlock and Erice
tried a shot that wasn't far off, this was followed by a cross from Lopez Silva
that Enrique stretched to try and divert in but all he managed was to injure
himself and he was soon replaced by Nano Gonzalez for his first outing for los
amarillos. With his very first touch he was played in well by Caballero with
just the keeper to beat but he didn't connect well with his left footed shot and
the effort was easily gathered by Navas. Next to try and score was Cifuentes who
saw a sweet right footed shot fly just high of the mark from 20 yards out.
Tristan replaced Toedtli with some fifteen minutes left and from a Caballero
corner Erice headed the ball to the back post where Tristan was free some four
yards out with a great chance to score but his header was too high. With the
clock ticking down Cordoba broke out and caught the Cadiz defence cold when
Fragoso and Cifuentes tangled and it was 2 against 1 as Alvaro Silva tried to
slow the breaking forwards down but the ball carrier, Savoia burst into
the Cadiz box with Casilla to beat. As Casilla came out to narrow the angle
Savoia turned inside and looked as if he was going to break the cadistas hearts
but Alvaro Silva managed to block him and finally the ball was scrambled away.
In time added on a great break forward by Cadiz down the left saw some one touch
football finally getting through the Cordoba defensive wall and the ball at the
feet of Ormazabal bursting forward on the edge of the area with just Navas to
beat but his shot was agonisingly the wrong side of the post and the match
finished goalless. If los amarillos are going to be fighting at the top of the
table this season then they have to start scoring, because despite controlling
these first three games they have only scored once and currently stand on just
the two points.
