Foto jornadaThe only change to the side that started last week saw Caneda move in to the centre of defence replacing Yago Yao, who was away on international duty, with Vicente making his first league appearance for Cadiz at left back. Both teams came onto the pitch for the initial ceremonies wearing white t-shirts with number 16 and the name of Puerta, in honour of the Sevilla player who died at the age of 22 after suffering a heart attack during Sevillas first league game of the season against Getafe. There was also a minutes silence before the game for the fishermen who had lost their lives when the Nuevo Pepita Aurora fishing boat based in Barbate, tragically capsized off the coast in heavy seas on Wednesday.

The match started with Cadiz fast out of the blocks and controlling the game from the first whistle. In the opening encounters Enrique on the right for Cadiz was looking lively and beat his man to put a good cross over that unfortunately came to nothing and shortly afterwards won a free kick on the edge of the box, which again came to nothing, but caused problems for the visitors. In the twelfth minute a really good passage of play saw the ball fed out to the left where it was collected by Gaston Casas, who noticed Enrique free on the right and fired a long pass over to the speedy right winger. Enrique controlled the ball easily and strode towards the byline and put in a perfect cross into the centre of the goal, where Gaston Casas headed powerfully in from 10 yards out, after running into the box following his initial long pass, to put los amarillos 1-0 up and looking as if there were more goals to come. In the 16th minute the picture of  Antonio Puerta was shown on the two large video screens in the Carranza and the crowd fell silent for one minute, whilst the game continued in front of them. Shortly afterwards Salamanca started to pressure the Cadiz players and were beginning to look the more dangerous side and in the 23rd minute only a despairing leap by Contreras  kept los amarillos ahead when he managed to reach and parry, with his right hand, a powerful header from right in front of goal and the loose ball was thankfully cleared by a defender. Unfortunately during this play De La Cuesta badly sprained his ankle and was carried off to be replaced by De Quintana. Although Cadiz had a couple of long range efforts from Lobos and Casas they didn't bother Alberto in the Salamanca goal as they both went high over the bar. As the half wore on Salamanca continued looking dangerous and in the 40th minute they won a free kick in front of goal about 25 yards out. Quique Martin took the kick and fired the ball goalwards where it crashed into his own player Daņobeitia and bounced up before he managed to turn the ball past Contreras from close range to make it 1-1. But as the Salamanca players wheeled away to celebrate in front of their bench and the referee looking as if he'd awarded the goal, the Cadiz players pointed out to the ref that his assistant on the right had his flag up and after a very brief conversation the referee cancelled the 'goal' and awarded a free kick to Cadiz from where the goal had been scored and seemed to motion to the Salamanca players that it was because of handball. During the next break in play the Salamanca players surrounded the referee and furiously remonstrated with him over his decision, earning yellow cards for Alberto and Bustos. They continued their arguing at the half time whistle before being pushed towards their dressing room by the Salamanca management team with the half ending 1-0 in favour of Cadiz.

FotoAt the start of the second half Diego Rivas came on for Cristian, who had picked up a knock in the first half, with Bezares moving to right back. Salamanca continued where they had left off and pressed forward looking for an equaliser and twice in the opening quarter of the half Contreras was called into action to drop onto the ball to make fairly easy, nevertheless important, saves. He was also called into action to intercept a number of crosses that he did well and looked very safe under intense pressure. As the half wore on and with Salamanca pressing ever on gaps were beginning to show at their back and twice within a couple of minutes Dani, who was by then the only forward after Casas had been substituted for Parri, found himself in good positions to score. On the first occasion he picked the ball up by the halfway line and raced past two opposition players and bore down on goal with three Cadiz midfielders streaming forward to his right with the Salamanca defence stretched. It looked as if his options were to take a left foot shot himself or slide the ball to his right for one of the other Cadiz players to fire towards goal but instead he tried to turn inside to put the ball on his right foot and was tackled by one of the few defenders. Shortly after he was in a similar position as he collected and controlled a long ball on the edge of the Salamanca box with only one defender between him and the goal and looking as if a left foot shot was the best option but again he tried to turn inside to get the ball on his right foot and was tackled by the defender. With the crowd singing 'vamos Cadiz' for almost the whole of the last ten minutes Cadiz worked hard to keep the visitors at bay and in fact almost scored their second when a long ball out of defence was miscued by Alberto, some 30 yards out of his goal and Dani was the first to race onto the loose ball with the goal wide open to him but as he slid the ball goalwards a tremendous dive by a retreating defender intercepted the effort with the ball ricocheting for a corner. With just seconds left in time added on De Quintana jumped to head a ball out and clattered into the back of a Salamanca forward, which earned him a rather harsh straight red from the referee who decided that he had used his elbow too forcefully. The game ended with Cadiz the victors but on their performance Salamanca should not be at the bottom of the league without a point for the season so far.
