Cadiz started their run without the injured Lucas Lobos with an entertaining draw against Real Murcia in the Carranza. Sesma, Medina and De Paula were the attacking trio ably backed up by Miguel Garcia and Sergio. Cesar Caneda retained his place partnering De Quintana at the back at the expense of club captain Abraham Paz.

As has been the norm this season, Cadiz started brightly and kept possession well. Murcia instantly dropped into two solid lines of four and looked like they had come for a point, although they were looking to the talents of Jofre, Antonito and Ivan Alonso to nick a goal at the other end. For fifteen minutes the game went as expected, with Cadiz probing for an opener and Murcia defending their area well, although De Paula and especially Medina were making some promising runs in attempts to find the breakthrough. “Cacique” Medina had the best chance when he missed the target after a mistake from keeper Notario. Murcia then managed to put together a classic counter attack, and a dangerous final ball could only be helped behind by Raul Lopez. Two quick corners were followed by a third, and Ivan Alonso managed to outmuscle Caneda to head past Armando.

The goal that the visitors craved had arrived after just 16 minutes and their defensive game plan was now as visible as ever. Many of their players also seemed to be picking up petty injuries, and time wasting techniques were used as early as midway through the first half, to the disgust of the home crowd. Sergio and Miguel Garcia struggled to get involved, and too often the home side looked for the direct pass through the middle instead of spreading the defence across from wing to wing. When they did eventually spread the ball wide, Raul Lopez combined well with Sesma, who delivered a good cross to De Paula, who dispatched a fine powerful header back across Notario and in off the post. The goal sparked the home side back into life, and the next 5 minutes before half time saw more chances than the previous 40. Sesma failed to control a fine through ball when well placed, and then a super move down the right ended with Medina’s back heel just missing the target.

With neither side making any changes at the break, the match continued in a similar vein, with Cadiz having the lions share of possession and starting to create chances. Sergio had a good chance after great work again from Sesma, but as he hesitated his left footed effort missed the target. Then Murcia reminded the home side that they were still capable of scoring again, when Alonso superbly shielded the ball from Caneda and fed Antonito, but this time his hesitation allowed Raul Lopez to recover and clear the danger. Acuna entered the game in the 54th minute, and as has been the case already this season the youngster managed to lift his team mates another notch. As the midday temperature soared, both teams visibly tired, but on the hour mark Cadiz nearly scored. De Paula slid through a fine ball to Sesma, who then passed across goal to Acuna, and despite an unfortunate bobble the youngster managed to get a firm shot at goal but unfortunately it was well saved by Notario. So close to his first competitive goal, which surely won’t be far away.

Then as the match started to look like it was heading towards a draw, a seemingly blatent dive by sub Tato earned Armando a yellow card and the visitors a penalty in the 85th minute. Captain Armando was livid, but took his place on the line and ensured justice was done with a fine save as he dived down to his left. There was still time for the impressive Sesma to clinch a late late winner in the 93rd minute, but as he stretched for a far post cross, his volley fizzed back across the face of goal and agonisingly wide. A point wasn’t a bad result, and the amarillos are still unbeaten, with 7 points from their 3 games.

Although its early in the season, its worth noting that local rivals Xerez have won 3 out of 3, and it could develop into quite a battle between the Andalusian neighbours over the season, with the first derby at El Chapin on December 3rd. Before that though comes next weeks trip to Almeria, who have yet to pick up a point this season.
