GAME
The same starting line up this week as started last week and which now
appears to be Gracia's choice as the strongest eleven. With the match being
televised by Canal Sur 2 the match kicked off at 16.30 on a sunny Saturday
afternoon with Cadiz hoping for another three points against their Andalucian
rivals. Right from the kick off it was clear that los amarillos were going to
dominate most of the play with the opposition looking to counter quickly on the
break. In the first couple of minutes a great chance for Cadiz to go ahead when
Lopez Silva, who had another great game, crossed to the far post where Enrique
headed the ball goalwards from a couple of yards out but Campo, the Granada
keeper, managed to block the effort and Toedtli was unable to hook the ball back
from the bye line and the danger was past. A few minutes later and a Caballero
corner from the right was headed goalwards by Ormazabal but again Campo saved
well to keep the scores level. Then just before the quarter hour mark a defining
moment in the game when a Cadiz attack broke down and Granada poured forward
quickly with the ball being played into Israel by the penalty spot his powerful
shot was well saved by Casilla but the referee seemed to have spotted an
infringement and to the astonishment of everybody, the fans, the Cadiz players
and the visitors who had not appealed, the Sevillan referee pointed to the spot
and booked Fragoso. Up stepped Ocana and with Casilla diving the wrong way
Granada were one up completely against the run of play but surely the mighty
Cadiz would come back as they have done on several occasions this year. Indeed
they did power forward and Enrique collected a chip through from Fleurquin
in a great position in front of goal, he controlled the ball well but with time
he smashed the ball agonisingly over the bar. This was followed shortly
afterwards by Lopez Silva putting in a great right foot shot from the edge of
the area that was curling right into the top corner by the far post but again
that man Campo was agile enough to leap and clip the ball over. Then a burst
from the centre line took Ormazabal past one Granada player and he battled with
two others as he raced into the box but he just lost control of the ball before
he could line up a shot and he was eventually tackled with the danger cleared.
Before half time the referee showed a yellow card to the Cadiz manager,
presumably for comments he had made from the side lines and he also showed a
yellow to Delgado who brought down Ruiz, after another quick break, as the
Granada forward was racing clear just outside the box.
Within the first minute of the restart a left footed shot from Ormazabal from
the edge of the area went just the wrong side of the post with Campo well beaten
and despite still being behind it looked as if Cadiz must get back on terms and
even take all three points. A free kick on the edge of the Granada box was taken
by Toedtli but his effort was just the wrong side of the post but then just four
minutes into the half Caballero chased back with a Granada player heading
towards the Cadiz box and it looked for all the world as if he managed to get
his foot around the ball and come away with it but as the player from Granada
went down the referee blew for a free kick some 20 yards out. Whilst there were
numbers of los amarillos in the box to defend they were half asleep as Ocana
played the ball to Lafuente unmarked on the right side of the box and as Casilla
started to go to close him down and then stop in no mans land the Granada pocket
dynamo drilled the ball past the Cadiz keeper to make it 0-2. Within five
minutes it was three down when a corner from the right was only just reached by
Casilla, who appealed for a push against him, under the bar and the ball bounced
in the middle of the goal just two yards out where Lafuente was the first to
react and bundle the ball home. From that point on it was almost all Cadiz as
Garcia was shown his second yellow card after bringing down Lopez Silva to
reduce the visitors to ten men with almost a third of the game still left. Still
the chances came first was Caballero who collected the ball in the box,
controlled it and then fired over and then the ball was in the net after Delgado
challenged for a cross with the keeper but, although initially the referee
seemed to point to the centre spot and a goal, within seconds he had instead
awarded a free kick to the visitors. Time and again the ball was played down
both the channels but on many occasions the final ball in was too high, too
short or behind the other Cadiz players racing into the box and when they did
get it right Campo was there to thwart them especially saving against Barreiro,
until finally in the 79th minute Enrique got one right and put the ball nicely
into the box where Barreiro nodded it home to make it 1-3. In the final minute
of time added on Toedtli was hauled to the ground in the box and the referee
immediately blew for a penalty, which Toedtli took and rather luckily saw his
effort squeeze under the body of Campo and trickle into the net to make the
final score 2-3.
This is a big week for Cadiz with three games in eight days and so this
wasn't a great start but hopefully their trip to Antequera on Wednesday night
will see los amarillos back on the right tracks before the visit next weekend to
the Carranza of Real Betis B.
