Cadiz lost ground on yet another fellow struggler as for the first time this season they find themselves 4 points from safety. 300 Cadiz fans made the trip to the Balearics and saw Esparrago make two changes to his starting eleven, bringing in Enrique for Estoyanoff and Oli for Medina. Cadiz came out of the blocks the quickest, and Enrique was involved in the two separate attacks that both ended tamely. From then on, it was Mallorca who were in the driving seat. In the 14th minute Victor met over an innocuous looking cross and the ball nestled in the back of the net, 0-1 and any plans of defending a 0-0 were out of the window inside quarter of an hour. Mallorca then spent much of the half keeping possession in the Cadiz half, with Prats, their goalkeeper, often a spectator for long periods. Lucas Lobos managed a long shot on target, but Prats made a regulation save and was never troubled. The second half wasn’t much better, with Basinas and Arango the two main danger men for the home team. Limia was stranded in the 52nd minute when the 2 combined ending with a header rattling the woodwork. Ten minutes later Jonas tried his luck, and his shot from the edge of the box was millimetres from settling the game. Estoyanoff came on for Enrique, but his only significant contribution was a 5th yellow card of the campaign, earning the Uruguayan a suspension. Medina came on for Suarez, but it was too little too late, and despite slightly having more of the play in the final minutes Cadiz were unable to snatch an equalizer. With the in-form Athletico Madrid next up at home, then a trip to Valencia, Cadiz must dig deep to ensure they give themselves every chance of staying in the primera liga for another year.
