The
only team change this week is the enforced replacement of Toedtli, who collected
his fifth yellow card of the season last week and so serves a one match band,
and his place is taken by Rubiato. The first half commenced with Cadiz clearly
in control of the pitch with patient build ups and some good passing movements
that created some pretty good chances with Lopez Silva firing just too high and
both Rubiato and Ormazabal forcing a save from Calleja, the Puertollano keeper,
but there were several occasions when los amarillos burst forward with numbers
but the final ball was of target or the wrong pass was chosen. On one such
occasion Caballero burst through from midfield with Enrique to his right,
Rubiato ahead of him and Lopez Silva on the left but instead of slipping the
ball to one of them he tried a left footed shot from outside the area that flew
well wide of the mark. Another frustrating player today was Enrique, who is so
often a match winner but can also be the player that brings cries of derision
from the fans, and today it was the latter as his final ball was all too often
over hit or behind the Cadiz forwards. Eventually however the Cadiz pressure did
bring about the opening goal and it was from a well rehearsed free kick from
Caballero from the right hand side just outside the Puertollano penalty area
onto the head of the onrushing Fragoso who powered the ball past Calleja to make
it 1-0 to los amarillos. At the other end Casilla was a virtual spectator as the
visitors only got close thanks to a couple of free kicks launched into the box
but from one of these the Cadiz keeper was clattered into and slumped on the
ground. After treatment he continued on until half time and was not troubled
again.
At
the start of the second half Casilla did not reappear on the pitch but instead
Dani took up his place between the sticks. It was pretty clear right from the
start of this half that the visitors were suddenly going to make a game of it
and they closed down the Cadiz players much quicker than they did in the first
half, which led to plenty of misplaced passes by los amarillos, however Cadiz
still managed to get into some very dangerous positions but did not do enough to
trouble Calleja and the biggest culprit was Enrique who raced through into the
box with just the keeper to beat but instead of shooting he tried to slip the
ball inside but it was easily cleared by a defender, another time Cadiz were
attacking in numbers and Cristian raced past the Cadiz winger looking for a
little ball to the bye line but the winger instead fired the ball over to the
other side of the pitch looking for Lopez Silva but it was over hit and went out
for a throw to the opposition, with Cristian looking in disgust at his team
mate. Then a great bit of individual skill from Lopez Silva saw the left winger
control the ball by the sideline lob it over the head of a defender in close
proximity and then race around to collect the ball and race towards the
Puertollano box where he slipped the ball to the right at the feet of Rubiato
but the hard working forward tried to just move the ball on to Enrique instead
of controlling it and turning to get a shot away and his attempted pass was
intercepted and the danger was cleared. At the other end Cadiz were defending
well but the visitors were looking dangerous and in the 69th minute it was all
square when a cross into the box from Valdes was nodded past the helpless Dani
by, this leagues current top scorer, Tariq to make it 1-1, which was very
disappointing for Cadiz who had plenty of numbers back. Dani was called into
action on a couple of occasions and he coped well by catching one deep cross and
punched another one well clear before dropping to his left to foil an effort
from Honorio. With time running out Rosu, who had come on to replace Caballero,
broke through with the ball on his favourite left foot and it looked as if he
would fire a shot on goal but instead he slipped it to his left to Alvaro and
the danger was soon past as the move eventually broke down without troubling the
visitors goal and the match ended all square.
The starting line up is now virtually unchanged each week and it would be
hoped that playing together every week would bring the best out of the team but
there are still way too many times when the play is broken down by poor play
from los amarillos rather than any play from the opposition. As it happened this
week the dropping of two points at home has not affected the lead that Cadiz had
at the top of the table as both the second and third teams also drew at home and
the lead remains at seven points.
