news this week sees Enrique return to the right wing after suspension and Ramis
moves over to the left, with Lopez Silva starting on the bench. With Cadiz
looking more and more in danger with a four point gap already from salvation it
was vital that los amarillos took all three points today in the Carranza. In
front of a good crowd and with the sun shining through the rain clouds, that
have been shedding their loads over recent times, Cadiz started brightly and
looking hungry for a positive result. All the players were working hard to close
down the opposition whenever they got the ball and when los amarillos were in
possession they controlled the ball well and with purpose. A little more than
five minutes had passed when Enrique was played through and he beat his marker
for pace but his effort was a weak one. In the eleventh minute it was Enrique
again who raced on to a through ball from Cristian and managed to clip it back
from the bye line across the face of the goal where Toedtli rose well between
two defenders to get enough on the ball to see it sneak past Cabrero, the
Albacete keeper, to make it 1-0. Still Cadiz powered forward with Ramis showing
good skills and pace down the left creating problems for the visiting right back
and it was the Uruguayan who came close in the 18th minute when he had ventured
inside and was played through beating the back line for pace but his effort over
Cabrero was agonisingly the wrong side of the post. On another occasion he
muscled his way clear of the right back and raced on to the ball in the area but
with Enrique free at the back post Ramis tried to score himself but took a bit
too much time and a defender managed to block the effort. The chances kept
coming for los amarillos and Enrique leapt well to get a clear header in but it
flew high over the bar, Erice picked up a ball that had been punched out from a
corner by Cabrero but his right foot effort , although on target, was caught by
the Albacete keeper who had managed to regain his ground. At the other end of
the park Casilla was called into action to save a short range effort from Sales
who managed to pick up a loose ball in front of goal with just the Cadiz keeper
to beat. Apart from that the visitors rarely troubled Casilla although both he
and the central defenders looked comfortable when the visitors attacked but at
the end of the first half it was Cadiz who went in 1-0 up and looking in
complete control.
How
could things change so drastically, after just one minute of the second half
Mansilla tried to play the offside trap but he has neither the football nous or
the speed to try such a dangerous play and Sales was through with just Casilla
to beat, which he did rather too easily to make it all square. Then the flood
gates opened as Cadiz just seemed to capitulate and allow the visitors to stroll
through them as if they were not there and as the crowd turned against this
display Albacete managed a second just twelve minutes later when a corner from
the left was not cleared by the defense or Casilla and the ball seemed to bounce
around in front of the goal for what seemed like ages before it was bundled home
by Hidalgo to make it 1-2. Cadiz were now all over the place and passes were
going astray and they were unable to put any sort of move together, whereas the
visitors continued to cut through los amarillos like a hot knife through butter
and in the 65th minute the ball was played through the Cadiz defense behind
Cristian, who amazingly looked as if his boots were full of cement when he
turned but was trounced by Hidalgo on the outside who raced towards the Cadiz
box and with Casilla seeming to dive out of the way he coolly slotted the ball
home with so much of the goal to aim for to make it 1-3. At this point many fans
could take no more and left the stadium, whilst those left behind made it
blatantly clear to the players and the management that this was totally
unacceptable and even applauded the Albacete players off the pitch when being
substituted. Then with still some twenty minutes to go what turned out to be the
critical moment in the game when the visitors were reduced to ten men after
Tarantino upended Enrique and picked up his second yellow card. Within five
minutes los amarillos were just one adrift when Tristan powered a header home
after another good cross from Enrique. It almost became shooting practice for
Cadiz as they took full advantage of the numerical superiority and Cristian
tried across/shot that flew just over the bar from a narrow angle from the
right, on the other side Bogunovic had a similar cross/shot that almost beat the
keeper at the far post and then Mansilla found himself free a few yards out but
he was unable to turn and keep the ball down and his effort was high of the
mark. With five minutes of normal time to go the ball was played over the top
and Lopez Silva collected it and played it square where Enrique was running in
and he poked the ball home to make it all square. Then Cabrero pulled off a
superb one handed save to thwart Tristan but a minute later he was unable to
stop a low shot from Fragoso from twenty yards out and the ball bounced into the
net to make it an incredible 4-3 to los amarillos. Finally a great result but
the way the defense collapsed at the start of the second half is a cause for
considerable concern and but for the sending off the result may well have been
different.
