GAME
After
the two sendings off last week there are two enforced changes this week. In
comes goalkeeper Dani for his first full league outing and another debuter is
Cifuentes, who replaces Raul Lopez at left back. The only other change sees
Mansilla replaced by Fragoso at the heart of defence. With the Cadiz Carnaval in
full flow many of the cadistas were in fancy dress today and the atmosphere in
the Carranza was one of hope that the game would be more like the last home game
against San Fernando rather than the disappointing one last week in Melilla.
Right from the start los amarillos looked to be the dominant force but as has
happened too often in the past the passing was not fluent and was pretty
laboured and there seemed little danger that Moso, the Linares keeper, was going
to have a busy afternoon. The visitors were quick to close down the Cadiz
players but, apart from one scare when Dani dribbled around an onrushing Linares
forward just a yard out from the line, were unable themselves to put any serious
passing movements together but their industry certainly had a spoiling effect on
the game. The first chance for Cadiz came from their top scorer, Toedtli, who
managed to control a pass over the top but his shot was fairly weak and Moso
easily caught the effort. Then around the twenty minute mark a couple of chances
fell to, probably the best Cadiz player today, Ormazabal who had a powerful
header fly just wide of the mark and he then fired a shot too high after good
work down the right between Enrique and Cristian. Shortly afterwards Enrique had
the ball in the net after Lopez Silva had taken a quick free kick to Caballero
and his squared pass was guided in by the right winger but the linesman had
flagged that Caballero was offside and the goal was ruled out. Lopez Silva, who
has been playing so well recently, was pretty ineffectual down the left and was
not making those surging runs that has been causing so many problems to the
opposition but he did race towards goal with three defenders around him but he
failed to notice Ormazabal racing with him in space ready to collect a little
pass from the left winger and the chance was lost when he was easily tackled.
With just three minutes to go before half time Cadiz were ahead when Lopez Silva
spread the ball wide to Enrique who raced towards the bye line before chipping
the ball back into the box where Toedtli was unable to get his head to it but
Fleurquin following up behind was well placed to nod the ball into the back of
the net to make it 1-0. A couple of minutes later and Linares had the ball in
the net after Sosa headed a free kick home but he was waved offside and the goal
was ruled out.
The
second half started in exactly the same way, which was a bit disappointing
because the game was really quite scrappy and was not living up to the expectations
of the cadistas, who decided to just enjoy the occasion with the Fondo Sur
orchestrating the festivities amongst the crowd. First they invited the
Preferencia to all stand, wave hands in the air and cheer, this was followed by
a similar invite to the Fondo Norte, then to the Tribuna and when all had
followed the lead the Fondo Sur invited the whole of the Carranza to stand, wave
hands in the air and cheer. With the electric atmosphere inside the stadium
amongst the cadistas the game almost became of secondary importance with neither
side really troubling the keepers, although Dani was called to jump well and
catch a couple of dangerous looking crosses, which he did admirably. In the 59th
minute probably the best move of the match saw Linares break from midfield
passing swiftly forward and then wide to the right wing followed by a cross to
the edge of the box which was well met by Moreno but his shot was just wide of
the mark. The final twenty minutes were all Cadiz however and Cristian went
fairly close with a shot and then Fleurquin headed on to the top of the net but
still there were few clear chances until in the 85th minute Caballero took a
corner from the right that Ormazabal headed powerfully beyond the keeper and a
defender on the line to make it 2-0. There was still time for another clear
chance when Caballero ran onto a ball down the right and clipped it back by the
near post where both Rosu and Rubiato had run to but they seemed to get in each
others way and Rosu finally managed a shot on the turn but it was well wide of
the mark and the game finished 2-0 and another three points to add to their
already healthy tally.
