The yellows raced out of the
blocks, and in the opening 20 minutes played the kind of free flowing football
which has the fans still dreaming of promotion. Pablo Hernandez has been a
superb acquisition and it came as no surprise when he was the key factor in two
early goals for Cadiz. First in the 7th minute Medina set Sesma free
down the left and his deep cross was bundled in at the far post by the winger,
and then just 6 minutes later he teased 2 defenders in the box before crossing
low and hard for Pavoni to slide the ball into an empty net. The pace eased
slightly after the goals, but still Cadiz looked the more likely to score the
next goal. Raul Lopez hit a deep cross which cannoned back off the far post and
then Medina should have done better when put clean through, but credit must go
to Felip in the visitors goal as he stood his ground and cleared with his feet.
The one black mark on the first half was an injury to the impressive Buades, but
he was replaced by fans favourite Bezares in the heart of midfield.
It was encouraging to see a clean sheet with first choice centre backs Paz and De Quintana both missing, and with Raul Lopez now injured it looks as though Neru will get a further run in the team at full back. It was a shame to see Almeria snatching two late goals to nick a win at home to lowly Castellon, who host Cadiz next weekend. The gap remains 5 points to the promotion places but in this form no one is writing Cadiz off with 48 points still to play for.
