The only change to the starting line up sees Abraham start in midfield with
Lopez Silva moving back to the left wing and Nano on the bench. Amongst all the
rain that has been falling on Cadiz recently the clouds drifted apart and the
sun shone on the Carranza today for the early kick off, which was because of the
Carnival taking place later on this afternoon. It turned out to be a dream start
as well for los amarillos as the ball was played wide to Cristian and with Enrique
drawing defenders towards him further to his right space opened up and Cristian made
progress towards the area. With space ahead of him he played a pass forwards
towards the middle of the goal looking for Abraham to run onto it but the
onrushing Abraham was unable to make any contact on the ball but Calatayud, the
Hercules keeper, was obviously put off by his run as he let the ball bounce
pretty innocuously beyond his right hand and into the net to make it 1-0.
Regrettably the lead was short lived as just six minutes later an impressive
passage of play through the centre of the park ended with Totes playing a one
two with Delibasic and collecting the ball as he ran into the Cadiz area leaving
the Cadiz defense snapping at his heels and he managed to slip the ball square
where Gomes coolly fired home to make it 1-1.
Once the visitors equalised the pressure was more on the goal defended by
Casilla and he had to dive to his right to catch one long distant effort from
Delibasic and then had to leap to his left to tip away another effort from
Sendoa. Then in the 22nd minute Hercules had a dead ball situation up in the
Cadiz area and the ball came out quickly to Abraham who broke swiftly and played
in Enrique down the right, the winger raced down the wing and put a quick cross
in towards the far post where Lopez Silva raced in and slotted the ball home to
make it 2-1. Still Hercules looked dangerous going forward with a speedy
frontline looking to have the beating of Alvaro Silva and Mansilla and again the
visitors managed to play through the Cadiz defense and pull the ball back in
front of an open goal where Fragoso managed to thwart Gomes picking up a second
and the ball was scrambled away. At the other end good play between Enrique and
Cristian found the Cadiz right back racing towards the Hercules area with space
ahead of him just crying out for a shot but instead he tried to lift the ball
over towards Lopez Silva pushing him out wide and the opportunity was missed and
the half ended with los amarillos in the ascendancy 2-1.
With both sides playing an open game either side could easily score and in
the 59th minute the clearest chance fell to Toedtli who rose unopposed to head a
cross from the left agonisingly high of the mark from just a few yards out. Then
Toedtli played the ball in to Abraham racing into the area and he managed to
chest the ball down but was unable to make contact with a swinging left foot to
get a shot away. At the other end a break down the right saw Hercules manage to
play the ball through the Cadiz defenders again where Kiko pulled the ball
square into the path of Tote with an open goal beckoning but Alvaro Silva just
managed to do enough to stop a second goal going in and Enrique raced back to
boot the ball out for a throw in. unfortunately from the throw in the ball went
to Tote who managed to get a yard on Erice near the bye line and put the ball
square where Delibasic managed to divert the ball past Casilla at the near post
to make it all square again at 2-2. Still both sides went looking for a winner
and in the 78th minute Enrique collected the ball at the far post with just
Calatayud to beat but the keeper was able to block the right wingers shot with
his body and the danger was cleared. Another break through the middle by
Hercules ended with the ball on the wide right and again the ball was driven
across an open Cadiz goal with nobody managing to get any contact. With time
running out Tristan clipped a lovely centre to Lopez Silva who was racing into
the area but the Cadiz players header was just too high from a few yards out to
keep the score at 2-2. In the final few minutes the referee took centre stage as
he showed a rather harsh second yellow card to Gomes to reduce the visitors to
10 men and then just two minutes later he did the same to Alvaro Silva, again
another harsh decision as the defender clearly diverted the ball in his
challenge, but both sides were down to ten men for the final 5 minutes or so.
Both sides had a final shot to try and get the winner but both efforts from
Lopez Silva and Sendoa were well off mark and the game ended a pretty fair 2-2
in an excellent match for the spectators. The draw still leaves Cadiz in the
relegation zone and playing some good football. Esparrago has certainly changed
one aspect of the Cadiz play in that they rarely build across the back now but
look for longer balls out of defense and are now scoring more goals
however the defense looks vulnerable and pretty desperate at times and they are
leaking too many goals, with the lack of pace of Alvaro Silva and Mansilla
causing concerns. What a shame that Avraham Paz, for so long a Cadiz player, was
wearing the Hercules shirt today when Cadiz could certainly do with his
undoubted classy abilities in the heart of the defense.
