Team
changes this week sees Fleurquin return after suspension and Caballero return
after injury to replace Fragoso, who starts on the bench, and the injured Fran
Cortes. In a very windy North African enclave of Melilla los amarillos could not
have started any worse when just two minutes into the game Casilla had several
options to deal with a ball trickling out by the corner flag but chose the wrong one when he booted the ball
back to the feet of Rufino who had no trouble in stroking the ball into the
empty net to make it 1-0. With the wind at their backs in the first half it was
the home team who were dominant and just over ten minutes after the first goal
the lead was doubled. As Cadiz tried to attack down the right Cristian raced
forward but the move broke down and the ball was played into the open space
where Cristian would normally have been defending and the speedy Acoran raced
onto the ball with just Casilla to beat and he slid his shot underneath the
Cadiz keeper to make it 2-0. Cadiz did not seem to have any answers against this
team, who they had beaten 3-0 back in the Carranza, although Enrique fired in a
good shot that Dorronsoro, the Melilla keeper, did well to dive and get a hand
to the ball to divert it behind and so the half ended with los amarillos well
and truly on the back foot.
At
the start of the second half Gracia put on Fragoso for Mansilla, who had
struggled against the pace of the Melilla front line, to try and bolster the
defence and add another outlet for building an attack from the back. With the
wind now at their back at least Cadiz were looking better and were certainly
more competitive but rarely looked dangerous and the fluid passing play from
last week was just a distant memory. Then in the 63rd minute an absolute
disaster when again Melilla broke quickly with Rufino racing towards Casilla as
the Melilla forward managed to round the keeper Casilla took him down leaving
the referee with no option but to show a straight red and put an early end to a
very disappointing day for the Cadiz keeper. Gracia immediately threw on Dani,
the replacement keeper, and played with just the three at the back in an attempt
to try and get back into the game. It looked as if the plan might work when just
a couple of minutes after going down to 10 men los amarillos were only one
behind when Toedtli controlled the ball with his chest and fired it home to make
it 2-1. Although a man down Cadiz were now playing their best football of the
day and the home team were looking nervous so maybe Cadiz would be able to get
something out of the game. However despite having the greater possession for
some time los amarillos were unable to break the Melilla defence and create any
further clear chances, although Lopez Silva came close after a great move and
then Rosu headed just too high, but just two minutes from time the match was all
but over when Migui fired in a left footed shot from distance that beat the
despairing Dani to make it 3-1. This however was not the final straw for Cadiz
when, in time added on, Raul Lopez was adjudged to have tripped Ramos in the box
and the referee pointed to the spot and showed the Cadiz left back a second
yellow card, reducing Cadiz to 9 men for the final few minutes. Up stepped
Fernandez to take the penalty but Dani guessed correctly and beat the ball away
and the match ended 3-1.
This second consecutive defeat on the road leaves Cadiz six points clear at
the top of the table with next weeks match at the Carranza against Linares
kicking off at 18.00 on Saturday 21st February.
