Jose Gonzalez made three changes to the team that started against Murcia last week. Raul Lopez returned after suspension, Buades replaced Bezares and Sesma started in place of Nano, who dropped to the bench.

It's carnaval time in Cadiz and the atmosphere in the Carranza reflected that, with many supporters adorned in fancy dress. With the third and fourth placed teams playing in an Andalucian derby hopes were high of a great game. And so it was to be.

Straight from the kick off Cadiz were on the attack and within the first 15 minutes the home team broke down the right through Pablo. On the first occasion he went past a defender in the box to the bye line and pulled the ball back to the 6 yard box. The cross eluded Westerveld , in the Almeria goal, and arrived at the feet of Sesma with the goal beckoning. Unfortunately it was just behind him and he had to stop the ball with his right foot before swivelling to get a shot away with his left. The few seconds taken to control the ball allowed the Almeria defense to block his effort. In an almost identical play Pablo again beat the defender down the right and fired in a low cross in front of goal, with Medina running in but he was just beaten to the ball by a defender, who put the ball behind for a Cadiz corner.

Los amarillos continued to dominate and press forward and the next chance fell to Fleurquin, who rose well, but unchallenged, to head the ball from a corner goalwards, regrettably though it flew a few feet wide. Almeria defended well but it was all Cadiz and Armando, in the Cadiz goal, had hardly touched the ball. That was all to change when in the 30th minute a ball from the central midfielder, Huche, found Mane on the left edge of the box. He controlled the ball well and fired in a low cross in front of goal, which Ortiz, the Almeria captain, managed to get to ahead of Caneda and fire past the helpless Armando to make it 0-1 to the visitors. Suddenly there was a deathly silence in the Carranza as the home supporters were stunned by the goal, that was so against the run of play. The silence was not to last long as the ever faithful home supporters soon raised the decibels again with their rousing support of los amarillos.

Just 9 minutes later Pavoni, won a free kick on the right hand side about 25 yards out. Up stepped Abel Buades, who looked very assured and skillful, to take the kick. He put in a great left footed in-swinging cross towards the far post that was inches over the heads of the Cadiz big men but it was also over the out-stretched fingertips of Westerveld and it flew in just under the bar in the top left corner to bring the teams back to all square. Then with seconds left in the half a storming break from Cadiz found Sesma by the half way line push the ball forward with 3 Cadiz players running through. Pablo was first to the ball and he guided the ball past the helpless Westerveld to make it 2-1 to the home team. The referee signalled the goal but, as los amarillos and the crowd celebrated, he noticed his assistant with his flag raised by the half way line. He went over and consulted with his assistant and then broke hearts as he ruled the goal out, presumably for offside (confirmed by TV replays) and the half ended with the teams all square at 1-1.

Within 2 minutes of the restart Cadiz found themselves with a one man advantage. A long ball over the top was being chased by Pablo, although it was easily going through to Westerveld, but the defender, Cisma, who was tracking back tugged Pablo's arm, causing him to go tumbling and the referee had no hesitation in showing Cisma a, rather harsh, straight red.

Cadiz took advantage of their numerical superiority and pressed even harder. The attempts on goal kept increasing with the best chance falling to De Quintana, who was alone at the far post, but shot over, from Pablo's centre, with the goal at his mercy. But just 5 minutes after that effort a great pass by Buades allowed Pablo to beat the offside trap, at last, and run onto the ball with only the keeper to beat and he made no mistake to make it 2-1. Surely the way the team were playing and with their numerical supremacy, Cadiz would take the three points.

With the crowd still celebrating the goal, Almeria restarted and pushed the ball to their wide left. A short pass backwards to Mane and then the ball was in the air flying towards the Cadiz box. Ortiz was again first to the ball and his powerful header went high into the net with Armando stranded bringing the visitors back on even terms.

The encouragement from the tiers continued unceasingly in an effort to raise the team even more. The team didn't disappoint as they continued their efforts to win the game. Pablo continued to be a thorn in their side and put in some telling crosses from the right, none of which could be converted. On the other wing the ever impressive Raul Lopez, marauding down the left, combining with Sesma, was a huge threat. On one occasion Lopez picked up the ball from an Armando throw out, passed it forward to Sesma, who pushed it on for Lopez to run onto. After collecting the ball he rounded a defender, ran into the box and slid the ball back by the penalty spot for someone to follow up but the red and white defense managed to clear it. In the 70th minute Acuņa came on to replace Medina and just 6 minutes after coming on he raced through onto a good ball forward. He was just first to the ball and under pressure from the defender and with Westerveld bearing down he managed to get a shot away, which not only beat the goalkeeper but also went agonisingly just past the post. Still the attempts on target kept mounting with Pavoni probably having the best chance when the ball fell to his feet on the edge of the area but he was leaning slightly backwards and his effort sailed harmlessly over the bar.

In the final throw of the dice, with just minutes left, Enrique came on for Pablo, who looked to have twinged a ligament when running back to defend one of the very few Almeria breaks. The first touch of the ball by Enrique found him free on the right side of the box bearing down on goal and his pull back was screaming for someone to follow up and win the game but again it was not to be as the defense again got the ball away. With seconds left a good centre from Vella was met by Pavoni but his header went straight into the arms of the keeper. At the final whistle the teams shared the points at 2-2 and the teams received a standing ovation, especially for los amarillos, who put on a tremendous display of football.

A draw was disappointing against the promotion rivals, which leaves Cadiz 5 points off of the third promotion place. However there is still a long way to go and if the team continue to play such positive and powerful football they will definitely be up there come the end of the season. Next up is Salamanca at the Carranza, which is due to kick off on Saturday the 24th February at 18.30.
