The home side started brightly, and looked to close down Osasuna quickly and hit them on the break. It didn’t take long for the tactic to work to the maximum as Cadiz broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. Benjamin fed Lobos who calmly fired past Ricardo to ease the tension around the ground. Cadiz didn’t sit back after their dream start, and although Osasuna had some possession in midfield they never threatened Armando’s goal in the first half an hour. Lobos was hungry for the ball and was involved in most of the attacking play, but unfortunately it was this seasons surprise package Osasuna who scored the next goal. The home defence failed to fully clear their lines in the 34th minute, and when the ball was played back into the area, former Aston Villa striker Savo Milosevic was on hand to head the ball past Armando. The match didn’t remain level for long, as David Lopez put the visitors ahead from a direct free kick barely 90 seconds after Milosevic’s equaliser. It was hard to believe that the team had once again suffered such a turn around in a match that five minutes earlier they had seemed in control of. Then another major talking point occurred before half-time. Medina, who had a goal wrongly chalked off at Villareal a couple of weeks ago, seemed to win a penalty as he was felled by Ricardo. The referee didn’t see it that way though, and booked the Uruguayan for diving – a yellow card that later proved fatal. Then on the stroke of half-time, ref Turienzo Alvarez failed to show Delporte a second yellow card when it looked like he should have reduced the visitors to ten men.
