Not for the first time this season Cadiz dominated and came away with nothing in the Carranza. Esparrago made one change from the team that lost to Sevilla, with Argentinian Lucas Lobos making his first league start in place of Jonathan Sesma.

The home side started brightly, and looked to close down Osasuna quickly and hit them on the break. It didn’t take long for the tactic to work to the maximum as Cadiz broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. Benjamin fed Lobos who calmly fired past Ricardo to ease the tension around the ground. Cadiz didn’t sit back after their dream start, and although Osasuna had some possession in midfield they never threatened Armando’s goal in the first half an hour. Lobos was hungry for the ball and was involved in most of the attacking play, but unfortunately it was this seasons surprise package Osasuna who scored the next goal. The home defence failed to fully clear their lines in the 34th minute, and when the ball was played back into the area, former Aston Villa striker Savo Milosevic was on hand to head the ball past Armando. The match didn’t remain level for long, as David Lopez put the visitors ahead from a direct free kick barely 90 seconds after Milosevic’s equaliser. It was hard to believe that the team had once again suffered such a turn around in a match that five minutes earlier they had seemed in control of. Then another major talking point occurred before half-time. Medina, who had a goal wrongly chalked off at Villareal a couple of weeks ago, seemed to win a penalty as he was felled by Ricardo. The referee didn’t see it that way though, and booked the Uruguayan for diving – a yellow card that later proved fatal. Then on the stroke of half-time, ref Turienzo Alvarez failed to show Delporte a second yellow card when it looked like he should have reduced the visitors to ten men.

Esparrago brought on Pavoni at half time to try and take the game to Osasuna, and Cadiz started well. In the 53rd minute Estoyanoff used his lightening pace to break through the defence, but his shot struck the post with Ricardo beaten. It was then Medina’s turn to hold his head in his hands as he received the ball from Raul Lopez and saw his effort nick the post on the way through. It looked like it wasn’t going to be los amarillos day. Osasuna brought everyone back behind the ball, and Oli and Enrique were thrown on as Cadiz looked desperately for a deserved equaliser. Medina then picked up a second yellow card to leave ten man Cadiz facing an uphill struggle. As they continued to pile on the pressure, Raul Garcia chased down a seemingly lost cause and emerged with the ball, before sealing the points with a shot past Armando. 1-3 was harsh on the home side, but at least the performance was an improvement on last weeks hammering at home at the hands of Sevilla. Lobos is now starting to look like an exciting player but there will now be pressure on him to fill in as Medina starts his suspension.
