Some
strange team changes this week from Gracia. With Raul Lopez suspended after his
red card last week David Garcia replaces him with Mansilla returning at the
centre of defence. Fragoso moves up into midfield and in comes Fran Cortes with
Ormazabal and Caballero starting on the bench. On a very cold Castillian evening
los amarillos started strongly with plenty of possession and looking the more
dangerous team and the first good scoring opportunity fell to Cadiz in the 18th
minute when a kick out by Casilla was nodded on by Rubiato into the path of
Lopez Silva but his shot was just high of the mark. Another shot from Lopez
Silva with the outside of his foot flew wide of the mark and a Delgado header
was also too high but the best opportunity of the half fell to Rubiato who was
put through by Lopez Silva and with just the keeper to beat his effort hit the post and bounced away
to be cleared. Despite the greater possession the home team started to press
forward more before half time and Casilla had to be alert to drop onto a Gomez
header from a corner and then he was able to easily collect a tame shot from
Cristian, the Conquense forward. Enrique had a half chance that he was unable to
direct on goal and then Casilla was called to action again to collect a Juanjo
header and the teams headed in at half time all square at 0-0.
Although
Fleurquin had a shot that was deviated early in the second half it was the home
team who dominated the second half with Cadiz running out of ideas and looking
fragile at times in defence. It wasn't long until the pressure told and in the
56th minute a corner from the Cadiz left came across goal to the far post where
Javi Gomez raced in to powerfully head the ball home to make it 1-0. Thirteen
minutes later and the lead was doubled when the Cadiz right back, Cristian,
raced down the wing to try and build an attack for los amarillos, which broke
down and Conquense attacked at speed down into the now open right back position
forcing Mansilla to come across to cover but he was unable to stop a deep cross
to the back post coming over where Juanjo managed to get his head to the ball
that Casilla blocked but neither the Cadiz keeper or David Garcia were able to
stop Juanjo clipping the loose ball back across goal where the unmarked Cristian
was able to nod the ball home. With just 12 minutes left Gracia threw on
Caballero and Barreiro but there was no way back for los amarillos who suffered
there first league defeat of the season away from the Carranza and their third
defeat from three games against Conquense this year, a league double and a cup
defeat. Thankfully they should not meet this team again unless in any play offs
for promotion. With both Toedtli and Caballero out of the side Cadiz miss the
two players who can create real danger when attacking, otherwise they are pretty
bereft of ideas, whilst at the back they are still vulnerable to corners and
free kicks. They still hold a seven point lead over second placed Ejido but are
not creating the chances that they did at the start of the season when it seemed
that they could and would outscore the opposition and played with an almost
reckless abandon. They now look like a team which is getting bogged down with
tactics trying to be precise in everything they do, which is slowing them down
and inhibiting the natural attributes of the players. Hopefully this is just a
transitional period and the team will benefit in the long run from the change in
style.
