BACK TO FIXTURES & RESULTS PREVIOUS GAME NEXT GAME
Bezares and Fleurquin started in front of an unchanged back four, with Nano and Pablo on the wings. Acuña and Pavoni joined Sesma and Enrique on the bench with new boys Buades and Neru giving an impressive look to the squad. Tenerife seemed to be looking for three points, backing up Gonzalez’ insistence in the week that this would be a very difficult game. With their adventurous game plan, the visitors troubled Cadiz early on, although the yellows still managed an ambitious effort from Medina and a speculative freekick from distance from Lobos. In the 24th minute Iriome did well and crossed from the Tenerife right, but luckily Raul Sanchez snatched at the shot and the ball skied helplessly over. The next scare for the home side was the departure of Lucas Lobos, and early scans suggest he may be out for around six weeks. On the plus side Pavoni replaced Lobos and the Argentinean will be vital whilst Lobos is missing. With the game still in the balance, Vella got forward well and sparked claims for a penalty, but the referee adjudged the foul occurred outside the area. It was from another freekick, this time out on the left flank, that Cadiz opened the scoring. Nano’s deep cross to the far post found Cesar Caneda, who was desperately unlucky to see Bernardo make a superb low save from his header. Unfortunately for the keeper, as the ball bounced up between three Tenerife defenders Medina bravely dived in to head home the loose ball. Two in two for the Uruguayan who will hope he can now fire the goals to win promotion.
