BACK TO FIXTURES & RESULTS

The only change to this weeks starting line up from last week sees Erice
return after suspension with Abraham starting on the bench. With a new trainer
at Salamanca this week the home side started strongly looking to impress but it
was Cadiz who had the first effort at goal when Toedtli had a half chance after
just seven minutes but it came to nothing. Four minutes later however good play
between Nano and Ormazabal resulted in a pass through to Enrique who cut inside
and fired in a left foot shot into the back of the net to make it 0-1 to los
amarillos. Just after the twenty minute mark Casilla booted the ball against Alvaro Silva
and the ball looked to be heading into his
own net but the ball was just the wrong side of the post but a couple of minutes
later Cuellar crossed well and Linares headed home to make it all square. Cadiz
had another couple of good chances with Nano firing in a great left foot shot
and Alvaro Silva had a header cleared off the line but it was the home side who
had the better possession for the rest of the half without creating any more
chances.
After just four minutes of the second half Cifuentes picked up a second yellow
card and Cadiz were left with 10 men with virtually the whole of the second half
to play. Under the circumstances Esparrago put on Fragoso to try and help to
keep Salamanca at bay and to protect the level score. With numbers behind the
ball the home side were reduced to firing in shots from distance or relying on
dead ball situations to try and get the winner but Casilla was able to deal with
all that came his way. Cadiz did create some danger through Enrique, who seems
to have benefitted more than anyone from the arrival of Esparrago as he is at
last playing with confidence, causing defenders problems, creating chances and
scoring goals and he went down in the Salamanca box in the 69th minute claiming
a penalty but his pleas were waved away. Then ten minutes later Enrique fired in
a great shot that smashed into the post with the keeper looking beaten. At the
other end Quique Martin had a good effort in the 74th minute that Casilla had to
deal with and that was followed up by another effort from Toti that
clipped the bar but the score remained at 1-1 at the final whistle. Another good
point for Cadiz who are back at the Carranza next week looking for three points.
