Team
news this weeks sees some forced changes with both Paz and Raul Lopez sidelined
through knocks in come De Quintana and Gonzalo Vicente to take their places. In
midfield Parri starts instead of Bezares, who takes his place on the bench and
Miguel Garcia gets a long awaited start, whilst Casas also starts on the bench.
Joining Bezares and Casas on the sidelines are new signing Natalio and Yago Yao,
who has seemed to be out of favour at the club since the return of Antonio Munoz
as President.
This was not a particularly good game to watch with plenty of long balls and
free kicks and not a great deal of football. The first goal of the contest came
after just 13 minutes when Granada 74 won a corner from the right hand side. In
a well rehearsed game play they took a short corner and then Luque passed it
along the floor back to the edge of the area where Fagoaga was racing in and
fired in a right footed shot that managed to find its way through the crowded
box and past Contreras to make it one nil to the home team. Cadiz came back well
and pressed forward with Miguel Garcia forcing a good save out of Jaime, in the
Granada goal, from a direct free kick. Shortly afterwards it was Miguel Garcia
again who fired in a great right footed volley when the ball came out after a
corner to just outside the penalty area but his goal bound effort was well saved
by Jaime diving high to his right to turn the ball away for another corner. The
only other play of any note in the first half came when the ball was loose in
the Cadiz area and only some pretty desperate defending managed to keep the
score at 1-0 at the end of the first half.
At the
start of the second half Natalio, was introduced to the field for his Cadiz
debut. Just three minutes into the half and los amarillos were on level terms.
Parri took his umpteenth free kick and put the ball into the area near the
penalty spot where Dani was able to guide the ball home with his head. Cadiz
seemed to have the better of Granada and looked more comfortable going forward
and in defense than the home team. In the 66th minute it was Dani again who
latched onto a centre from the left by Miguel Garcia that he managed to hook
powerfully towards the goal but Jaime was on his toes and pulled off a good
save. It looked like last weeks display and result had knocked the confidence of
los amarillos and they started to sit back thankful to take a point away from
the game but this allowed Granada back into the contest and with just three
minutes left of normal time the ball was down near the bye line at the feet of
the home team right winger. He was being easily held up by Vicente, who was
being supported by Gustavo Lopez and the situation looked under control with
little danger. The winger attempted to cross the ball but it crashed into
Vicente from a yard away and bounced away for Lopez to collect it and clear the
danger. However the referee decided after a good several seconds that the ball
had cannoned into the hand of Vicente, despite his assistant not seeing anything
wrong from just yards away from the action, and he pointed to the spot. Up
stepped Luque to easily put the spot kick to Contreras' right and into the net
to make it 2-1 to the home team, taking all the points and leaving a very
unlucky Cadiz with nothing for their efforts.
