The
only change to the team that started last week against Salamanca sees Ormazabal
replace Carlos Caballero in the centre of midfield. In the Valencian rain los
amarillos started strongly despite having to wear new boots because their normal
ones had been lost in the flight back from the Las Palmas to Madrid during the
week. Once again most of the problems caused to the home defense came from Lopez
Silva playing down the left and connecting well with Cifuentes. Both Lopez Silva
and Enrique had chances to break the deadlock but neither could convert and it
was left to the home side to open the scoring in the 32nd minute when Casilla
failed to cut out a corner and Dani Carril headed home to make it 1-0 to Levante.
The score could have been doubled before half time but this time Casilla pulled
off a great save to keep Cadiz within touching distance.
Just
minutes into the second half Toedtli had a shot that was well parried by Reina,
the Levante keeper. Cadiz continued playing well and getting close to the home
box but the final ball was all too often underhit, overhit, too high or wide
that any chances created were only difficult half chances. However in the 69th
minute Cifuentes fired in a cross from the left to the back post where Enrique
came in and headed the ball home to make it all square. Although Lopez Silva
came close with another effort it was the home side who finished the stronger
with Guerra smashing the ball into the post and then Dani Fragoso pulled off a
last ditch sliding tackle to thwart another effort and thankfully for los
amarillos the referee blew for full time with the score at 1-1 to give Cadiz
their first point of the season.
Next up is the match against Cordoba, which kicks off in the Carranza at
18.00 on Saturday the 12th September.
