Plenty
of changes to the first side of 2010 caused mainly by suspensions. Cifuentes
moves over to right back to replace the suspended Cristian whilst Raul Lopez
starts at left back. In the centre of the back four Mansilla starts instead of
the suspended Alvaro Silva. Lopez Silva moves over to the right wing with
Enrique starting from the bench as he has been injured over the Christmas break
and has only just returned to full training and Jaume starts down the left wing.
Finally upfront Toedtli at last starts a game in place of the suspended Ogbeche.
From the first whistle this was a pretty scrappy game with the initial minutes
belonging to Cadiz due mainly to their ability to play the ball square across
the back but with two defensive midfielders in Erice and Ormazabal the attacking
play from los amarillos has to come from the wing men and the two forwards have
to get good service otherwise the system that Gracia is trying to play just will
not work. Regrettably the service into the box continues to be very poor and
because los amarillos like to play the ball square across the back four rarely
do they break at speed and they are just not looking dangerous going forward.
With the defensive line up the visitors never really looked that dangerous and
Casilla was rarely troubled although he didnīt look comfortable today and he
dropped one cross that was scrambled away and he flapped at a couple of other
crosses. At the other end Tristan was played in by Toedtli in a very dangerous
position and set himself up with just the keeper to beat but his effort from
just inside the box was blasted way into the fondo. Jaume also had a half chance
that he pulled across goal and then Toedtli bent down to nod a Lopez Silva cross
into the hands of the Nastic keeper. With time running down to half time
Ormazabal was dispossessed near the half way line and Nastic broke down the left
wing with plenty of Cadiz players back behind the ball and Erice shepherded
David Bauza towards the byeline just inside the Cadiz box but the Nastic player
managed to get a low cross to the near post of Cadiz with more Cadiz players in
attendance than Nastic but it looked as if it was Fernando Moran, the ex
Cadista, who managed to glance the ball into the back of the net to make it 0-1.
Just before the half ended Erice was extremely unlucky to be booked as it looked
as if he didnīt make any contact on the visiting player who lived up to his
teams name and went tumbling like a Gymnast but the half ended with los
amarillos behind.
The
second half was just four minutes old when Erice brought down Fachan and picked
up a second yellow and became the fourth Cadiz player to receive a red card in
the last four games. As if the task before Cadiz wasnīt tough enough the way
they were playing with eleven surely there was no way back for them now.
The game became even more scrappy and los amarillos were performing
poorly today with players all over the park losing the ball or playing poor
passes. Gracia threw on Abraham to bolster the midfield in a defensive role and
put on Cortes and Caballero, who appear to be the only two creative midfielders
in the Cadiz squad, and shortly after coming on Cortes powered forward and fired
in a great low shot that was well saved by Perez, diving to his right, although
none of the officials noticed the deviation on the ball and the referee awarded
a goal kick, which earned Lopez Silva a yellow card for protesting. The visitors
had a great chance to double their lead when Casilla booted the ball out and it
went straight to the Nastic number 7 who raced forward with just Casilla to beat
but the Cadiz keeper managed to get his body in the way of the effort and the
ball was cleared. Casilla was also called to action to tip a long dipping shot
over the bar to keep the deficit to just the one goal. With some ten
minutes still to play the visitors should have been reduced to ten men when
Fachan, who had already been booked, completely flattened Lopez Silva and should
have received a second yellow but the inconsistency of the referees continues as
only the free kick was awarded. In the final few minutes Mansilla was pushed up
to play as a forward and had a great chance to level when the ball came in from
the right and he was free at the far post. He had time to control the ball and
carefully aim his shot but his effort was high of the mark and so the game ended
with another defeat for Cadiz, who are looking like a team struggling with
confidence and who are now in the relegation zone. Next week los amarillos visit
high flying Real Sociedad who are leading the table at the present time.
