After two away wins out of the last 3 games hopes were high in the Carranza that Cadiz would continue their good form and finally score goals and a victory at home, especially against a lower team like Ponferradina.

Right from the outset los amarillos attacked with venom looking for that elusive goal at home that has been missing since the end of October, when Cadiz last scored at home in the 1-0 victory against Numancia. Indeed in the first minute of the game Raul Lopez put a good ball down the left, where Jonathan Sesma picked it up and put a great ball over to the far post but it was just too long. Most of the problems caused by Cadiz came through Enrique, Morán and Sesma, which resulted in a number of half chances, which fell mainly to the feet of Enrique. Unfortunately on each occasion they were unable to convert their superiority into a goal.

Things continued to go the home sides way when in the 17th minute the referee adjudged that the Ponferradina central defender, Bornes, warranted a second yellow card, giving Cadiz a one man advantage. Surely Cadiz could now open up the visiting team. On several occasions the wingers Sesma and Enrique were able to put in good crosses looking for the head of De Paula. In one centre from Vella to the far post De Paula and Paz both rose to try to finish but without success. The best chance of the first half fell to Enrique who firstly robbed a defender and played a one two with De Paula before firing towards goal where the keeper, Rubio, was able to easily save.

Just six minutes into the second half the numeric advantage that Cadiz had enjoyed for so long was nullified as the referee showed a second yellow card to Fleurquin, who was sent off for the second time this season. Suddenly the visitors confidence grew and they started attacking Armando’s goal looking to steal an unexpected victory but the Cadiz defence stood strong and Armando had very little to do. In an attempt to open up the Ponferradina defence Jose Gonzalez threw on Lobos and Sergio for Enrique and Moran and the best chance of the second half came after good play through the midfield allowed Miguel Garcia to put over a good cross, which was headed just wide by De Paula.

Despite all the possession los amarillos were unable to break the deadlock and in fact in the last few minutes of the game it was the visitors who looked the more likely to steal a victory. However for the fourth successive home game at the final whistle the score remained as it had started at 0-0.

Surely it is only a matter of time before Cadiz turn their home superiority into victories and start their push for promotion in the second half of the season.
