Cadiz recorded a much needed away win to
follow on from their triumph in Xerez to further close the gap on the teams
currently occupying the promotion places. Cesar Caneda partnered Paz in the
heart of the defence with Fleurquin and Garcia continuing their impressive
holding partnership in midfield. Medina replaced De Paula up front.
Cadiz started brightly against a team
who despite struggling this year challenged for promotion last year. Enrique
combined well with Medina for the games first half chance with no end product,
and the Uruguayan himself had a header well saved after good work from Vella
down the right. Lorca hit back with several attacks down the wings, with Issac
and Javi Rodriguez particularly impressive, but thankfully for the visitors
striker Gorka de Carlos failed to convert any of the chances. With Cadiz
starting to find themselves pushed back, they actually took the lead after a
fine inswinging freekick from Miguel Garcia found Fleurquin who glanced the ball
past the onrushing keeper. A fine end to the first half.
The second half started with neither
manager making any changes, and within 5 minutes of the restart Lorca were
level. Goal scorer Fleurquin went from hero to villain as he was adjudged to
have fouled ex-Cadiz player Ivan Ania from behind in the box, and Ramos sent
Armando the wrong way with his tidy penalty into the bottom left corner. The
home fans joy was short lived however, as Miguel Garcias low corner was only
cleared back to him, and at the second time of asking he curled in a superb
cross with the outside of his left foot to the unmarked Paz to head home from 6
yards. The woeful home marking means that centre back Paz is now the clubs
leading scorer this year, a superb achievement even taking into account a couple
of penalties included in the tally. Gonzalez tried to shore up the defence by
bringing on Moran and De Quintana for Lobos and Vella, but even so Cadiz still
had chances to stretch the lead with chances for the two subs and Garcia. With
the game still locked at 2-1 Lorca increased the pressure but Cadiz held on for
a vital 3 points.
Although Valladolid won and stretched their lead
at the top to 5 points, Xerez again lost at home and Cadiz are now only 4 points
off the promotion places. A home win against Ponferradina on Wednesday night and
Cadiz will be in a healthy position going into the winter break after their
indifferent start.
