The
only team change this week sees Nano start down the left with Lopez Silva moving
over to the right side to replace the suspended Enrique after he collected his
red card last week. In front of another good crowd in the Carranza in fine voice
los amarillos started the game strongly and powered forward at every
opportunity. The first clear chance came from a good passage of play and some
excellent movement from the forward players with Tristan playing the ball to
Ogbeche who ran into the space created by a run across the box by Lopez Silva,
which gave the Nigerian the chance to show his pace and let fly with a goalbound
shot that was just deflected wide by a defenders lunge making the ball smash
into the side netting. Moments later and Lopez Silva came in from the right and
tried to curl a left foot shot in but the effort was high and wide of the mark.
Another good ball in from the right was almost met by Ogbeche and that was
followed in the twentieth minute by yet another break down the right with
Ormazabal slipping the ball forward for the Cadiz right back, Cristian, to run
onto and fire in a good shot that Assmann, the Las Palmas keeper did well to
parry away. Cadiz then had a number of corners in quick succession and from the
first from the left Ormazabal raced into the box to leap well and head the ball
on target but again Assmann managed to tip the ball over, this was immediately
followed by another Nano corner that Ogbeche headed towards goal but the keeper
was in the right place again and the ball bounced free before being cleared. A
couple of minutes later just after the half hour mark and the third corner from
the left came across and Ogbeche jumped with the keeper and the ball ran free,
the Nigerian reacted quickly and stuck a toe out but the ball was cleared off
the line by a defender and the ball rebounded back to Assmann, who after
collecting the ball was forced off through injury. Regrettably Cadiz were unable
to test the replacement keeper during the rest of the half despite creating some
dangerous plays down the flanks especially down the left but Nano´s crossing of
a moving ball was quite diabolical today and time and again the move broke down
because of the poor service into the real danger area and so the half ended 0-0.
The
second half was quite different and it was the visitors who started looking
dangerous as they attacked at pace and just a couple of minutes into the
half a Las Palmas was played through the centre with just Casilla ahead of
him but the Cadiz keeper was smartly off his line and managed to block any
effort but the ball ran free to the left where another attacker collected it and
with the goal completely opened he shot towards the empty net but a last ditch
dive by Alvaro Silva saw the ball crash against the defender and go behind for a
corner. Then it was the turn of Cadiz when the ball was played out to the right
where Lopez Silva turned a defender and fired in a shot that was actually just
tipped wide by Pindado, the replacement keeper, although neither of the
officials noticed his save and a goal kick was awarded to the visitors. then the
clearest chance for the visitors as Alvaro Silva tried to step up and play
offside but in fact left a forward completely free bearing down on the Cadiz box
with just Casilla to beat but the Las Palmas player pushed the ball just too
far, which allowed Casilla the time to close him down and the ball bounced back
against the attacker and went behind for a goal kick to Cadiz. At the other end
Fragoso attempted to curl a free kick over the wall from 20 odd yards out but
although his effort cleared the wall it was also agonisingly too high of the
bar. In the 65th minute Nano jumped for a ball with the Las Palmas centre back
with both of them missing the ball but the defender collapsing to the floor
clutching his head. Neither of the officials seemed to indicate a foul but, it
appeared, that the referee made a decision based on the injury to the Las Palmas
defender and showed Nano a straight red card reducing Cadiz to ten men with
still almost a third of the match to play. Despite being a man down los
amarillos continued to attack, although on several occasions a poor final ball
brought a dangerous move to a premature ending and in fact Pindado was not
tested again. At the other end Casilla was also a virtual spectator until the
final whistle went and the game petered out to a 0-0 draw.
