GAME
After
last weeks success with the changed formation Gracia makes only the one change
with Lopez Silva returning after suspension to take the place of Nano. Against
high flying Elche, who stood in fourth place in the table coming into this
weekends matches, Cadiz could not have had a worse start when after just nine
minutes had elapsed Enrique blatantly trod on Carleto and earned himself a straight red
card reducing los amarillos to ten men for virtually the whole game. Immediately
Ogbeche moved out to cover the wing position leaving Diego Tristan alone up
front but it was backs to the wall for Cadiz during the rest of the half with
defending their goal being the priority. With a mixture of solid defending from
Cadiz and some lacklustre attacking from the home team, Casilla, in the Cadiz
goal, was rarely called to action. At the other end apart from a couple of
efforts from distance from Ogbeche and Tristan that were easily dealt with Cadiz
didnīt look like scoring and by half time with the score at 0-0 Gracia would
gladly have taken that as the final score and to walk away with a point.
It
was all change in the second half when just four minutes in Samuel picked up a
second yellow reducing Elche to ten men as well and so with the teams now
numerically equal the game was sure to open up. Regrettably for Cadiz it was the
home team who finally struck just three minutes after going down to ten men when
Navarro centred and Molina was able to beat Fragoso by back-heeling the ball and the ball slipped under
Casilla, who looked rooted to the spot, to make it 1-0. The lead was almost
doubled minutes later when Saul fired in a shot that was just outside of
the Cadiz post. In the 65th minute it was all square when a cross by Cristian
was controlled well by Tristan and he lobbed the ball over Willy, the Elche
keeper, to make it all square. The goal put some life back into the Cadiz
players and they started to take some control of the game and were looking the
more likely to score but despite the greater possession they were unable to eke
out any clear chances. With just two minutes to go Arriaga was through and in a
good position to score and to give victory to Cadiz but he was unable to connect
properly and the chance went begging. In time added on Acciari picked up his
second yellow and so the home team were down to nine players but there was no
time left for los amarillos to take advantage of the extra man and at the final
whistle they were happy to walk away with the point after a 1-1 draw.
