Team
news this week sees Cristian return to right back with Vella on the bench,
Caneda returns to partner Paz at the heart of defence replacing the injured De
La Cuesta, whilst Raul Lopez returns to action after his long injury absence
starting his first full game replacing the suspended Gonzalo Vicente. The only
change in midfield sees Diego Rivas return after suspension to replace Bezares
who drops to the bench, whilst up front Dani starts replacing the suspended
Casas.
Right from the kick off Cadiz dominated the play, closing down
the opposition quickly and not allowing the greens from Racing Ferrol any time
to settle on the ball and when Cadiz were in possession the passing and running
off the ball was swift and sleek.
It wasn't long before the dominance paid dividends and it came in the sixth
minute when Cristian raced onto a ball down the right and fired in a looping
shot from all of 25 yards that was a goal from the second that the ball left his
boot and so it was that Cadiz were 1-0 up and cruising. They continued in this
vane and in the 16th minute after good work by Paz from a free kick the ball was
at the feet of Nano just yards from goal with only the keeper in front of him
but his effort, which he had to take quickly, smashed against the bar and
bounded away to safety. Shortly after it was the turn of Fleurquin to try and
increase the lead but his effort from distance was high and wide. Suddenly the
game went a bit flat after that with neither side getting any good moves going,
although it was still Cadiz who looked more dangerous going forward with
Fleurquin, Nano and Enrique all trying to score but their efforts were either
off target or were easily dealt with by the keeper, meanwhile Contreras was a
virtual spectator in the Cadiz goal and the first half ended with Cadiz still
one up.
Shortly
after the start of the second half Calderon was forced to change the set up when
Diego Rivas had to go off injured to be replaced by Pavoni and for a time this
seemed to unsettle Cadiz with the visitors getting forward more and soon a cross
from the right went over the yellow defence to the back post where two Racing
Ferrol players were lurking and it was Lamatina who got in a really powerful
header from short distance that Contreras had to fly to his left to palm the
ball away from goal and keep the score at 1-0. Half way through the half and
Cadiz were another goal to the good when good play down the left saw Nano put in
a great centre where Enrique bravely dived to head powerfully past Pina to make
it 2-0 and it looked as if the three points were now in the bag. However just
afterwards Nano also had to go off injured to be replaced with one of the fans
favourites Bezares, who you can always rely on to give 100%. In the 73rd minute,
with Cadiz coasting to victory, Contreras made a terrible decision to race out
to try and punch a ball away, when Paz was well placed to deal with the danger,
and he only managed to palm the ball away a few yards and in the process clatter
heavily into his centre back, taking both himself and Paz out of the game with
the ball at the feet of Jaime, who calmly slotted the ball past a despairing
Caneda, who was trying to defend the goal line. So suddenly from nowhere the
visitors were back in the game at 2-1 but los amarillos didn't panic and again
took full control of the game, with B team player, Bienve, making his debut for
the first team when Calderon sent him on for Lobos with just ten minutes left of
the game. He got a few touches during his time on the pitch and looked
comfortable on the ball and looks to be a good prospect and sure to get more
minutes in the first team in the very near future.
With just minutes left good play down the right saw Enrique
racing with the left back to get to the ball first, he controlled it quickly and
took another touch to get the wrong side of the defender before pulling the ball
back to the edge of the box where Dani collected it. He shimmied to the right
finding enough space to unload a good shot into the bottom left corner of the
goal to finally make the game safe at 3-1.
For most of the game this was another strong performance by los
amarillos, although there were a few lapses of concentration that could have
been punished but if they continue playing the way they are, relying on the
experience of the past regular players at the core of the team, such as Paz,
Caneda and De La Cuesta, Raul Lopez, Fleurquin, Bezares and Enrique there is no
reason why the team cannot start climbing the table and still be in with a shout
of challenging for promotion at the end of the season.
