Club captain Abraham Paz made a miraculous recovery from injury to return to the defence, with Cesar Caneda shifting across to right back, meaning Vella returned to the bench. Fleurquin and Miguel Garcia played in front of the back four with Sesma, Moran and Lobos supporting De Paula up front. The game started at a fast pace, and in the opening ten minutes the match appeared as if it would go to form, with league leaders Xerez having the better of the play and Cadiz having to defend. Luque was enjoying a lot of the ball in midfield and from there Xerez tried to play the ball wide and get crosses into Yordi. After 11 Minutes Xerez made the breakthrough. Camuņas broke free down the right and drilled a low testing cross between Armando and the onrushing forwards. Armando blocked the first effort but the ball sat for Yordi to smash the ball into the roof of the empty net to the delight of the home fans. The goal was an early set back for Los Amarillos and Xerez threatened to go further ahead. Camuņas was again involved minutes later, when a well worked freekick found the winger unmarked 6 yards out, but as Armando clattered into him he could only watch his header bounce off the bar. That seemed to be a turning point in the game, as few inside the stadium would have predicted the correct final score at that stage. After defending a number of corners themselves, Cadiz started to exert some pressure by winning some of their own. One fine piece of work from Lobos down the left allowed him to find Caneda, but both his header and follow up volley were blocked. With the game heading towards half time Cadiz won a free kick about 40 yards out. Lobos drifted a ball towards the penalty spot that was inadvertently flicked on by Francis to the unmarked Paz, who made no mistake in levelling the scores in the same goal that he scored a penalty in to clinch promotion 16 months ago. Xerez battled to restore their lead before half time but Cadiz went in as the far happier team after their equalizer. The second half was like a different match with Fleurquin and Garcia excelling in midfield and breaking up the majority of moves before Xerez could get near the Cadiz goal. It was the visitors who took the lead in the 50th minute. Once again the impressive Fleurquin won the ball down the right and fed Lobos, who slipped in the Uruguayan who had continued his run down the line. His centre narrowly missed the sliding De Paula, but the ball flicked up for Sesma to smash the ball home on the volley at the far post. With a nervy 40 minutes expected, the game was effectively over after an hour. First Bajic was lucky to escape with a yellow card when catching De Paula with a flailing arm right in front of both benches and the linesman. With tempers flaring Lobos waited to cross in the resulting free-kick, but Yordi floored Fleurqin in the box. The referee saw the offence but sent off the defender, David Prieto in a case of mistaken identity and awarded Cadiz a penalty. The match was then held up for at least five minutes as the referee attempted to restore order as the benches and subs also became involved in the furore. With Abraham Paz already on the score sheet and more than capable from 12 yards, it showed great composure for Lobos to smash the ball into the top corner after the hold up. To their credit Xerez still didnt fold, and it took a smart save from Armando from Luque in the 66th minute to keep the two goal lead. That was turned into a three goal cushion 5 minutes later, when Sesma raced free down the left and crossed for sub Vella to finish at the second time of asking. Jonathan Sesma was one of the main reasons Cadiz won promotion in 2005 and the winger showed similar form in El Chapin. With goal scoring being a problem in recent weeks, its vital that the pacey left footer can continue this kind of form until the end of the season in another push for promotion. The last 20 minutes was mainly a passing exercise for the away team, with the impressive thousand or so cadistas in the Fondo Norte cheering every pass whilst doing Mexican waves and singing Jingle Bells amongst other songs. The delight amongst the team and bench was clear after the game, and they came and thanked their loyal fans after the whistle, with a number of players throwing their shirts into the crowd. With Jose Gonzalez still unbeaten after four games, and Cadiz only seven points off the promotion places despite their indifferent start, a home win to new league leaders Valladolid on Sunday will prove the corner has been turned and relight pre-season dreams of a quick return to the Primera Liga.
