Cadiz slipped to a second consecutive league defeat in a scrappy game away at Deportivo. Only 15,000 fans were in the Riazor for the encounter in which Esparrago bought in Mario Silva for Raul Lopez at left back. The match started brightly for both teams, with Tristans shot from distance towards goal for Depor, and De La Cuesta heading weakly goalwards when unmarked in the box. Depor then started to exert pressure on the Cadiz goal, and injuries to Ivan Ania and De La Cuesta didn’t help the Cadiz cause. Armando saved well from Juanma’s header, then from Munitis, and most spectacularly in the 40th minute from Andrade, when the home crowd were already celebrating a goal. The Amarillos were certainly pleased to hear the half time whistle, and had their keeper to thank as the teams went in 0-0.

The onslaught continued as soon as the second half started, and even before Tristans 49th minute goal, Armando had already saved a header from Capdevilla. Then Valeron won the ball in midfield, his excellent distribution sent through Tristan, who was kept onside by a sluggish De Quintana. He made no mistake in finishing and gave Armando no chance. The goal didn’t come as a surprise but the Cadiz response was encouraging, as they started to keep better possession. Not long after the goal they played a nice move which ended with Varela sending a shot narrowly wide to give the 100 or so travelling fans a glimmer of hope. Then sub Sesma and Oli combined brilliantly to test Molina seriously for the first time in the match. Estoyanoff also went close as Cadiz went in search of an equalizer. It wasn’t to be though, and although Cadiz have played better in other games this season, with a bit of luck they could have nicked a vital draw from a top team. With Barcelona next up, and the team falling nearer to the relegation zone, a bit of luck would be the ideal Christmas present for the Cadistas as the team look to remain in La Liga for another season.
