The first starting line up in this seasons Segunda A challenge saw Casilla in goal, new signing Alvaro Silva joining Fragoso in the heart of the defence and Cristian continuing at right back with Cifuentes at left back. Across the middle Enrique was on the right, Lopez Silva on the left and across the middle were, new signing Abraham, Caballero and Jon Erice, whilst, unsurprisingly, upfrong was Toedtli. With a 9,000 strong crowd inside a blistering Carranza the game kicked off at 17.00 with Cadiz dominating from the start with the visitors looking happy to get numbers behind the ball, playing very deep and looking for the quick break. This meant that los amarillos had plenty of the ball with Lopez Silva and Cifuentes combining well down the left and the little left winger causing all sorts of problems for the Salamanca defence and on three occasions he managed to wriggle free into the box by the bye line but the final ball across just would not go to a Cadiz player. Although on one of these forays his cross was pushed out by Ribas, the Salamanca keeper, and Caballero following in fired a shot goalwards but his effort was well blocked by a defender. In the 20th minute the ball came out from a corner to Cifuentes some 30 yards out, he ran forward five yards before launching a great right foot shot that was arrowing straight for the top corner but Ribas just managed to get fingertips to the ball that was enough to divert the ball onto the bar and behind for a corner. In the 41st minute it was Cadiz again who hit the crossbar when a corner from the left was finally headed to the far post where Toedtli leaped and back headed the ball onto the bar and it looked as if it was just going to be one of those days for Cadiz. Casilla was a virtual spectator but when he was called to action he seemed a little nervous and indecisive, whilst the normally strong relationship between Cristian and, captain for the day, Enrique, was producing absolutely nothing and the first half ended as it had started at 0-0.

The second half was much the same, although Cadiz were not dominating quite as much and on occasions it looked as if a bit of desperation was affecting los amarillos and they did allow the visitors a few chances to break, the most dangerous of which saw Cristian hooking the ball just wide of the goal to thwart an inrushing Salamanaca forward, but the back four held strong and the game did have a 0-0 result written all over it with neither keeper being called to action. However the tide turned with half an hour still to play when the young Nigerian, Akinsola, was sent on as sub for the visitors. Within ten minutes of coming on the ball was played long to the right of the Cadiz box and the Nigerian raced to it and fired in a great right foot volley that flew inches over the bar and onto the top of the net. Shortly afterwards Cadiz won a free kick just outside the Salamanca box and from eighteen yards out Caballero curled a smashing free kick over the wall but the effort went agonisingly the wrong side of the post with Ribas looking beaten. Gracia made changes to try and force a result firstly Velasco went on for the lacklustre and ineffectual Enrique, then Ormazabal went on for Caballero and finally Tristan came on with just 10 minutes left for Abraham. But with just 9 minutes left the only goal of the game was to come from Akinsola who picked up the ball to the left of the Cadiz area and managed to out pace Cristian in the area before firing in a left foot shot from a very narrow angle that beat Casilla at the near post before bouncing in to the goal off the far post. Despite throwing everything forward Cadiz were not able to break through the defensive wall set out by the visitors, although Lopez Silva fired well over from a tight angle when played in, and the match ended disappointingly with Cadiz unable to pick up anything from a game that they certainly deserved to get something from.
