GAME
In the first game of
the season in front of a packed Carranza, both teams started strongly with
Granada forcing two early corners that were well dealt with by the Cadiz defense
and from Cadiz a good play between Lucas Lobos and Dani was only halted by some
good work by the visiting defenders. The first quarter of the game saw Cadiz
trying to exploit the mobility of Dani up front and Enriques speed on the right,
whilst the visitors looked to control the ball more effectively in the centre of
the park and break down the flanks. Gradually los amarillos started to take
control and cause more problems for the visitors and after half an hour a super
pass from Bezares to Casas enabled the Argentinian front man to shoot goalwards
only to see his effort fly just wide. A few minutes later a good cross by
Fleurquin was met by De La Cuesta on the edge of the area but his effort was
deviated wide. The pressure continued from the home side and the next play saw
great work from Enrique on the right resulting in his cross falling between the
keeper and the defenders leaving Lobos to react first and slot the ball home but
the referee saw an offence by Casas and ruled the goal out.
At
the start of the second half a couple of lapses in the Cadiz defense gave
Granada opportunities to open the scoring but on both occasions the ball
thankfully went to the hands of Contreras. Cadiz immediately rallied and pushed
upfield with the ball again going to the ever impressive Enrique, who put in
another dangerous cross that caused all sorts of problems to the Granada defense
with the ball finally running loose to Lucas Lobos, who skillfully curled the
ball into the net to make it 1-0 to los amarillos. Cadiz continued pushing
forward and created several chances to increase the scoreline but without
success. Then in the 73rd minute Granada suddenly caused all sorts of problems
to the Cadiz defense with desperate tackling and blocking from firstly Yago and
then Caneda, with a little help from Contreras keeping the visitors at bay.
Shortly afterwards the reds won a couple of direct free kicks just outside the
area that Contreras had to work hard to keep out. Pavoni then came on and
almost immediately was involved in a good play with Enrique that saw his cross
fired goalwards by Dani only for a defender to clear off the line. With just
seconds left Cadiz got the second goal that their overall play deserved when a
good pass out of defense by Caneda went over the Granada defense for Enrique to
race on to and slot the ball past Jaime in the Granada goal.
