Cadiz suffered a home defeat against bottom team Mallorca in unfortunate circumstances in the Carranza. Esparrago started with the eleven players that look to be his favoured starters, as Cadiz looked to put further distance between themselves and the drop zone.

The match started scrappily, and it was poor play on behalf of the visitors rather than special play from Cadiz that lead to the opening goal in the 8th minute. A cross field ball from De Quintana towards Enrique caused confusion and hesitation between the defence and keeper, and Enrique nipped in to fire the ball into the back of the net to get Cadiz off to the best start possible. It was then the home sides turn to gift a goal, and as a high ball headed towards Raul Lopez, he and De Quintana got in a muddle allowing Doni to feed Victor who scored an unstoppable goal. As both teams struggled to find any rhythm, Cadiz were boosted when Pereyra was sent off for two strong challenges ten minutes before half time. As the half time whistle sounded neither team came off the pitch happy with their performance.

As the teams came back out for the second half, Mallorca lined up with two solid lines of four, and the away team stayed just outside their penalty box for the second half as they looked to earn a point. Cadiz had nearly all of the possession, And they carved out the first chance of the half for Oli, but his header skimmed the outside of the post. Unfortunately despite the majority of the possession, the home team weren’t playing well, and as the game went on with out a winning goal, Mallorca’s best player, Arango, fired a fantastic shot past Armando to put the visitors 1-2 up with less than ten minutes left. Sub Estayonoff had a chance to equalise in the 89th minute, but Prats saves well with his feet.

The match was a both a disappointing spectacle and result, and results such as these may come back to haunt Cadiz when the league finishes next May.
