Season 2007/08 info click here

22nd June 2009

The domestic football season in Spain has now finished and the teams promoted from the Segunda B are Cadiz, Cartagena, Real Union and Villareal B. We will now be setting the site up ready for the pre-season and be reporting on the squad being put together for the next campaign and bring you information about the Trofeo de Carranza, season tickets and the local friendlies.

Xerez have finally finished up as champions of the Segunda A, so congratulations once again to the team and their supporters and we wish them well in the Primera Liga.

19th June 2009

We will shortly begin the countdown to the new season with news of all the comings and goings to the squad put together to play in the Segunda A. The first game of the next season will take place in the last week of August.

Congratulations also to Xerez, who have gained promotion to the Primera Liga and we look forward to meeting them again in the top flight soon.

6th June 2009

Cadiz 1-1 Cartagena - Los amarillos opened the scoring through Rubiato after little more than 30 minutes but the visitors equalised before half time to make it 1-1, which, astonishingly in such a free flowing game, was how the match ended. This means that Cadiz win 3-2 on aggregate and are crowned as the first champion of champions of the Segunda B, as following the change in the promotion system this season, this is the inaugural champion of champions. Read match report here.

31st May 2009

Cartagena 1-2 Cadiz - In the first play off match to see who will be crowned the champion of champions of the Segunda B, Cadiz visited Cartagena and went two up in the first half thanks to two goals from Rubiato. The home side were awarded a penalty half way through the second half, that also earned Fragoso a rather harsh red card, which they converted to make the final score 1-2. Read match report here.

25th May 2009

Now that Cadiz have won promotion there are two further games to be played to see who are the champion of champions of the Segunda B. This means that the two promoted champions of the groups, Cadiz and Cartagena, will now play each other home and away for that title. The first match is being played next Sunday, 31st May 2009 when Cadiz visit Cartagena.

24th May 2009

Real Union 0-0 Cadiz - A really hard fought contest at the Stadium Gal, in dreadful conditions in the second half with plenty of surface water after the heavens opened shortly after the start of the second half, saw Cadiz manage to get the draw that they needed to see them run out victors in their two game playoff for promotion against the very tough Real Union. So it is back to the Segunda A next season after just the one season in the lower division. Read match report here.

24th May 2009

Some great news for all cadistas around the world. You will all be able to see the big match tonight when Cadiz travel to Irun for the second leg of their promotion playoff clash against Real Union. The match kicks off at 19.00 (18.00 gmt) and will be shown via www.cadizcf.com, thanks to Canal Sur, so just log in at that time and see los amarillos, hopefully, gain promotion back to the Segunda A.

17th May 2009

Cadiz 1-0 Real Union - This was a good result against a tough opponent in the first leg of the promotion fase in front of the largest crowd of the year in the Carranza. Los amarillos got off to the best possible start when Toedtli nodded home after just 10 minutes and it looked as if it could be better when the visitors were reduced to 10 men after 55 minutes and 9 men with six minutes still left but Cadiz were unable to capitalise on the numerical advantages and so take a slender lead to the Stadium Gal next week. Read match report here.

12th May 2009

In the first promotion phase between the four Segunda B group winners Cadiz have been drawn against Real Union. The first leg is at the Carranza this Sunday, 17th May 2009 kicking off at 21.00, with the second leg the following week at the Stadium Gal on Sunday , 24th May 2009 kicking off at 19.00.

10th May 2009

Guadalajara 1-2 Cadiz - In the final league match of the season and the championship all tied up Garcia played a large number of the players who have not been regulars this year, plus a few from the B team. Despite this los amarillos started strongly and were soon ahead when Rubiato blasted home in the 24th minute and their lead was doubled on the stroke of half time when Alvaro scored. the home team were awarded a penalty in the second half, which was converted but Cadiz ran out 1-2 winners. Read match report here.

3rd May 2009

Cadiz 1-2 Linense - Regrettably the last home league game of the season was ruined by another dubious refereeing display when Fragoso was shown a straight red after just 12 minutes when he was adjudged to have brought down a Linense forward in the area giving away a penalty which was converted to make it 0-1. The score was doubled at the start of the second half before Caballero was awarded a penalty eighteen minutes from time that he converted to make it 1-2. Toedtli looked to have scored a great equaliser in the final minute of normal time but the referee decided that he had handled the ball when he chested it down before firing home and the goal was ruled out. Read match report here.

29th April 2009

For the last league home game of the season kicking off on Sunday 3rd May at 18.00 the seat prices have been reduced. Adult seats in the Tribuna are €22 (youngsters €8); the Preferencia prices are €15 (youngsters €6) and Fondo prices are €12 (youngsters €6). Tickets are available Thursday and Saturday from 10.00 until 13.30 and from 17.30 until 19.45 and on Sunday from 10.00 until kick off time. The ticket office is closed on Friday 1st May for the Bank Holiday.

26th April 2009

Real Jaen 0-1 Cadiz - In a hard fought contest Cadiz came out the victors thanks to a first half Rubiato goal, which means that los amarillos are definitely the division champions with two chances to gain promotion back to the Segunda A. Read match report here.

25th April 2009

It has just been announced that the top of the table clash tomorrow between Real Jaen and Cadiz is being televised by Onda Cadiz TV, which means that you should be able to see it if you log into their web site www.ondacadiz.es. Kick off is at 18.00.

19th April 2009

Cadiz 1-0 Ejido - A good victory tonight for los amarillos, with the enforced changes after the red cards last week, saw Cadiz take all three points thanks to a Juanma strike in the 20th minute. This leaves them six points clear of Real Jaen, who they visit next week, with just three games left and so a victory next week will see Cadiz crowned as champions and with two chances of promotion back to the Segunda A and even a draw will almost certainly give them the title because of their greater goal difference. Read match report here.

11th April 2009

Marbella 2-1 Cadiz - A disastrous trip to the Costa del Sol for los amarillos. After starting superbly by going  0-1 up within 7 minutes thanks to a Caballero goal from a free kick, just eight minutes later and Cadiz were down to 10 men when the referee showed a straight red to Delgado. Marbella equalised ten minutes before half time and finally got the winner in the 86th minute. That however was not the end of the story as the referee appeared to show red cards after the final whistle to both Fleurquin and Caballero, if that is indeed the case there will be three regulars sidelined next week through suspension. Read match report here.

4th April 2009

Ecija 1-1 Cadiz - After a strong first half that saw los amarillos go in 0-1 up at half time thanks to an Ormazabal goal, Cadiz allowed the home side back into the game in the second half by playing very defensively in the second half. The ploy almost worked but in the final minute of time added on Casilla was beaten by a cross shot from Amarilla. Read match report here.

29th March 2009

Cadiz 1-1 Real Betis B - Despite dominating virtually the whole match Cadiz could only come away with the one point tonight, although it will be a couple of refereeing decisions that will be the main talking point tonight. After going one up in the first half thanks to a Juanma strike Cadiz continued pressing in the second half and a great piece of skill from Lopez Silva saw him lob a defender and then run around him into the box before he was pulled back but the referee decided that the offence was outside the box. At the other end Casilla came off his line to dive at the feet of an attacker and clearly pushed the ball away before the forward fell over him but this time the referee decided it was a foul and gave the penalty, which was converted to make the score 1-1. Read match report here.

25th March 2009

Antequera 0-1 Cadiz - A great night for Cadiz, not only because they took all three points at Antequera thanks to a header from Toedtli ten minutes into the second half but also because both the second and third teams in the league dropped points, Jaen lost and Ejido drew tonight. Read match report here.

21st March 2009

Cadiz 2-3 Granada - It appeared today as if not only were los amarillos playing Granada but also the referee!! Against the visitors they did pretty well creating plenty of chances, which they were either unable to convert or the Granada keeper pulled off great saves however the decisions of the referee directly provided the visitors with two of their goals, he waved away the protests of Casilla who claimed that he had been fouled for the third and he ruled out a Cadiz goal after appearing to award it. The first goal came from a penalty when Fragoso was adjudged to have committed a foul that nobody else saw and certainly no Granada player appealed for. The second came when Caballero was adjudged to have committed a foul just outside the box although he clearly won the ball and again no Granada player appealed. The free kick was taken quickly with the Cadiz players still asleep and Lafuente fired the ball home to make it 0-2. A third to the visitors came from a scramble in the goal mouth after Casilla had flapped at a corner and only just managed to tip the ball in front of goal. Cadiz came back through a goal from Barreiro and a penalty from Toedtli in the final minute of extra time to leave the result a very disappointing 2-3. Read match report here.

18th March 2009

This weeks match at the Carranza against Granada is being televised by Canal Sur 2 and is therefore being played on Saturday 21st March 2009, kicking off at 16.30.

15th March 2009

Lucena 1-2 Cadiz - After going behind in the 55th minute los amarillos came back to take all three points thanks to an equaliser from Ormazabal and the winner from Toedtli just three minutes from time. Read match report here.

8th March 2009

Cadiz 1-1 Puertollano - This was always going to be a tough match against the team who are fourth in the table and so it was. Los amarillos went one ahead in the first half thanks to a Fragoso header but the visitors equalised half way through the second half to take a share of the points in a pretty dour match. Read match report here.

1st March 2009

Ceuta 1-2 Cadiz - A great result tonight in a tough contest in North Africa saw los amarillos come back from a goal down to take all three points thanks to two second half goals from Lopez Silva and Enrique. Read match report here.

23rd February 2009

Apologies to anybody who has been trying to contact us as we have just found out that the email ceased to work when changing over to a new server recently. This has now been corrected and the email dan@cadizfc.net is now working again.

21st February 2009

Cadiz 2-0 Linares - It's Carnaval time in Cadiz and it was certainly a great carnival atmosphere in the Carranza today with plenty of the cadistas in fancy dress and some great moments of singing, standing, waving and clapping amongst the fondo's, preferencia and the tribuna. In fact the atmosphere was the real winner today as the match was not all that great but los amarillos added the cherry to the cake by scoring two headed goals, the first from Fleurquin a few minutes before half time and the second from Ormazabal just five minutes from time, to come away with a 2-0 victory and another three points. Read match report here.

15th February 2009

Melilla 3-1 Cadiz - With a howling wind and on a poor playing surface Cadiz went down 3-1 against Melilla, in what was always going to be a difficult encounter. Los amarillos were 2-0 down within the first quarter of an hour and were reduced to 10 men when Casilla was shown a straight red in the 63rd minute but within a couple of minutes of that they were back in the game when Toedtli again scored to make it 2-1. However the home team snatched a third in the 88th minute and then replacement keeper, Dani, was forced to save a penalty in the final seconds of the game after Raul Lopez was adjudged to have fouled in the box and was also shown a red card. Next weekend is Carnaval and so the match against Linares is on Saturday at 18.00. Read match report here.

8th February 2009

Cadiz 6-2 San Fernando - What a super game of football. Los amarillos completely dominated their local rivals and took all three points in a truly swashbuckling manner playing some great attacking football. With goals in the first half from Toedtli, Ormazabal and Enrique plus another three in the second half from Rubiato and two from Rosu, against the visitors one goal in each half the final score was 6-2. Read match report here.

1st February 2009

Conquense 2-0 Cadiz - A couple of unusual team changes this week for the match against Conquense but it was to no avail as the home team scored twice in the second half to take all three points, in the process inflicting the first away defeat for Cadiz and also completing the double over los amarillos. Read match report here.

30th January 2009

A pretty hectic day with the transfer window closing in a couple of days. First came news that De la Cuesta was going to have another operation to try and resolve his persistent injury problems, which will keep him out until the end of May at the earliest. As a result Cadiz have signed another defender, Daniel Cifuentes Alfaro, known as Cifu, who was born in Madrid on the 13th July 1980 and is a right back. He started his playing career in the youth teams of Real Madrid but started his professional career at third division side, Zamora, where he stayed for two seasons from 2001 to 2003 before moving to Lanzarote in 2003 and then to Eibar in 2004 before signing for top flight Real Sociedad in  2005 making his Primera Liga debut in September 2005 but he found it difficult to hold down a regular place and only played about 14 games in just under two seasons before going on loan to Ponferradina in 2007. He was then signed by Real Valladolid and played 9 times in the top league but was then released from his contract in October 2008.

A second new face announced today is Álvaro García Cantó a small speedy right winger, who can also play on the left, who has come up through the ranks at Alicante. He was born on 7th July 1986 and is signing for Cadiz for the next two seasons.

27th January 2009

Cadiz are today due to complete the signing of Jon Erice Domínguez, a defensive midfielder, from second division team Huesca. He was born in Pamplona on the 3rd November 1986 and started his professional career in 2006 with Osasuna B. He progressed to the first team the following season and debuted in the Primera Liga in early 2007 before moving to Malaga in the winter of 2007. This season he signed for Huesca but has not been a regular and has been given permission to leave and is expected to sign for los amarillos for the rest of this season plus at least one more.

25th January 2009

Cadiz 1-0 Portuense - Another victory and three more points for los amarillos, who dominated the opposition but were unable to really kill them off. The victory came thanks to a great goal from Lopez Silva in the second half after good work by Caballero. Read match report here.

18th January 2009

Granada 74 1-2 Cadiz - Los amarillos came from 1-0 down at the end of the first half, with the home side being reduced to ten men on the stroke of half time, to win 1-2 thanks to a debut goal from Juanma Delgado and a Cristian header deep in to time added on. Read match report here.

13th January 2009

The club have announced a new signing and it is a left sided central defender, Juanma Delgado, who comes from Tenerife. He is 32 today and was born in Huelva and started his professional career with Ayamonte before moving to Recreativo in 1997, where he stayed until 1999 when he signed for Athletico Madrid. He could not break into the first team squad and only played for the B team before moving to Salamanca on loan for 6 months in 2000. He then signed for Racing Santander and debuted in the Primera Liga in 2001, he played a total of 180 games for Racing before moving in 2005 to Deportivo where he played 30 games for the first team. He then signed for Tenerife in 2007 where he was a regular in his first season but this year he has not been first choice and he has therefore been released from his contract.

11th January 2009

Cadiz 1-0 Roquetas - In a very poor and scrappy game los amarillos came away with the three points thanks to an Enrique goal in the second half. Read match report here.

7th January 2009

Bezares has indeed signed for OFI Crete until the end of the season but it is initially only on loan and he remains contracted to Cadiz.

6th January 2009

It looks as if Bezares, a true professional and Cadiz stalwart, is off to Greece as he has been given his release from his contract by Cadiz and is expected to sign for Crete.

4th January 2009

Cadiz 1-2 Guadalajara - In the final game of the first half of the season and the first of the new year it was all doom and gloom for Cadiz as they suffered their second defeat of the season, which also happened to be their second defeat at the Carranza, when the visitors of Guadalajara took the spoils thanks to two goals from Alex against another goal from Toedtli for los amarillos. Read match report here.

21st December 2008

Linense 2-2 Cadiz - This was a great opportunity for Cadiz to finish the year with another three points against the bottom of the table side. However it was the home side that went ahead after just 10 minutes but los amarillos came back well and goals from Enrique and Juanma saw Cadiz go in 1-2 up at half time. Just three minutes into the second half Linense were down to 10 men when Copi picked up a second yellow after fouling David Garcia. With everyone expecting more goals from Cadiz  regrettably it was a pretty poor showing for the rest of the game by los amarillos and to rub salt into the wound the ten men of Linense levelled the score in the final minute of time added on. Read match report here.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

16th December 2008

After weeks of rumours about the possible departure of Javier Acuña it has now become a matter of fact. The young Paraguayan forward has been signed by Real Madrid Castile for €480,000 for the rest of this season plus four more. Cadiz will also receive further payments depending on how many games Acuña plays for his new team, if he plays for the first team or if he is sold to another club so that Cadiz may end up with a million euros in total. We have always been impressed with the youngster when he has had the opportunity to play but, for whatever reason, he has never really held down a permanent place in the team throughout his time at the club and maybe by moving to another club he will get the opportunity to show his true potential.

One of the down sides of Gracia choosing to continue to use a very settled line up each week is that there are many players in the squad who are just not getting enough minutes on the field of play and this could well lead to more players moving out in the January transfer window.

14th December 2008

Cadiz 0-0 Real Jaen - In a pretty dour battle, in a half empty stadium, it was the well disciplined visitors who will be most pleased with the point as their keeper did not have to make a save against one of the most attacking teams in the league. Read match report here.

10th December 2008

Federation Cup - Cadiz 2-3 Granada - In this second leg of the preliminary round of the Copa Federation Javier Gracia again put out many of the players who have not been regulars this season and called up players from the B team. After Rubiato was injured in the 6th minute, which may rule him out for a few weeks, Fran Cortes moved further up the field and it was Cortes who equalised a Granada opener and then at the start of the second half put los amarillos 2-1 ahead with his second of the game. Granada then equalised after 75 minutes before being awarded a penalty, which their captain put away to make it 2-3 to the visitors. With the aggregate score of 3-3 it was the team from Granada who go through to the next round thanks to the away goal rule.

10th December 2008

The second leg of the Federation Cup against Granada takes place tonight at the Carranza kicking off at 20.45, with free entrance to season ticket holders.

The match this Sunday against Jaen at the Carranza, kicking off at 17.00, has been designated a half day of the club, which means that the season ticket holders will also have to buy tickets, although at a much lower amount than the normal ticket price e.g. the preferencia alta ticket is €10, instead of €22. Although this was commonly used when the club were in the Segunda A and the Primera it was not used last year and now that the club are in the Segunda B it seems like a very strange decision, which will alienate and upset many of the cadistas, especially in the current economic climate and just before Christmas. It will be interesting to see if this decision backfires on Munoz with, possibly, the team playing in front of a half empty Carranza.

7th December 2008

Ejido 0-1 Cadiz - A great result for los amarillos in this top of the table clash as Cadiz picked up all three points thanks to a goal from Mansilla in the final minute of normal time. Read match report here.

3rd December 2008

Federation Cup - Granada 0-1 Cadiz - the Copa Federation is a cup competition for all Segunda B and Tercera teams, who have been eliminated before the first round of the Copa del Rey. With Javier Gracia using many of the players who have not been regulars of the team plus calling up four players from the B squad, Cadiz came out victors in a pretty torrid affair in front of a very small crowd thanks to an 11th minute goal from Rosu.

30th November 2008

Cadiz 3-3 Marbella - What a match to miss!! After going behind to two goals from the visitors within the first 35 minutes los amarillos drew level before half time with two goals in a minute from Ormazabal and Toedtli. Cadiz then went ahead through a Toedtli penalty with just over a quarter of an hour left but the visitors then equalised, against the run of play, just six minutes before the end, which is how it finished. Read match report here.

28th November 2008

The match at Poli Ejido next weekend is due to kick off on Sunday, 7th December at 17.00, so log into www.ondacadiz.es to see los amarillos play.

The new strip from Diadora has been unveiled today and the shirts will hopefully be worn by the team on Sunday but will not be available in the shops for some time. A new strip is currently being designed for the season 2009/2010 by Diadora, who have signed an agreement to provide the clubs kits for the rest of this season plus a further four seasons.

27th November 2008

Another chance for those of you who rarely get the chance to see los amarillos in action. The match being played during the weekend of the 6th December, when Cadiz visit Poli Ejido, is being televised by the local Cadiz television station Onda Cadiz. As before this will mean that anyone will be able to watch the match via the internet. Unfortunately the match day and kick off time will not be announced until next week so keep checking www.cadizcf.com for the details. To view the match you will need to log into www.ondacadiz.es at the kick off time and you should be able to see the match in full, although obviously the commentary will be in Spanish.

24th November 2008

Regrettably we are having to miss next weeks game at the Carranza against Marbella but we will bring you the result and a match report by the 6th December. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

23rd November 2008

Cadiz 1-0 Ecija - With leading scores Toedtli and Juanma both injured for tonights game it was a chance to see how good the squad is at Cadiz. They came out victors by the single goal scored by Enrique in the first half, however they did hit the bar three times in the second half and really their dominance should have seen a greater victory margin. Read match report here.

16th November 2008

Real Betis B 0-1 Cadiz - A great result tonight in a hard fought battle against second in the table, Real Betis B, saw los amarillos come away with the three points thanks to a goal in the 85th minute from Rubiato. Read match report here.

9th November 2008

Cadiz 3-0 Antequera - Thanks to a quite superb first half performance in which Cadiz scored three and could easily have scored 4 or 5 los amarillos kept up the fight to storm away with this league title and give them two chances of getting back into the Segunda A. The goals tonight came from Caballero, in a sublime play of passing and movement between Caballero, Toedtli and Fran Cortes, plus another double for Toedtli, who is fast becoming an idol of the cadistas. Read match report here.

1st November 2008

Granada 3-3 Cadiz - In atrocious conditions this local Andalucian derby was like a cup tie with so much open play that it was hardly surprising that the final result was 3-3. After going behind Cadiz equalised thanks to an own goal to make it 1-1 at half time. They then went ahead through Raul Lopez before Granada equalised. Fleurquin made it 2-3 and then picked up a second yellow card when he was adjudged to have fouled in the Cadiz area, not only reducing los amarillos to 10 men for the final quarter of the match but also gave Granada the opportunity to equalise from the resultant penalty, which is what they did. At the end Cadiz will be thankful to come away with the point after a really tough battle. Read match report here.

28th October 2008

The match this weekend away at Granada is being televised by the local Cadiz television station Onda Cadiz. This will probably mean that anyone will be able to watch the match via the internet, although we are pretty certain that this will be the case we cannot guarantee it. The match is kicking off on Saturday 1st November at 18.00 (17.00 gmt), so if you log into www.ondacadiz.es at that time, hopefully you will be able to see the match in full, although obviously the commentary would be in Spanish.

26th October 2008

Cadiz 2-1 Lucena - A tough match against a well disciplined Lucena side saw Cadiz finally come out as victors thanks to a goal from Mansilla in the first half . The visitors scored an equaliser in the second half before Cadiz scored a second through Enrique, in time added on to finish 2-1 and take another three points. Read match report here.

19th October 2008

Puertollano 0-2 Cadiz - Another impressive display from los amarillos against a strong Puertollano team saw Cadiz come out victors by two goals to nil, with a goal in each half from Enrique and Toedtli. Read match report here.

13th October 2008

Cadiz 5-2 Ceuta - The one day delay in getting this match started was well worth the wait as Cadiz completely overran their opponents to come out 5-2 winners. A hat trick from Juanma, a great goal from Cristian and a further goal that looked like an own goal, although initially shown as a goal for Mansilla is where the goals for los amarillos came from. The visitors actually opened the scoring after a headed goal from a free kick which was not dealt with by the defense or the keeper. Their second goal came from a shocking mistake by the usually reliable Cristian. Read match report here.

12th October 2008

The clash against Ceuta has been postponed until Monday 13th October 2008, kick off at 17.30, because of flooding at the Carranza yesterday and the inclement weather in the Straits of Gibraltar causing problems for the team from Ceuta to make the journey.

5th October 2008

Linares 1-3 Cadiz - Another victory for los amarillos with Caballero causing them all sorts of problems and weighing in with two of the goals. Toedtli was the scorer of the other goal and he continues his great goal scoring record for Cadiz thus far with 5 goals in as many games. Read match report here.

3rd October 2008

There has been no reaction from Real Madrid and it looks likely that Acuña will be staying at Cadiz, at least for the present time. Meanwhile Julian De La Cuesta is out for 12 weeks through injury and so Mansilla is the likely replacement to join Fragoso at the centre of the defense.

30th September 2008

Cadiz have received an offer from Real Madrid for Javier Acuña, who in the three years he has been at the club has, regrettably for the club, not been given a good run out in the team but on the occasions that we have seen him on the pitch he has shown plenty of skill and ability that should have benefitted the club, especially last season when the club were crying out for someone who could create and score goals up front. But for whatever reason Acuña has not been a major part of any of the trainers game plans whilst at the club and indeed this year it looks as if he would be third or fourth choice striker behind Toedtli, Rubiato and Barreiro. The initial offer of €400,000 has not been accepted by the club and they have gone back with a counter offer and the players immediate future should be resolved in the next couple of days. Meanwhile Rosu, the Romanian international and ex Primera Liga player from Recreativo looks to be reaching match fitness, having played no games at all since the end of last season, and is hoping to make the squad in the next couple of games.

28th September 2008

Cadiz 3-0 Melilla - With the weather today more like you would expect to find watching an English league match, wet and windy, Cadiz completely dominated the contest and ran out easy winners. With two goals in the first half from Caballero and Toedtli plus a third from Rubiato near the end los amarillos won 3-0 and it could have been many more than that. Both teams finished with ten men although it really was not a dirty game in any way. Read match report here.

24th September 2008

San Fernando 3-4 Cadiz - What a local derby! Los amarillos finally came out on top in this seven goal thriller and this was after having a penalty saved and having a man sent off for the second match running. After going behind 2-0 Cadiz drew level before again conceding a bad goal just before half time to go in 3-2 down. The second half however it was nearly all Cadiz and they equalised, after a bad mistake by the San Fernando keeper, before scoring the winner just before the end. Read match report here.

21st September 2008

Cadiz 2-3 Conquense - The team that put Cadiz out of this years Copa del Rey when they won 3-2 after extra time also managed to end the unbeaten start to the league season by Cadiz, when they came from 2-0 down to again beat los amarillos 2-3. Read match report here.

20th September 2008

A big week for Cadiz as they face three league matches in the space of 8 days. First up is the match tomorrow at the Carranza against Conquense, which kicks off at 19.00, this is followed by another local derby when los amarillos travel the few kilometres down the road to face San Fernando on Wednesday, which kicks off at 21.00 and then finally it's back to the Carranza next Sunday, 28th September for the match against Mellila, which kicks off at 12.00.

Racing Club Portuense 1-2 Cadiz - Los amarillos remain unbeaten so far this season when they came from behind to beat local rivals Racing Club Portuense 1-2 in El Puerto de Santa Maria. Cadiz went behind after 14 minutes when a free kick near the edge of the box was well headed home by Iturralde. After a pretty scrappy first half Cadiz took a bit more control in the second half and were rewarded by an equaliser from Enrique in the 68th minute and then in the final minute of normal time, Toedtli, who came on after 56 minutes to make his debut for los amarillos leapt well to flick the ball past the keeper to make it 1-2 to Cadiz. Read match report here.

7th September 2008

Cadiz 2-0 Granada 74 - The first home game of the new season saw an extremely impressive display from los amarillos, who completely dominated their opponents. With a goal in each half from Juanma and Enrique the victory went to Cadiz 2-0, although it could easily have been at least double the score. Read match report here.

The next match is away at local opponents Racing Club Portuense of El Puerto de Santa Maria. The match is being played on Saturday 13th September 2008 kicking off at 18.15.

2nd September 2008

The final signing by Cadiz before the transfer deadline has been announced and it is a forward, Mariano Ramón Toedtli, who was born in Cordoba, Argentina on March 23 1976. He is 182 cm and 82 kg and after starting his professional career in the lower leagues in Argentina moved to Spain in 2000 when he joined Salamanca. The following season he joined Primera Liga outfit Sevilla where he remained for two seasons. In 2003 he went to Recreativo, who were at that time in the Segunda A and the following year he joined Ejido, where he has been for the last four seasons. Check out some of his early goals by clicking on this link, although the quality isn't great it certainly shows some impressive touches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS2xhRVbtPo&feature=related

31st August 2008

Roquetas 0-2 Cadiz - An excellent start to the league season for los amarillos as they completely dominated the opposition and came out victors 0-2, with two second half goals from Rubiato and Juanma. Read match report here.

29th August 2008

As expected the decision of the CEDD has gone against Cadiz and the team will definitely be playing in the Segunda B, Group 4 and will start their league fixtures on Sunday when they travel to play Roquetas de Mar. The club have previously announced that they would continue their fight through the courts but when and if this happens, it will not change the fact that Cadiz will be playing this season in the Segunda B. With only a couple of days left for signing and selling players it is expected that the Sports Director will be very busy to complete the squad ready for the challenges that await them this season.

28th August 2008

Cadiz have today announced the signing of Romanian international player Laurentiu Dimitru Rosu, who comes on a free transfer from Recreativo. He is an attacking left sided midfielder who was born on the 26th October 1975. His early professional career was at top Romanian side, Steau Bucharest, where he played 159 games over 7 years and scored 45 goals. Whilst at the club he won 5 championship medals, 3 Romanian cup medals and played in more than 40 European games. He also broke into the National team, where he has thus far played 38 times and scored 5 times. In 2000 he moved to Numancia where he played 125 games in four seasons and scored 27 goals in the Primera and Segunda divisions. In 2004 he moved to Recreativo, although he didn't play in his first season there due to an injury. The following season he played 34 times and scored 9 times helping the club to win promotion to the Primera.

27th August 2008

Copa del Rey Preliminary round - Conquense 3-2 Cadiz (after extra time) - Whichever division Cadiz finally find themselves in they can now concentrate fully on the league as they crashed out of the Copa del Rey in the preliminary round, going down 3-2 to Conquense after extra time. With the game being played in some pretty awful weather with wind, rain and storms all around it was the home team who started the strongest looking to take the scalp of the mighty Cadiz. However it was los amarillos who struck first when Enrique crossed for Juanma to clip the ball home. Many of the Cadiz players looked nervous on the ball and at the moment the team, with all the new players, is not a confident unit with plenty of passes going astray. Despite this at the start of the second half Cadiz began to dominate and they had a good four chances to increase their lead but were unable to do so. As the time rolled on towards the final whistle los amarillos nerves were on edge as they tried to maintain their slender lead and regrettably the local side equalised when Beñat beat Casillas with a shot from outside of the area.

So to extra time and again it was Cadiz who went ahead when Enrique managed to score but then Martins scored twice, once at the end of the first half of extra time and the second at the start of the second period, after a terrible mistake by De la Cuesta. Despite the home team then being reduced to 10 men Cadiz were unable to get back on terms and are therefore out of the Copa del Rey.

25th August 2008

It would appear that Cadiz have made a surprise signing from Hercules. He is Peruvian International player Juan Carlos Marino, a right sided midfield player who has six international caps and has scored two goals for his country. He was born in Lima, Peru on the 2nd January 1982 and started his professional career at Argentinian first division side, Lanus, where he stayed for 5 seasons without really breaking into the first team. In 2006 he moved to Peruvian first division side, Cienciano, where he played 42 matches in two seasons, scoring 9 times. As a result of his performances at Cienciano he broke into the International side and moved to top Peruvian side Alianza Lima but he only managed four outings, scoring once before he came to Europe last year. He played 15 times last season for Hercules, scoring once but with the arrival of Abel Aguilar at Hercules the Peruvian was going to be second choice hence the move to Cadiz.

However the Peruvian will only play for Cadiz if they are in the Segunda A and therefore he could well be sent on loan to another Segunda A team or back to Peru if the decision of the CEDD on Friday results in Cadiz playing in the Segunda B this season.

The preliminary round of the Copa del Rey kicks off  on Wednesday night with Cadiz travelling to play away against Conquense at 21.45.

22nd August 2008

Cadiz finished second in the three team tournament in Huelva tonight. In the first game Cadiz took on local team Punta Umbria and won 2-0 with goals from Enrique, who had an excellent game and Rubiato.

In the next game hosts Recreativo took on the local team and won 3-0, which meant that Cadiz would have to beat the Primera Liga outfit to win the trophy.

In the match between Cadiz and Recreativo the hosts opened the scoring when Aitor converted a free kick into the box. Cadiz fought back well and Caballero equalised just a minute later but they were unable to get the winner and so Recreativo were victors on the basis of the extra goal they scored against Punta Umbria.

21st August 2008

Sanlucar 1-2 Cadiz - Cadiz played another friendly last night against Sanlucar and came out on top 1-2, after going behind in the first half to a goal from Ezequiel. Cadiz came back well and Acuña earned a penalty when he was fouled in the area and Barreiro stepped up to slot the penalty home to make it all square. Near the end a couple of defensive errors from Cadiz gave the home team opportunities to score, which they were unable to convert, which left the way open for Mansilla to head home a Lopez Silva free kick to make it 1-2 to los amarillos.

Cadiz continue their travels tomorrow for the three team trophy in Huelva against Primera Liga outfit, Recreativo and local team, Punta Umbria.

18th August 2008

Victor Manuel Ormazabal Escobar has finally signed for Cadiz. He is a central midfielder born in Buenos Aires on 2nd April 1985 and debuted for Boca Juniors in 2003. In 2006 he went to Maccabi Haifa but his stay was shortlived and he was soon off to Pontevedra, where he has been for the last two seasons and where Javier Gracia was his manager.

Two players have definitely left Cadiz with their contracts having been rescinded and they are Vella, who was going to be second choice behind Cristian for the right back slot and Andrade, who wants to play in a higher league. We expect a couple more comings and goings before the season starts.

16th August 2008

Trofeo de Carranza - Cadiz 0-3 Sevilla - A disappointing result for Cadiz in the final of the Trofeo de Carranza in front of an excellent crowd who were very vocal trying to encourage los amarillos at every occasion. The first quarter of the match was very even with both sides playing some good football but neither dominating however gradually Cadiz started to play in a very deep defensive set up allowing their Andalucian Primera Liga neighbours more space in the centre of the park although Sevilla were finding it difficult to break through. Eventually the tactics of Sevilla changed and they encouraged Cadiz to come forward allowing Sevilla to break quickly from defense into the spaces created by this ploy. They also started closing down the Cadiz players very quickly forcing errors from los amarillos. In the 29th minute Navas centred from the right band, Kone back heeled the ball into the path of Chevanton, who made no mistake in easily putting the ball past Dani, in the Cadiz goal, to make it 0-1 to Sevilla. A few minutes later and Dani was called into action to block another effort from Navas as he rushed onto the ball after avoiding the offside trap. Cadiz had some very good moments of play when some super one touch football saw them progress at pace down the wings. In one such attack the ball zoomed down the right wing before being played through to Acuña, who had made a great run, but his effort went into the side netting before the referee had whistled that he was marginally offside anyway.

In the second half Cadiz pushed further forward looking to get back on terms but this meant more space for Sevilla to take advantage of and in the 54th minute Luis Fabiano slid a great defense busting ball through to Chevanton, who again had no problems in making it 0-2. Los amarillos didn't let their heads drop and continued to work hard to try and get back into the game but as they went up for a corner the ball broke from the Sevilla defense with three Sevilla players rushing forward against two Cadiz defenders and it was that man Navas again who was involved when he squared the ball from the right wing into the path of Adriano who made it 0-3. Still Cadiz went looking for at least one consolation goal and Acuña had the best chance of the game when a cross from the left found him just a couple of yards out with just the keeper ahead of him but he could not quite get the right connection with his head and the keeper was able to collect it with ease. Before the end Acuña was the one who caused most problems to the Sevilla defense when on two seperate occasions he pressed the man on the ball forcing them into mistakes, which he almost capitalised on. One when he rushed in to try and bravely head the ball before the Sevilla keeper could collect it, but he was always a yard short and on the next occasion he quickly volleyed a mis-kick from the keeper only to see the ball bounce agonisingly wide of the mark and so the score ended 0-3, with Sevilla collecting their fifth Trofeo de Carranza.

Trofeo de Carranza - Athletico Bilbao 1-0 Villareal - The play off for the 3rd and 4th place went to Athletico Bilbao when Iraola slotted home in the 26th minute after a pass from Etxeberria despite the Villareal protests that the scorer was in an offside position. Villareal came back strongly after the goal but were unable to beat Iraizoz in the Athletico Bilbao goal, although he was beaten some six minutes from the end by an Ibagaza free kick but fortunately for Bilbao the ball smashed into the post and away to safety.

15th August 2008

Trofeo de Carranza - Sevilla 2-0 Villareal - The reds from Seville dominated this match against fellow Primera Liga outfit Villareal and the score could have easily have been doubled but for some good saves from the Villareal keeper. Romaric and Luis Fabiano were particularly impressive for Sevilla and it was the Brazilian Fabiano who opened the scoring in the 16th minute when he slotted the ball home after collecting a pass from Renato in the area. Just a few minutes later and Romaric, after some great individual skill, played Fabiano in but this time the keeper was there. However the Brazilian didn't need to wait long to double the lead when in the 26th minute he was first to react to a loose ball in the area and fire home. The second half was an ugly affair with tempers frayed and not much football going on. So much so that the referee sent off Eguren of Villareal in the 55th minute after he had only come on at the start of the second half. Seven minutes later and 2 more players were off this time it was Viera, the Villareal keeper and Capel from Sevilla, who had also come on at the start of the second half. The score remained 2-0 to Sevilla and so it will be an all Andalucian final with Cadiz against Sevilla kicking off at 22.00 Saturday night. The consolation final between Athletico Bilbao and Villareal kicks off earlier at 18.30.

14th August 2008

Trofeo de Carranza - Cadiz 2-0 Athletico Bilbao - In the first semi-final of the 54th edition of the Trofeo de Carranza los amarillos achieved a super victory against Primera Liga outfit, Athletico Bilbao. In the first half neither side got that close to scoring although the team from Bilbao looked the more dangerous going forward without really troubling Kiko Casillas in the Cadiz goal. The second half was just four minutes old when Cadiz were ahead. Good work down the right, where Enrique and Cristian combined well all night, allowed Dani Fragoso to put the ball across into the centre where Rubiato leapt high to get his head to the ball and clip it into the net to make it 1-0. From that moment on it was almost all Cadiz with Fran Cortes playing well through the middle and Cadiz looking dangerous down the right everytime they broke and Cristian came close when he stormed through onto the ball in the Bilbao box and lobbed the keeper, who in the second half was Armando, only to see his effort float agonisingly the wrong side of the post. Other efforts from Enrique and Acuna flew high over the bar and De la Cuesta had one header that clipped the outside of the post and also during this time Yeste, the Bilbao playmaker, picked up his second yellow card and was sent off. In the 89th minute the pressure finally told when Lopez Silva, who had come on to replace Enrique fired in a shot that the Bilbao keeper could only parry and Acuna was first to react and smash the ball home to make it 2-0 to los amarillos. The final few minutes, with almost five added on, saw some sloppy play from Cadiz at the back which allowed Bilbao to get into some very dangerous positions but Casillas was able to deal with all that came his way and so Cadiz now progress to the final on Saturday night kick off 22.00 against the winners of the Sevilla v Villareal. The club have just announced that as a thank you to the season ticket holders who have renewed for this season they will be able to get a free ticket to see the final.

13th August 2008

As happened before the season started last year with the 'takeover' of the Baldasano group Cadiz looks to be a club in turmoil again with so much uncertainty, caused by the actions of the current administration. New signings are coming in with the start of the season just two weeks away and it now looks as if Vella is definitely leaving the club and either, or both, Fleurquin and Bezares are rumoured to have been told that they may no longer be required by the club. If this is indeed true it is a despicable way to have treated such stalwarts of the club for so many seasons and who have and would continue to give their all for los amarillos, unlike many of the signings from last year. Skeptics would say that the appeal by Antonio Munoz and his administration against the 'irregular' signing of Kiko, the Hercules player, to try and keep Cadiz in the Segunda A was a ploy to unite the cadistas behind them against the league authorities rather than to see the cadistas turn against the Munoz administration to blame them for the disaster of last season. Furthermore, now that the renewals of the season tickets have been completed and are now open for sale to the general public, it looks as if the squad is most definitely being put together as a Segunda B outfit, with the more experienced, and obviously more expensive players with regard to wages, being ousted, despite being a big part of the pre-season build up. Was the timing of these exits of the more experienced players another ploy by the administration to encourage season ticket renewals?

With more comings and goings in the next few days what effect will this have on the 'team' spirit just days before the season starts? Only time will tell but from past experience it does not augur well for the club at the moment.

12th August 2008

The match in Huelva on the 22nd August has now turned into a three team trophy event with local team CD Punta Umbria joining Recreativo and Cadiz in the line up.

Another new signing has been announced by Cadiz and it is central midfielder CARLOS Caballero Pérez who was born on 5th October 1984 in Alcorcon, where he played most of his football before moving to Linares, where he has been for the last two seasons. He has been signed for the next two seasons and begins training with the squad today.

A further 2 players are being considered by Cadiz. Firstly a 20 year old Argentinian wide player, Rodrigo Lamardo, has started to train with the squad to see if Cadiz will sign him. Meanwhile Victor Manuel Ormazabal Escobar, a midfielder, from Pontevedra, Javier Gracia's previous club, looks likely to be signed by Cadiz in the next couple of days.

10th August 2008

Whilst the club still hope that the team will be playing in the Segunda A for the forthcoming season, the uncertainty of the status of the team continues to cause problems for the trainer and sports director, as they are having to try to decide which player is staying, who is going or who is still to come in to the squad, without really having a clear idea to whether they should be preparing a Segunda A or a Segunda B team. In the last week both Yago Yao and Parri rejected the offers of Cadiz to accept a contract to play in the Segunda B, with an increased contract if in the end the team were in the Segunda A and so both players are no longer part of the future plans. Similarly the situation regarding De la Cuesta and Vella is still to be resolved and it is looking more and more likely that whatever the final outcome of the appeal by Cadiz the squad that has thus far been put together is more geared for the Segunda B.

Despite Cadiz, at this present time, playing in the Segunda B next season there have been over 9,000 season tickets already renewed and these tickets have still not gone on general sale.

Another pre-season match has just been announced and it will take place on 22nd August in Huelva against Primera Liga outfit, Recreativo.

3rd August 2008

Racing Club Portuense 1-1 Cadiz (Portuense won 6-5 on penalties) - The contest tonight for the Trofeo Ciudad del Puerto was going to be very interesting as it brought Cadiz up against fellow Segunda B rivals Racing Club Portuense. Javier Gracia continues to put out different combinations of players from game to game and during the first half both Cadiz and the home team were pretty ineffectual with Lopez Silva, Acuña and Mansilla looking to be the pick of the players for Cadiz. Los amarillos almost scored five minutes from half time when good play between Parri and Rubiato, whose shot was off target. On the stroke of half time the home side were ahead when Carrasco slotted the ball in after it had rebounded off the bar to make it 1-0. In the second half Gracia made four significant changes by bringing on Raul Lopez, Enrique, Dani Fragoso and Fran Cortes and suddenly Cadiz looked like a different team and started to dominate their opponents, Within five minutes of the restart los amarillos were back on level terms when Fran put the ball through to Andrade, in a good position in the box, and he was able to slip the ball past Manu Taranilla, the Portuense keeper to make it 1-1.

Cadiz continued pushing forward with Dani Fragoso impressing in midfield and Andrade had another great chance but he was a little slow getting his shot away and the effort was deflected wide. However it was the home team who came close to going ahead again when half way through the second half a header just went wide of the goal, defended tonight by Dani. Cadiz looked to have sealed a winner when Barreiro nodded the ball in off the bar but the referee and his officials ruled that the ball had not crossed the line and so the match ended all square at 1-1. So, as it was the night before, the winner of theTrophy was going to be decided on penalties. This time they did not favour Cadiz when after all previous penalties had gone in Mansilla failed to convert the sixth effort for Cadiz and so Portuense came out victors 6-5.

2nd August 2008

Puerto Real 0-0 Cadiz (Cadiz won 4-3 on penalties) - In the X1X Trofeo Villa de Puerto Real the fans saw a goalless 90 minutes followed by the excitement of a penalty shoot out. Cadiz started very brightly and looked a completely different outfit to the one that lost in Conil last week. Los amarillos dominated the first half with Enrique again causing plenty of problems down the right but despite efforts from Juanma, Bezares and Barreiro Cadiz were unable to open the scoring. The home team on the other hand relied on breaking quickly out of defense to try and catch the visitors out and in the most dangerous play of the half good play, between Palacios and Uceda forced Kiko Casilla, making his debut for Cadiz, pull off a good stop to keep the scores level. In the second half the home team made several changes and the teams were much more evenly matched with neither side dominating. For Cadiz Rubiato and Acuña looked lively in front of goal but were unable to score, Parri had a super free kick smash into the bar on the hour mark and five minutes from time Juanma had a free kick easily caught by Raul, the Puerto Real keeper and the game finished 0-0.

As there was a trophy up for grabs the match went to penalties and the hero of the hour was Kiko Casilla who pulled off 2 saves to give Cadiz their first, and hopefully not their last, trophy of the season with the final score being 4-3 in favour of los amarillos.

Tonight Cadiz are playing for the Trofeo Ciudad de El Puerto de Santa Maria against Racing Club Portuense at the Cuvillo stadium with kick off at 22.00.

1st August 2008

The third pre-season game for los amarillos kicks off tonight at 21.00 against Puerto Real in the Sancho Davila stadium.

The CEDD have rejected the request from Cadiz to suspend the start of the Segunda A and B leagues until the case from Cadiz for reinstatement into the Segunda A because of the alleged infringement of the rules by Hercules in the last match of last season, whose result meant relegation for Cadiz. The CEDD however have yet to sit to study the 70 page allegation presented to them by the club and, as a result, the club continues 'in limbo' not knowing for definite in which division they will be playing in, although in our opinion it is very unlikely that it will be the Segunda A. The club have announced that if the decision by the CEDD goes against them that they will then seek 'justice' through the law courts. All football fans want to see their team play in the highest possible league against quality opponents and for the clubs owners there is a substantial financial benefit to playing in the higher league but as this matter drags on it would seem that, in general, outside of Cadiz, public opinion seems to be turning against the club. Although there may well have been some irregularity, because it would appear that the regulations may have been open to different interpretations, concerning the registration of Kiko for Hercules, should this technicality be used to annul the result of that last match of the season and award three points to Cadiz?. When in fact in all honesty the team were just not good enough on the pitch last season, which was not only down to the players but also down to plenty of mistakes made by the administrators of the club, for example using no less than 4 managers throughout the season. At this present time the team that has been put together for next season looks to have been compiled for a Segunda B battle and surely it is now too late to get a team together for the Segunda A with very limited time for any training together before the season starts.

Meanwhile fellow Segunda B outfit and neighbours, Real Club Portuense, from El Puerto de Santa Maria, narrowly avoided being pushed into the Tercera Division yesterday after they managed to clear outstanding payments to players and suppliers from last season amounting to about €440,000.

30th July 2008

The draw has been made for the forthcoming Trofeo Carranza as follows:-

1st semi-final - Cadiz v Athletico Bilbao k.o. 22.00 on Thursday 14th August

2nd semi-final - Sevilla v Villareal k.o. 22.00 on Friday 15th August

The 3rd and 4th place match, between the 2 losing semi-finalists, and the final, between the 2 winners of the semi-finals, will both take place on Saturday 16th August, k.o. 18.30 and 22.00 respectively.

27th July 2008

Conil 2-1 Cadiz - Defeat tonight for Cadiz in Conil when Javier Gracia again put out different teams for each half. This time the first half team struggled against a determined Conil and were behind within 3 minutes, when Kike beat Dani. In the second half Fleurquin and Parri came in to control the centre of the field and Cadiz started playing some good football, whilst the home team dropped further back trying to defend their slender lead. In the 75th minute the perseverance from Cadiz led to an equalizer when Manu Barreiro, scored his second in the two games, to make it all square. In the final minute of the game with a draw looking the likely result a quick break by the home team saw Perla latch on to a defensive mistake to slot the ball past David to make it 2-1 to the home team.

David Garcia Haro, a 28 year old Valencian defender, who can play in the centre or in the wide back position, has been signed from Gimnastic, having started his career playing for Barcelona B.

Andres Fleurquin will be staying at Cadiz for next season, after much speculation that he was wanted by Cordoba. Also Gustavo Lopez, one of the successes of last season, has confirmed that if Cadiz do play in the Segunda A he will be available for the club, otherwise he has received an offer from Independiente de Avellanada.

26th July 2008

Arcos 1-2 Cadiz - In the first pre-season friendly tonight Cadiz came out victorious at Arcos. They were soon ahead when Manu Barreiro fired home in the 6th minute. Eight minutes later and it was 0-2 when Enrique headed home a cross from Juanma. The home team pulled one back in the 36th minute when Sierra converted from the penalty spot after Bezares handled the ball inside the area. Both teams completely changed in the second half and after a good first half display by los amarillos the display in the second was mediocre, at best, with plenty of the players looking way off the pace but the result remained at 1-2.

25th July 2008

An important new signing for Cadiz sees a new goalkeeper at the club. He is Francisco Casilla Cortes, known as Kiko Casilla, who was born on 2nd October 1986 in Tarragona. He started his career at Real Madrid Castilla (Real Madrid B), where he played for 2 years although rarely as first choice keeper. In 2007 he was acquired by Primera Liga outfit Espanyol on a free transfer. He played just 4 times for the first team last year and there was some speculation that Arsenal were looking at him. He is 1.92m tall and has previously been chosen for the under 21 Spanish side.

24th July 2008

Details of the dates and teams taking part in the Trofeo Carranza have today been confirmed. The event will take place over the 14th,15th and 16th August at the Ramon de Carranza Stadium and the teams competing for the trophy will be Cadiz, Sevilla, Villareal and Athletico Bilbao.

23rd July 2008

As expected the Committee of Appeal of the RFEF has upheld the earlier decision of the Competition Committee and means that Cadiz will be playing in the Segunda B, although if the club so wished they could continue the appeal through the Comite Espanol de Disciplina Deportiva (CEDD), the Committee of Discipline in Sports and if still unsuccessful could continue through the law courts.

22nd July 2008

Another new signing today adds strength to the centre of defence. Roberto Carlos Mansilla Abellan has been signed from Segunda B outfit, Merida, who made it to the first group knock out stages for promotion to the Segunda A last season. He was born in Madrid on the 31st July 1981 and stands 1.95m tall and weighs 86kgs and has played in the lower leagues before moving to Merida.

Two more pre-season games have also been announced. On Saturday, 2nd August the team will play for the Trofeo Villa de Puerto Real at the Sancho Davila stadium, kicking off at 21.00. The following day on the Sunday they will be playing for the Trofeo Ciudad de El Puerto de Santa Maria against fellow Segunda B outfit Racing Club de Portuense. The match kicks off at 22.00 at the Jose del Cuvillo stadium.

The Copa del Rey draw was undertaken yesterday and Cadiz have been drawn in the first preliminary round away at Conquense on the 27th August. If they are successful, on the 3rd of September, they will travel to take on the winners of the San Fernando - Ejido match.

21st July 2008

The first of the pre-season friendlies have been announced today and they are both being played this weekend. The first is on Saturday night the 26th July against Arcos kick off in Arcos at the Antonio Barbadillo stadium at 21.00 and the following night Cadiz will be in Conil at the Jose Antonio Perez Ureba stadium with the kick off at 20.30.

Cadiz have also signed another player today and it is Luis Miguel Rodrigo a central defender, just 20 years old, who has been signed from Almeria B and previously played for Numancia B and Fuenlabrada. He has been signed with the intention to play him in Cadiz B, although he will be training with the first team.

19th July 2008

The fixtures for the Segunda B have been published and Cadiz are listed in Group IV. Please click here to view the fixtures for Cadiz and see the other teams in their group. Please note that the weekend dates shown are all for the Sunday, when most matches are played, however matches can also be played on the Saturday. The actual date of the weekend games is only known within a week or two of the actual match.

Despite the fixtures including Cadiz in the Segunda B, the clubs appeal is still to be heard on Wednesday and the club continue pressing for the Hercules result to be overturned because of the 'irregularities' concerning Kikos registration to play. In another twist the new rules and regulations have been published concerning the dates when players have to be registered for the next season and there is a new proviso been included that players registered before the stipulated dates would automatically be considered to have been registered correctly. This proviso has obviously been inserted because of the case brought up by Cadiz and by its insertion does indeed appear to indicate that the previous rules were not as clear as they should have been and were open to different interpretation.

18th July 2008

After 5,000 Cadistas turned up at the Carranza last week, another 10,000 held a walk through the streets of Cadiz last night in protest at the 'alleged' non compliance of Kiko's signing to allow him to play for Hercules in the last match of the season. Although Cadiz are still hoping to be playing in the Segunda A next season the schedule has already been published for the dates of the matches next season in the Segunda A and by coincidence the two teams at the centre of Cadiz' appeal are facing each other in the first game of the season, namely Cordoba v Hercules.

Chico, the young central defender who was on loan at Portuense and then Barcelona B last season has been sold by Cadiz to Primera Liga outfit Almeria. Another one on the move is Abraham Paz who, following his failure to agree terms with Polish side Legia Warszawa, has now been signed by Hercules. Paz has been a true stalwart at the club during his 9 seasons and has been at the centre of the many ups, and downs, during that time.

17th July 2008

A little bit of good news for Cadiz, if indeed they are to play in the Segunda B next season. The Spanish Football federation (RFEF) have approved a change to the way that teams are promoted so that the four winners of each of the groups have two chances to gain promotion. Next season the four group winners will first be drawn, by raffle, to play in two matches, home and away, with the winners of the two double headers being promoted the two losing teams will then go into the hat with the other top four teams from each group for the play offs and therefore have another chance to gain promotion.

17th July 2008

Cadiz continue to reinforce the first team squad with a further two new signings. The first is Daniel Fragoso Escribano born in Mataro, Barcelona on 31/03/82. He is a central midfielder who can also play in defence. He comes from the lower sides of Espanyol, having also played for Real Madrid B, Extremadura, Barcelona B and Granada 74. The next signing is Juan Manuel Hernández Sánchez, known as Juanma, born in Jaen on 22/07/86. He follows Daniel Escribano from the lower sides of Espanyol and is a wide left player. We haven't seen the new signings play yet but from their histories it would seem that the ranks are being built for the challenges of the Segunda B rather than the Segunda A.

2 new faces are being presented in the Carranza today and they are the first signings for the new season. First is Borja RUBIATO Martinez, who was born in Madrid on 13/11/84. He is a forward who has been signed from Athletic Madrid, where he played for the B team last year scoring 17 goals and he has been signed for 3 seasons. Next up is Jose María LOPEZ de Silva Sanchez, who was born in Huelva on 2/1/83. He is a wide player able to play down either flank and started his playing career in the inferior teams at Real Madrid and Valencia, without breaking into the better teams and in the last few years he has been playing in the lower leagues for Burgos, El Linares, El Alcala and Orihuela.

The club have now published the details of season ticket prices for the next season. As they still do not know for sure which division they will be playing in prices have been published for both the Segunda B and the Segunda A. Full information of these is on the ticket info page.

Xabi Gracia Carlos has now been presented as the new trainer of Cadiz. he was born in Pamplona, Navarra on the 1st May 1970 and is one of the youngest trainers around. He started his professional playing career with Bilbao Athletic before moving on to Lleida, Valladolid, Real Sociedad and Villareal before moving into training at Cordoba followed by Pontevedra. He took Pontevedra to the final phases of the Segunda B last season although they missed out on promotion. He has signed for 2 seasons.

The uncertainties of which division the club are going to be playing in next season continue to cause problems at the club. A new Sports Director has been brought in, Julio Peguero, who has been with Recreativo for many years. His first task has been to find a new trainer for next season and he has had discussions with Victor Esparrago, who looks to have decided against returning to the Carranza possibly because of the situation at the club, although personal reasons have been intimated at. He has also had discussions with Javi López, ex trainer of Gimnastic but it looks as if he is looking to train a team in the Segunda A or higher and therefore may also turn down the chance to train Cadiz. Another likely candidate is Xabi Gracia, formally the young trainer at Pontevedra and ex footballer who was playing in the same team as Fleurquin in Cordoba. He looks to be the favourite at the moment as he has shown his interest in coming to the club whether they are in the Segunda A or Segunda B, although he does have less experience than other candidates. Again at the present time no definite decision has been made and we understand that other options are being pursued. The uncertainty also passes down to the players as many are waiting to see what will happen with the clubs appeal before deciding whether to stay or go. For example Paz has still not completed his move to Poland, Fleurquin has been linked with Cordoba and many others are in limbo. One player who has been released from his contract by Cadiz is Kamil Kosowski who has been signed by Apoel F.C. of Cyprus.

As regards the appeal it is understood that the relative papers will be presented by the club by Monday of next week, Hercules and Cordoba then have 5 days in which to present theirs and it is likely that the Tribunal will sit to consider the matter during the week commencing 22nd July and so it could be another two weeks with everything in limbo and the club unable to make definitive preparations for the next season. The Cadistas are gathering in the Carranza this evening at 20.00 to show their support for the club.

4th July 2008

At last the decision has been made and it is that Cadiz will be playing in the Segunda B next season. The Competition Committee rejected the appeal by Cadiz regarding Hercules playing Kiko in the last match of the season despite, according to Cadiz, his registration was not strictly in accordance with the regulations. Cadiz have 10 days in which to appeal the decision but it looks as if they are clutching at straws and maybe it would be better to swallow the bitter pill of relegation and get on with the work to strive for immediate promotion back to where the team should be. Instead of looking for technicalities to try and survive in the Segunda A perhaps they should be looking at why it all went so wrong last season and look to learn from the many mistakes made and move forward.

1st July 2008

Still the uncertainty continues at the club as to which division they will be playing in next season. Although the Competition Committee sat yesterday to consider the appeals from Cadiz, Hercules and Cordoba and indeed reached a decision, they have yet to make their decision public. Their announcement has to be 'edited' and it is hoped that this will be made public by the latest of this Friday. Speculation is rife about what all this delay means with many believing that the decision has gone in favour of Cadiz and the extra time now being taken is to resolve the number of teams to be playing in the Segunda A and the Segunda B for next season.

27th June 2008

Much is going on at Cadiz at the moment, although it is very difficult to make definite plans for the future until the club know which division they will be playing in next year. The appeal by the club against Hercules playing Kiko in the last game of the season, despite his registration for the first team not being completed within the specified dates, is to be heard early next week. There is plenty of speculation in the press about the situation and many are pointing at previous similar precedents', which seem to point to Cadiz being awarded three points for the last game of the season, which would put them above Cordoba in the final table and, theoretically, mean that Cordoba would be relegated instead. However if Cadiz are indeed awarded the three points it is more than likely that for next season the Segunda A would be increased to 23 or 24 teams.

Whilst all this is going on Cadiz have been looking at a replacement sports director and high in the frame is Julio Peguero from Recreativo, who could take over from Jose Manuel Barla. Two of the most experienced Cadistas have pledged to stay with the club even if they are relegated to the Segunda B and they are Raul Lopez and Enrique. Whilst another true Cadista, Bezares, offered to forgo his salary for last season after the match against Hercules, which looked to have sealed the drop to the Segunda B.

20th June 2008

As at todays date the move by Paz to Polish side, Legia Warszawa, has not been completed because the Polish side have, allegedly, changed certain conditions in his contract that had been previously agreed with the players agent.

Meanwhile back in Cadiz desperate times call for desperate measures and Antonio Munoz is trying to get the Hercules result overturned because of an 'alleged' breach of the rules surrounding the Alicante team playing Kiko. It is unlikely that this will succeed but we will keep posting updates.

The relegation of the team will cost the investors in the club considerable sums of money as many of the players will become free agents because of mutually agreed 'get-out' clauses in their contracts in the case of relegation. As a result the 'asset' value of those players has immediately been wiped off the clubs books. Additionally the club will lose sponsorship money and money from TV rights as there are very few Segunda B games televised and finally, it remains to be seen how the relegation will affect season ticket sales for next season but it is very likely that sales will be down and the price of those tickets should also be much lower.

We will try to briefly explain the football league system as far as it affects the first team of Cadiz. Football in Spain is governed by the RFEF, Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol , however the Primera Liga and the Segunda A are run by the LFP, Liga de Futbol Profesional, as separate entities in coordination with the RFEF. The main difference for Cadiz now is in the promotion and relegation systems in the Segunda B. Basically the Segunda B is made up of  80 teams split into 4 leagues of 20 teams in roughly regional divisions. Cadiz will participate in group 4 made up of teams from Andalucia, Castille La Mancha, Ceuta and Melilla. At the end of the season the top 4 teams from each league will qualify for play-offs to determine which of those 16 teams will gain promotion to the Segunda A, which makes it a very difficult category to get out of as it effectively comes down to a knock out competition at the end of the normal league season.
