Click here to return to current season 16th June 2007 Cadiz 3-3 Real Madrid Castilla - The last day of the season saw Cadiz take on the already relegated Real Madrid B team at the Carranza. From the start Cadiz pushed forward very strongly and after just 4 minutes found themselves ahead when Enrique slotted the ball in after good work from Pavoni. Completely against the run of play the visitors picked up 2 goals within 2 minutes after some rare defensive lapses by Cadiz. Los amarillos then had a stroke of luck when Enriques centre was deflected into the net for an own goal to bring the teams back to all square. Just before half time though the visitors were ahead again when a good pass from De La Red was fired home by Nieto. The second half was less frantic than the first and the patience of the home team finally paid off when in the 78th minute Lobos scored a super goal with the best play of the day to bring the score to 3-3, which is the way the game ended. There was plenty of passion in the game and it was Cadiz who opened the scoring midway through the second half when Acuña received a pass on the edge of the area with his back to goal. He managed to touch the ball to his right, taking him just wide of the defender at his back, and swivel to strike a great shot past the Malaga keeper. Unfortunately for los amarillos, as has happened in the last two games, they conceded in the final minutes of the game when Hidalgo received a ball in front of goal and had no trouble in tapping it in to make it 1-1. The only slight blemish in an otherwise superb afternoon was a consolation goal for the visitors scored with the very last kick of the match. However they have stated that they will give the three main parties until the 15th June to provide more details of any bid and they will consider the matter closed after that date, if no substantiated bid or bids have been made. 26th May 2007 Ponferradina 1-3 Cadiz - A resounding victory for Cadiz at relegation favourites Ponferradina saw the visitors score three second half goals, two of which were from the spot, with the home side getting a very late consolation goal. There was an incredible end to the game when three of the home players were sent off, making a total of four Ponferradina players being sent off in the match. Read match report here. 20th May 2007 Cadiz 0-0 Lorca - On paper this looked like a definite three pointer for los amarillas but with Lorca fighting for survival and with the home team struggling to find the net at home, it was not going to be easy. With just two changes from the team that started last week Jose Gonzalez was relying on the players who battled so hard to get a point last week at league leaders, Valladolid. Lorca came out strongly, battling for everything but without causing any problems to the Cadiz defense, whilst the Cadiz midfield were trying to play with more fluidity but were not finding too much time on the ball and the match turned into a scrappy dour affair. Cadiz however had the best chances to break the deadlock but, as so often this season, especially at home, they were unable to find the back of the net and the game ended a disappointing 0-0. Read match report here. 13th May 2007 Real Valladolid 2-2 Cadiz - A battling performance from Cadiz against the already promoted Real Valldolid, saw los amarillas twice come back to level the scores at 1-1 at half time and 2-2 at full time. The second time they were asked to get back on equal terms was after they had been reduced to 10 men, when Fleurquin picked up a straight red card. Read match report here. 6th May 2007 Cadiz 1-2 Xerez - With goals at the start of each half Xerez were the victors in the local derby at the Carranza. Although Cadiz hit back with a screamer from Vella and Lobos hit the bar they were unable to get back on terms and the match finished with the visitors taking the spoils, which pushed them above Cadiz in the table. Read match report here. 28th April 2007 Poli. Ejido 0-1 Cadiz - Another tough contest away in the Almeria region against Polideportivo Ejido, who were just 3 points behind Cadiz at the start of the game. Although the home team started the stronger there was no rhythm to the game and there were no real efforts on the goal protected by Armando. In fact the best chances in the first half fell to Cadiz with Pablo causing plenty of problems and forcing Kike in the Ejido goal to pull off one super save to keep the score all square. It wasn't until just before half time that Armando was called into action when he had to make a good save to stop an effort from Pedro Vega keeping the score at 0-0 at half time. The second half started like the first with the home side trying to control the game but with little success. Just 9 minutes into the half Cadiz were awarded a free kick almost 40 yards out, up stepped Miguel Garcia to fire the ball into the penalty area and goalwards. Despite the distance from goal in a packed area the ball found its way past Kike and into the net to put los amarillos one up. Although both sides had some further chances in the half, the best of which fell to Cadiz, neither side were able to add to the score line and it was the visitors who went away very happy with the three points. After the super victory last week away at Las Palmas hopes were high that Cadiz would go on a long winning run for the rest of the season. Unfortunately it was not to be as los amarillos went down 1-2 to Ciudad Murcia after going one up after 7 minutes and dominating much of the first half without being able to add to their lead. The second half was completely different with the visitors playing the better football and having the better chances. It seemed as if it was only a matter of time before Ciudad Murcia equalised and so it was when the inevitable happened in the 60th minute, when Armando was beaten by a well struck effort from 30yards.As the clock ticked down it looked as if that was how the score would stay but in the fourth minute of time added on and with virtually the last kick of the match the visitors snatched a winner. Read match report here. 14th April 2007 Las Palmas 0-3 Cadiz - This was a result waiting to happen as Cadiz have dominated many of their matches this season but without getting the result that their play has deserved. Las Palmas had only lost 2 games at home and won their last 3 games so this wasn't going to be an easy contest. Jose Gonzalez made several changes, some enforced, to the team that started last weeks match. The match started with Cadiz playing as if they were the home team, dominating the early possession and having the best chances to open the scoring and although the home team also troubled Armando on a couple of occasions in the first half, at half time the deadlock remained unbroken. The second half started like the first but this time los amarillos scored within 4 minutes of the restart when Miguel Garcias shot from outside the area found the back of the net. As the home team went looking for the equaliser the game opened up even more and Cadiz piled on the pressure with their flowing attacking football, which resulted in a further 2 goals from Sesma and Acuña to give Cadiz a very well deserved 0-3 victory. Read match report here. 8th April 2007 Cadiz 1-1 Sporting Gijon - Another 2 points dropped at the Carranza with the visitors going ahead in the 10th minute when Diego Castro latched on to a loose ball in the Cadiz area to easily slot the ball past Armando. As usual los amarillos continued fighting and pressing forward to get back on level terms and in the 35th minute Pablo picked up the ball in his own half went on a run, dribbling past two players before unleashing a great right foot shot that found the corner of the net to make it 1-1. The second half turned into a fairly scrappy game with many interruptions for fouls, resulting in 10 bookings, five for each side, although again Cadiz had the better chances to take all three points but were unable to find the back of the net and so the match finished 1-1. Read match report here. 1st April 2007 Numancia 1-0 Cadiz - Cadiz continue to play exciting attacking football but unfortunately they also continue to be unable to convert the many scoring chances into goals and then leaking a goal near the end. In this game the Numancia keeper, Juan Pablo, had an exceptional game and was the main reason that Cadiz were unable to score, pulling off at least half a dozen saves that could easily have beaten him on another day. The first half finished all square with los amarillos dominating much of the half and having by far the better chances to break the deadlock. The second half continued in much the same way until the 70th minute when De Quintana picked up his second yellow card to reduce Cadiz to 10 men and give the home team a numerical advantage with 20 minutes still to go. Despite playing with a man less, which Cadiz seem to be getting used to recently, they continued to look for the victory and shortly after the sending off Pavoni had another effort that Juan Pablo again did well to keep out. Then with just 10 minutes to go some good play by the Numancia forward, Julio Alvarez, saw him beat the Cadiz defense and put a shot past the despairing Armando to give the home team the lead, which is the way the match ended. Read match report here. 24th March 2007 Cadiz 1-2 Albacete - The hopes of a swift return to the Primera Liga continue to slip after this defeat at home against Albacete. As has been the case in many of their matches this season Cadiz had much of the possession but were unable to convert the pressure into goals. The first half finished goalless with Cadiz probably having the better chances although Armando had to be alert on a couple of occasions to stop the visitors from going ahead. All that changed when within a minute of the restart Bezares committed a foul in the penalty area, earning him a straight red and giving away a penalty, which Calle converted to put Albacete ahead. Jose Gonzalez threw caution to the wind and almost immediately took off De Quintana for Miguel Garcia to play with just the three defenders. Despite the forward pressure Cadiz were still unable to find the equaliser from open play but in the 75th minute De Paula was fouled in the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Up stepped Miguel Garcia, as he had done two weeks ago against Hercules, to slot the ball home to make it all square. With 15 minutes left on the clock the crowd were hoping that Cadiz could find the winner but in the end, with virtually the final kick of the match in the third minute of time added on Calle again got on the score sheet to make it a 2-1 victory to the visitors. Read match report here. 20th March 2007 The match against Albacete at the Carranza kicks off on Saturday 24th March at 18.30. Tickets to the general public will go on sale from tomorrow, Wednesday, 21st March 2007. 18th March 2007 Alaves 1-1 Cadiz - A better display from los amarillos, after the last couple of weeks, saw them come away with a point against Alaves, who had gone up to the Primera Liga with Cadiz in season 2004/5 and were relegated with them last season. Both teams created chances but it wasn't until the 67th minute that the deadlock was broken when Ogbeche, who had only just come on, put the ball in the net to make it 1-0 to the home team. Jose Gonzalez then put on Lucas Lobos for his first outing since his injury at Tenerife and immediately Cadiz attacked more looking to get something out of the game. The equaliser came in the 84th minute when, Abel Buades, who had come on as sub at the start of the second half, swung over a great free kick that the Alaves defender, Aloisi, could only divert into his own net. There was still time for Alaves to go down to 10 men when Astudillo picked up a second yellow but despite the one man advantage Cadiz were unable to make their numerical superiority count in the remaining few minutes and the game ended all square. Read match report here. 11th March 2007 Cadiz 1-1 Hercules - Another 2 points dropped at home when los amarillos could only thrash out a hard fought 1-1 result at the Carranza. In a dour contest neither side dominated and most of the game took place in the middle of the park. Half way through the first half Medina was fouled in the area and Miguel Garcia converted the spot kick to put Cadiz 1-0 ahead. Hopes that the home team could build on the lead were dashed in the 42nd minute when Miguel Garcia picked up, a rather harsh, second yellow card leaving Cadiz to battle the whole of the second half with a one man disadvantage. The visitors piled on the pressure in the second half and Armando had to be on top form to keep the lead for Cadiz but just 12 minutes from time he was beaten by a good shot from Ariel to bring the teams level, which is how the match ended. Read match report here. 3rd March 2007 Castellon 2-0 Cadiz - A rather disappointing display from los amarillos, after such strong performances of the recent weeks, saw them lose to Castellon, who not only did the double over Cadiz in the league but were also responsible for Cadiz crashing out of this seasons Copa del Rey. A goal in each half saw the home team take the points with a 2-0 victory. Although Cadiz had enough chances to get something out of the game, and even had the ball in the net in the first half, which was ruled out by the referee, this was not one of their better performances. The list of the injured players is increasing but there is still enough quality within the squad to keep Cadiz in with a shout of promotion come the end of the season. This result is a small setback in that quest but there are still plenty of points up for grabs. Read match report here. 26th February 2007 Congratulations go to Jose Gonzalez and his wife, Isabel, as she gave birth to twins yesterday in Cadiz. 24th February 2007 Cadiz 2-0 Salamanca - Another superb display by los amarillos saw them dominate the opposition again, playing the type of football that took them to the division title just two seasons ago. Two goals, within the opening twenty minutes, from Pablo and Pavoni saw Cadiz take the much needed three points as they continue their push for promotion. They remain 5 points adrift of third placed Almeria, after their Andalucian rivals also picked up three points when 2 late goals gave them victory. Read match report here. 17th February 2007 Cadiz 2-2 Almeria - What a match! A packed Carranza saw a really impressive and dominating display from los amarillos, which should have seen them pick up a much needed three points against fellow Andalucian promotion rivals, Almeria. Unfortunately it was not to be. Despite immense pressure right from the start the home team were unable to break the deadlock and in the 30th minute, in virtually their first meaningful attack, the visitors scored the opening goal by Ortiz, the Almeria captain. The Cadiz equaliser came just 9 minutes later, when they were awarded a free kick and up stepped Abel Buades to launch a great free kick, which flew over the out-stretched finger tips of Westerveld, in the Almeria goal, and just under the bar. On the stroke of half time the stadium erupted as a storming attack from half way ended up with Pablo sliding the ball into the net to make it 2-1 to Cadiz. But after the referee had signalled a goal he noticed his assistant with his flag raised near the half way line and after consulting him he disallowed the goal, presumably for offside, to bring the teams in at half time all square at 1-1. Within 2 minutes of the start of the second half the visitors were down to 10 men, when the referee showed a straight red to Cisma, for a meaningless tug on Pablo. More pressure from Cadiz saw a number of chances slip just wide or high, until in the 60th minute Pablo, at last beat the offside, and picked up a ball over the top to slide it past the despairing Westerveld to make it 2-1. Surely they must win now with the lead and a man advantage but no, within 30 seconds the ball found it's way out to the Almeria left wing again and another cross was superbly guided home by that man Ortiz. Making it 2-2 and that was how it stayed, despite further chances falling the way of the home team. The supporters, as always, were superb as was the Cadiz display and if they continue to play this way, they will definitely be pushing for promotion come the end of the season. Read match report here. 14th February 2007 The big match this week at the Carranza, against third placed Almeria, kicks off at 18.30 on Saturday, 17th February 2007. 10th February 2007 Real Murcia 1-0 Cadiz - In a tough match away to fellow promotion hopefuls, Real Murcia, Cadiz battled hard and forced a number of good saves from Notario, in the Real Murcia goal. The goal for the home team came in the 28th minute when the referee blew up for a dubious free kick on the edge of the Cadiz area. Ivan Alonso took the free kick, which went straight through the Cadiz wall and past the helpless Armando. Unfortunately los amarillos were unable to get back on even terms and suffered their first loss under Jose Gonzalez' reign. Next weeks game at the Carranza against another promotion rival, Almeria, is vital to keep alive Cadiz' push for one of the promotion places. Read match report here. 3rd February 2007 Cadiz 1-0 Tenerife - Another 3 points picked up as the team continue to be able, to finally, convert their results to victories instead of draws. Since Jose Gonzalez replaced Oli as the manager the team have now played 12 league games, winning 6 and drawing 6, with 4 of those victories coming in the last 4 matches. In a tough game Medina got the all important winner in the 42nd minute. A free kick by Nano was headed goalwards by Cañeda forcing a save from Bernardo, in the Tenerife goal, but he could only palm the ball away and it fell to the feet of Medina, who made no mistake. Some bad news came from the game though. In the 30th minute Lucas Lobos was stretchered off after a crunching tackle, bringing back memories of the last time he faced Tenerife in the first half of the season when he was injured and was out for 6 weeks. Initial medical investigations look as if he has badly torn ligaments in his right knee and could again be out for up to 6 weeks. Abel Buades Vendrell, a central midfielder, has been signed from Primera Liga outfit Sporting Gimnastico, who are currently languishing at the bottom of the division. The Valencian born player, who is 29, has been a regular first team player for Gimnastico and helped them win promotion to the Primera Liga last season. He has signed for the rest of this season plus a further two. 31st January 2007 The yellow card that Medina picked up on Sunday has indeed been overturned by the appeals committee and he therefore remains on 3 yellows for the season. In another piece of news Cadiz have signed another central defender as cover for Paz whilst he is out with his injury. They have signed Francisco Borja Enrique Ayesa ‘Neru’ from Racing Santander for the rest of the season and with an option for a further year. He has been with Racing Santander for 12 years playing , many games in the primera liga, although he did play in this division in the 2004/05 season when he was on loan at Sporting Gijon. 30th January 2007 The Cadiz team had a nightmare journey home yesterday from Gran Canaria when their flight into Madrid arrived late, which meant that they were not allowed onto the connecting flight to Jerez. So they had to wait for the next flight out and arrived some 5 hours late at Jerez airport at 22.00 last night. On a brighter note the club are going to appeal against Medina's booking for diving and are very hopeful that the video evidence that they have will mean that his booking will be rescinded. The next match, at home against Tenerife, has been scheduled to kick off at 18.30 on Saturday the 3rd February, with tickets to the general public going on sale from Wednesday the 31st January. 28th January 2007 Vecindario 1-2 Cadiz - It was almost inevitable that Nenad Mirosavljevic would score against his old team mates if he played and he did in the 17th minute to put the home team ahead. In difficult conditions and on the artificial playing surface los amarillos battled hard without creating too many chances however, within one minute during the second half, their determination paid off as firstly, on the hour mark, Medina put the ball in the net, at the second time of trying, to bring the teams level. Then just 60 seconds later good play from Pavoni allowed Nano to beat the defense and make it 1-2 to Cadiz, which is how the match finished. This was the third consecutive win and pushes Cadiz up to fourth place just 2 points off the promotion places. Read match report here. 26th January 2007 The forthcoming match in Gran Canaria against the bottom team, Vecindario, is due to kick off on Sunday 28th January at 19.00 (18.00 in mainland Spain). The match is taking place in the Estadio Municipal de Vecindario, which has an artificial grass pitch. Cadiz will be without the suspended, Lucas Lobos, and may also be facing Nenad Mirosavljevic, the ex Cadiz player, who signed for Vecindario this week. 20th January 2007 Real Madrid B 0-1 Cadiz - Another solid performance by los amarillos, saw a Pablo Hernandez goal in the 19th minute secure another three points. This second consecutive victory sees Cadiz well placed at the halfway stage of the season ready for the push for an immediate return to the top flight. Read match report here. 14th January 2007 Cadiz 1-0 Malaga - After 4 consecutive 0-0 results at the Carranza, los amarillos were still looking for their first home win under the replacement manager, Jose Gonzalez. This Andalucian derby looked to be heading the same way as it went into time added on with neither side really looking as if they could break the deadlock. But in the first minute of the overtime a cross into the box from Caneda saw the ball fall to Lucas Lobos, who managed to get some contact on the ball, which sent it goalwards through a defenders legs. As the defender tried to get some sort of control on the loose ball it flicked off his leg and past the Malaga keeper to make it 1-0 to the home side. That was good enough to secure the three points. This was a dour contest with neither keeper that stretched but at the final whistle the anxiety from the players and the crowd was immediately lifted as Cadiz at last scored at home and took 3 points. Hopefully the players will now be able to relax more at home and play the flowing attacking football that they are known for and really dominate at home in the push for promotion to the Primera Liga. Read match report here. 7th January 2007 Elche 1-1 Cadiz - With several changes to the team which started in the last game, Cadiz travelled to Elche, in Alicante, looking for the three points that would kick start their push for promotion. Despite having many good chances, and what appeared to be a good goal ruled out for offside, los amarillos were unable to beat the home team and recorded their sixth draw in the last eight games but remain unbeaten under Jose Gonzalez. The goal that saved a point for Cadiz again came from a defender, De Quintana, who was captain for the day in the absence of the injured Abraham Paz, who is to undergo surgery on his injured knee. He played for the B team, although has played for the A team, where he debuted last year and was also called up for one game this season, and has been signed for the rest of this season and the following season. This contract could then be extended unless Valencia recall him. Please click here for more information. 20th December 2006 Cadiz 0-0 Ponferradina - Another game at home where the superiority of the home team could not be turned into goals and a first victory at the Carranza for the new manager. Los amarillos were unable to break through the deep defending of the visitors despite having an extra man advantage for much of the first half when the Ponferradina defender, Bornes, was shown a second yellow card. However the equilibrium was rectified after just 6 minutes into the second half when Fleurquin also received his second yellow card of the game. This was the fourth successive home game that has ended 0-0. At the moment the lack of goals at home is weighing heavily on the team and if Cadiz are to push for promotion they must relax and play with a bit more confidence in front of goal at home. Read match report here. 17th December 2006 Lorca 1-2 Cadiz - Another fine, battling performance saw los amarillos pick up another three points on the road, with a 2-1 victory against Lorca. Goals from Fleurquin and Paz saw Cadiz come away with the victory and Lorca only managed their goal thanks to a penalty. This win puts Cadiz just 4 points from the promotion places and a victory at the Carranza on Wednesday against lowly Ponferradina would put los amarillos in a great position going into the mid season break. Read match report here. 10th December 2006 Cadiz 0-0 Valladolid - Los amarillos remain unbeaten under their new manager but were again unable to score at the Carranza, despite having the better chances and playing against 10 men for some thirty minutes. The good news is that the knock to the knee that Lucas Lobos took was not on the same knee that kept him out for 6 weeks and the swelling is expected to go down within 48 hours and he should be available for selection for this weekend. The bad news is that club captain Abraham Paz is out for between 4 and 6 weeks with knee ligament damages to the same knee that kept him sidelined at the start of the season. This weekends game in the Carranza against Polideportivo Ejido will kick off at 17.00 on Sunday the 26th November and tickets to the general public go on sale on Thursday from 10.00 to 13.30 and from 17.30 to 20.00. 18th November 2006 Ciudad Murcia 1-1 Cadiz - Another confident and well controlled performance saw Cadiz take the lead in the 33rd minute when De Paula found the back of the net. 4th November 2006 Sporting Gijon 5-4 Cadiz - Thats right it's not a typographical error, the score last night at the Molinon stadium was a 5-4 victory for Sporting Gijon. This was after Cadiz went 0-2 up within the first twenty minutes and then had a Paz penalty saved by the Sporting Gijon keeper, before the home team managed to get back into the game and finally take all three points. At the moment there are more downs than ups for the 'yellow submarine' and manager Oli must start to get the best out of his very strong squad of players, who on paper should be battling at the top of the table instead of struggling in mid table. Read match report here. 2nd November 2006 Good news for all Cadiz fans is that Lucas Lobos has been named in the squad for the forthcoming trip to Sporting Gijon. With Lucas Lobos still out for a similar time, losing two of the most impressive players thus far this season at the same time is very unlucky for Oli but there is still plenty of experience up front and at least it gives tremendous opportunities to others to shine and try to become permanent members of the team. 20th September 2006 Copa del Rey - Cadiz 3-2 Sporting Gijon. Oli made several changes to the starting line up giving an opportunity to players in the squad who have thus far this season failed to make the team. In front of 5,000 spectators the visiting team went ahead in the 24th minute when Barral scored from the spot after Velazquez was adjudged guilty of a misdemeanour in the area. Right at the start of the second half Cadiz found themselves behind again when a cross into the box was diverted past Limia by the Cadiz captain, Paz. Despite heavy pressure Cadiz had to wait until the 86th minute to get back on terms when Lucas was fouled in the box by the visiting keeper and the referee awarded another penalty to Cadiz. Again captain Paz made no mistake making it 2-2 with only minutes left. 20th August 2006 Trofeo Ramon Carranza:- In the first semi-final Cadiz played Villareal in front of a crowd of 16,000, who saw an exciting match where Cadiz twice went behind to goals from Gonzalo in the 10th minute, which was equalised by Cesar in the 40th minute, and from Nihat in the 63rd minute, which was equalised in the dying seconds by Enrique. The match then went to penalties and after going 2-1 down after De Quintana failed to score Los Amarillos finally edged home 4-2. In the second semi-final Real Madrid and Real Betis played out another exciting and nail-biting match with Betis taking the lead through Dani in the 8th minute, which was equalised in the 43rd minute by Van Nistelroy, the summer signing from Manchester United. Then in the 46th minute Raul put Madrid ahead before Dani squared the game again in the 60th minute only for Cannavaro to once again put Madrid ahead in the 76th minute. With time running out Betis pulled off yet another come back to make it 3-3 in the 88th minute with a goal from Edu. So yet again the semi-final went to penalties and with all 5 successful conversions from Betis and 4 from Madrid up stepped Roberto Carlos to take the match into sudden death penalties only to see his effort saved by Doblas. So it was Cadiz against Real Betis in the final , while Real Madrid and Villareal played the consolation match. So to the final between Cadiz and Real Betis in front of 16,000 spectators. the match started badly for Cadiz when they went a goal behind in the 20th minute from a strike by Edu and went further behind on the stroke of half time when Joaquin slotted home. Cadiz came back strongly in the second half and were soon rewarded in the 56th minute when Medina pulled a goal back to make it 1-2. Their persistence paid off in the 66th minute when Acuna made it 2-2, which remained the final score and meant that the third match out of the four played in the tournament was to be decided on penalties. In the penalty shoot out Betis were up first and slotted their first 3 home as did Cadiz, making it 3-3. Then up to the spot came Rivera for Betis who made it 4-3, in response up to the mark came Acuna only to see his effort fail and the score remained 4-3 to Betis with the last man to come. Up stepped Edu for the kill but his effort missed the mark and so it was left to Lucas Lobos to slot home his effort and take the match to sudden death. Up came Nano to take the first sudden death penalty but he fired off target to leave Enrique to step up for Cadiz but he also failed to convert leaving it all square. Next to the mark was Capi for Betis but his effort also failed to find the net leaving Cadiz the favourites again to take the trophy. And so it was when Bezares converted to make it 5-4 to Cadiz. May 2006 After the disappointment of the relegation from the Primera Liga after just one season back in the top flight Cadiz have parted company with coach Victor Esparrago. Although the team played well and put up a brave fight they were unable to stay up but won many new admirers due to their attacking play. However at a meeting of the technical committee at the club it was decided, by a majority decision, that the time was right to change the coach in preparation for the push for an immediate return to the Primera Liga. The club have caused quite a surprise by now naming Oli as the new coach. Oli, whose real name is Jesus Alvarez Gonzalez, only received his coaching badge in March 2005. He still had one year left on his contract and was expecting to play for another year and admitted that he was not expecting to be given such a high profile job so soon. It should not be such a shock to those who truly support Cadiz that they should choose Oli, as he has earned the respect of everyone at the club, the supporters and, most importantly, the players during his time at the club.
