Season 2006/07 info click here 4th May 2008 Racing Ferrol 2-1 Cadiz - After the home side powered their way to a 2-0 lead at half time, Cadiz came out for the second half with all guns blazing and completely dominated the half but despite this dominence they were only able to get one goal back from the head of Fleurquin to make it 2-1 to the home team. A second consecutive week where los amarillos failed to pick up any points leaves them just four points above the relegation places although they are only four points off of seventh place, so tight is this league. Unfortunately it was the poor performance of the referee that will be the talking point in a match that looked to have 0-0 written all over it after a pretty scrappy first half, during which Enrique looked to have been upended in the box but the referee waved play on. Then within three minutes of the second half Miguel Garcia tackled a visiting player from behind, definitely a foul and a deserved yellow card but the referee, to the amazement of all, showed Garcia a straight red and effectively scuppered the home teams chance of taking the three points. In the 58th minute Diego Castro scored a quite superb individual effort to put Sporting Gijon ahead. Despite playing three at the back, throwing on attackers for defenders and finding it 10 men against 10 with fifteen minutes to go, after Camara received his second yellow, Cadiz were unable to equalise and the game ended with the visitors taking the points and moving back to the third promotion place. Read match report here. 20th April 2008 Numancia 0-1 Cadiz - A fantastic result for los amarillos against league leaders and promotion certainties, Numancia tonight. The home team were very powerful going forward and Cadiz defended the threat well, whilst at the other end Dani and Natalio, were causing problems of their own to the home defence. The winner came from Dani just 10 minutes from time when he diverted a Kosowski cross into the goal. Read match report here. 13th April 2008 Cadiz 2-1 Albacete - After going ahead in the first minute of the game through Miguel Garcia, it was the perfect start for los amarillos under the leadership of the B team trainer, Raul Procopio. With the crowd right behind the team surely they were going to see off the opposition with a resounding win but just ten minutes before half time Paz and Caneda were unable to deal with a through ball under pressure from the Albacete centre forward and as the ball broke towards goal the Albacete player stole half a yard on the two defenders and was brought tumbling to the ground in the penalty box by Caneda. The referee had no option other than to show Caneda a straight red and award the visitors a penalty, which they duly converted to make it all square, with more than half the match to go and Cadiz down by a player. The tables were turned half way through the second half when Dani went down at the far post when trying to reach a Kosowski free kick and the referee pointed to the spot, whilst booking the Albacete defender. Paz stepped up to cheekily chip the ball in as the Albacete keeper dived to his left to make it 2-1 to los amarillos, which is the way the game ended and a very valuable three points gained by the home team. He is Joao Henrique of Andrade Amaral, to be known as Andrade, who has been signed from Brazilian Serie A side Vasco de Gama. Andrade was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil on the 13th October 1981 and has spent most of his playing career in Brazil playing 3 seasons at the famous Santos before dropping down a division to play for Santa Cruz for another 3 seasons and then returning to the top flight with Vasco de Gama. When his short contract ended at Vasco de Gama in 2006 he signed a three year deal with top Portuguese side Sporting Braga. Although he played a number of times for the team he never really settled and returned to Vasco de Gama in 2007 signing a two year deal. He has completed the normal medical and although he will not appear for Cadiz until next year he will commence training with the squad immediately. 6th April 2008 News today that Antonio Calderon has been sacked as the trainer of Cadiz cf following the recent run of results that have left the club nearer to the relegation zone than to the promotion places. Until such time as a new trainer has been found the Cadiz B leader, Raul Procopio, will take charge of the first team. 5th April 2008 Xerez 2-1 Cadiz - Los amarillos were not good enough to take any points away from the local derby at Jerez. After going in at half time with the score still at 0-0 things were looking good for a point but just 10 minutes into the second half the home team were ahead when Aythami, pounced on a loose ball in the area after it wasn't cleared from a corner. With just three minutes left Dani equalised and it looked as if the points would be shared. However with 3 minutes out of the 4 added on Yordi, the leagues top scorer, rose to head home with Contreras disappointed not to have saved the effort from close range. Read match report here. 30th March 2008 Cadiz 1-1 Elche - With both sides looking for points the first half ended 0-0 with only distant shots from either side. Dani headed home to make it 1-0 to Cadiz late in the second half but, with time running out, the ball smacked into the outstretched arm of Paz as he threw himself in to block a shot from just inside the area. Although he had made no move to stop the ball with his arm the referee signalled a penalty and then showed the unfortunate central defender a straight red. The penalty was converted and the match ended all square at 1-1. Read match report here. 22nd March 2008 Las Palmas 2-0 Cadiz - A very disappointing result away at lowly Las Palmas, who played a very defensive game for most of the game relying on quick breaks to try and score. With a goal just before half time and another almost half way through the second half the home team picked up all three points. Read match report here. 15th March 2008 Cadiz 2-0 Poli Ejido - In a pretty scrappy match with a somewhat scrappy performance from los amarillos they did enough to take a much needed three points with a 2-0 win. The goals came from Natalio, who looks to be a class above the other players in the segunda, with a strike in each half. Read match report here. 8th March 2008 Eibar 1-0 Cadiz - Yet another disappointing result despite having the better possession and opportunities Cadiz went down 1-0 at Eibar to a goal scored just before half time by Martino. Read match report here. 2nd March 2008 Cadiz 1-1 Castellon - After going ahead early on with a first league goal for Gustavo Lopez it looked good for los amarillos to take all three points. However within three minutes of the start of the second half the visitors were back on terms when Oberman scored. Despite Cadiz continuing to attack and Castellon being reduced to 10 men when Aurelio was sent off with some 15 minutes to go los amarillos were unable to grab a winner and could only pick up a disappointing point. Read match report here. 23rd February 2008 Cordoba 2-2 Cadiz - After going two nil down within 40 minutes and losing two key players, Diego Rivas and Cristian, to injuries before half time los amarillos did exceptionally well to come back and take a good point. Another goal from Natalio just before half time gave Cadiz a much needed boost before the break and they came out fighting in the second half and got their just rewards in the 75th minute when De la Cuesta fired a loose ball home after a Parri free kick. Read match report here. 17th February 2008 Cadiz 2-0 Alaves - In unusually inclement weather with a howling wind and rain falling just before kick off and during the first quarter of an hour of the match Cadiz controlled this contest well. With a goal in each half from Natalio los amarillos took all three points with a 2-0 win. Read match report here. 10th February 2008 Salamanca 1-1 Cadiz - In a pretty dour contest hotly fought across the centre of the park there were few goal scoring occasions and after Bangoura scored his debut goal for los amarillos on the stroke of half time, Cadiz tried to defend the lead in the second half and the ploy almost succeeded in gaining all three points. However with just seconds left Salamanca managed to draw level when Rodriguez headed home. Read match report here. 2nd February 2008 Cadiz 0-0 Tenerife - Los amarillos dominated the first 30 minutes and then virtually the whole of the second half and had a number of chances to score but regrettably it was not to be and the game petered out to a 0-0 draw. This was a much better performance than the last home game and with a bit more luck Cadiz could, and should, have taken all three points instead of just the one. There were plenty of positives to take from this match with all three of the new signings playing some of the match. Read match report here. 1st February 2008 With the transfer window now ended Cadiz have signed the three new players as shown before and sold a total of five players. Those five are Lucas Lobos and Matias Pavoni, which have already been noted in this site along with long serving Armando, who after 10 years at the club has signed for Athletico Bilbao. Gone also is Luciano Vella, the right back who has returned to Argentina with Velez Sarsfield and the final player leaving Cadiz is young Chico, who was on loan to Racing Club Portuense but has been signed by Barcelona. 27th January 2008 Granada 2-1 Cadiz - In a scrappy match Cadiz had enough chances to take something from this game but in the end it all came down to a decision by the referee in the 87th minute, when he took plenty of time to decide that when the ball hit Gonzalo Vicente's hand it was deserving of a penalty from which Luque scored to make it 2-1 to the home team. Read match report here. 24th January 2008 The third new signing has been announced today and it is Natalio Lorenzo Porquet who has been signed from U D Almeria. He was born on the 18th June 1984 in Valencia and is a versatile footballer able to play down the wings, in midfield or upfront. Last season he was with Castellon and his 16 goals helped to save them from relegation. He has yet to break into the Almeria team and joins Cadiz on loan for the rest of the season. 23rd January 2008 The second new signing during this transfer window has been announced today. The signing is subject to the usual medical this afternoon but all being well the new Cadiz player is Polish international right winger, Kamil Kosowski, who is signing from Polish side Wisla Krakow for up to two years. He is a quick player who predominantly plays down the right wing but is also able to play down the left and was in the Polish squad for the 2006 World Cup and is a member of the current Polish side which has qualified for the Euro 2008 Championships in Switzerland and Austria. He was born in Poland on 30th August 1977 and stands at 186cm (6' 1") weighing 73 kgs(11st 7lbs). He came to prominence playing in Poland after some excellent performance with Wisla Krakow during his four years there from 1999 to 2003 and especially when he starred for the team during the 2002/03 UEFA Cup. His displays during that campaign brought him to the attention of other European clubs and he signed for German side Kaiserslauten shortly afterwards. Unfortunately he struggled with the language and his club career went into a bit of a decline and he went on loan to Southampton in 2005/06 and to Verona the following season before returning to his current club in Poland at the start of this season. He has been a regular in the team but could not reach a satisfactory extension of his current contract so by mutual agreement he has been allowed to leave the club. 21st January 2008 Cadiz have so far failed in their attempt to sign Patrick Ogunsoto, although it is still possible that he may end up at Cadiz. In the meantime it looks as if Cadiz have agreed to sign Sambengou Bangoura from Portuguese first division side, Boavista. He will sign until the end of the season with Cadiz having an option to sign him for up to a further three years. He was born in Guinea, Africa on the of April 1982 and stands 1.85 metres tall and is a strong, powerful centre forward who has played in the Belgian first division with Standard Liege and also played in the English Championship for Stoke. He has also played for his country but he has had personal problems in the past which caused Stoke to unload him at a considerable loss after he failed to turn up for training and then a match. Although signed from Boavista he has been unable to break into the team and has played only briefly this year. 20th January 2008 Cadiz 1-2 Hercules - This was a truly abysmal display from Cadiz and the scoreline of only 1-2 flattered los amarillos. The team were a shambles tonight with passes going astray virtually every play, with little running into space and probably only three of the starting line up playing to the level expected of them. When so many of the team are having a bad day at the office, including Mr Reliable himself, Abraham Paz, then you know you're in trouble. Hercules looked and played as if they were the home team going ahead in the 34th minute. Cadiz were awarded a penalty when Enrique was brought down in the box and Parri coolly slotted the resultant kick home and the fans were hoping that this would bring the team back into the game with a purpose. It was not to be and as the atmosphere in the stadium, like the display from Cadiz, went completely flat the visitors scored a winning goal after having another ruled out for offside and another effort clattering into the post with Contreras well beaten. Read match report here. 13th January 2008 News today that Cadiz have signed a new striker, although the deal is still to be fully concluded. The new player is Nigerian Patrick Ogunsoto, who is signing to Cadiz for the rest of this season plus another 3 years. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria on the 19th April 1983 and started his European playing career in Greece as a 16 year old. He moved to the third division team of Ergotelis and scored 30 goals in 32 games in his first season helping the team to promotion. They were also promoted in the following season with Ogunsoto scoring 9 goals in 25 games. He then scored 11 goals in 29 matches in the top Greek league but Ergotelis were relegated to the B Division and in his final season in Greece he scored 21 goals in 27 games. He was then signed in 2006 by Belgian side KVC Westerlo and scored 19 goals in 34 games in his first season there. He is a strong running battering ram of a player who looks to be an ideal signing for Cadiz. 13th January 2008 Sevilla Athletic 1-2 Cadiz - After a goalless first half Cadiz took the lead early in the second half but the home team pulled it back to all square with 25 minutes still to play but in the final minute Casas scored to give los amarillos the points. Read match report here. 9th January 2008 Another favourite of the fans and excellent servant of Cadiz c.f. said goodbye to his fellow amarillos. Matias Pavoni recently requested a move as he was not getting enough minutes playing or participating, which has been all the more surprising considering that he would have been fighting for the position in the team taken up by Nano, who has disappointed in recent matches. Pavoni is moving to play his football in Greece and we wish him all the best for the future. It is understood that up to three new players are being pursued by Cadiz to be signed during the transfer window and we will keep you informed as to the progress of any signings. 5th January 2008 Cadiz 0-1 Malaga - What a nightmare start to 2008 when the first Cadiz player to touch the ball tonight was Contreras as he picked the ball out of the net after just 15 seconds. With the visitors going one nil up so so quickly it was all uphill with los amarillos throwing everything at, second in the table, Malaga to try and get back on terms and salvage at least a point. Unfortunately it was not to be and their Andalucian rivals walked away with the three points. Read match report here. 31st December 2007 The next home match against, second in the table and Andalucian rivals, Malaga kicks off at 20.00 on Saturday 5th January 2008. Tickets go on sale from 10.00 on Wednesday 2nd January 2008. 22nd December 2007 Gimnastic 0-1 Cadiz - Another victory for los amarillos pushes them further up the table and closing in on the promotion places. With the departure of Lucas Lobos it was important to keep the momentum going as Cadiz continue the long climb up the table. At the moment they seem to be getting the run of the ball and the decisions, which makes a change from the early part of the season when everything seemed to go against them. The goal came in the 87th minute when Dani tried to fire a shot on the turn but mishit the ball, which bobbled to Casas in front of goal with only the keeper in front of him and possibly in an offside position. He had no trouble in slotting the ball home and the referee waved the protests from the home team away and allowed the goal to stand. Read match report here. 20th December 2007 Breaking news today that will stun all Cadistas is that Lucas Lobos is leaving Cadiz with immediate effect. He has been signed for 3 years by the Mexican team Tigres de Monterrey. The sale of Lobos was not instigated by the club and the decision to leave Cadiz was taken by the player himself after lengthy negotiations with the Mexican club. However Cadiz will retain an option for the player to return to los amarillos at the end of his 3 year contract. 17th December 2007 Tickets for the rest of the season are now on sale, called El Bonovuelta, they are not only for all the home games in the second half of the season but will also be valid for the remaining two home games in the first half of the season. For example prices for the preferencia are at €260 for an adult, compared to €324 if the tickets were purchased seperately. Another advantage of buying the Bonovuelta is that your season ticket is guaranteed for 2008/2009, especially useful if Cadiz gain promotion to the Primera Liga. 16th December 2007 Cadiz 3-1 Celta Vigo - A hard fought three points for los amarillos against another side relegated from the Primera Liga last season and laying fifth in the table at the start of this weekend. In a fairly scrappy first half there were no goals and most efforts were from distance that were easily dealt with by both keepers. Dani however did well with a brave flying header that flew over the bar and probably should have done better when he also put a left footed effort over the bar from a tight angle with the goal at his mercy. Within minutes of the restart Cadiz were one up when some terrible defensive mistakes allowed Dani to head the ball over the floundering Celta keeper and into the empty net. Not long afterwards and it was 1-1 when a 25 yard free kick, which was meant for someone to head home found its way through a whole crowd of players and past the despairing dive of Contreras. Another mistake by the Celta keeper, who leapt high to catch a ball but then dropped it as he clattered into a defender and Dani, saw the ball drop free and Dani was the first to react and slot the ball home to make it 2-1. In the dying minutes Contreras had to make a great save to keep Cadiz ahead and Paz collected the loose ball that had bounced off the keeper, fired it up to the halfway line where Lobos was free with only one defender ahead of him. Lobos raced forward and pushed the ball beyond the defender and in the race that followed he managed to get his foot to the ball first and dragged it back. With another defender catching up Lobos slid the ball square to Casas who took one touch and then coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to wrap it all up at 3-1 for Cadiz. Read match report here. 9th December 2007 Real Sociedad 0-0 Cadiz - Up against a strong Real Sociedad, the ex Primera Liga side now managed by ex-Fulham manager, Chris Coleman, Cadiz can be well satisfied in a strong display that resulted in them coming away from the Estadio Anoeta with a well earned point. Read match report here. 2nd December 2007 Cadiz 3-1 Racing Ferrol - It was back to winning ways for los amarillos last night when they overcame Racing Ferrol 3-1 at the Carranza. With goals from Cristian, Enrique and Dani against one from the visitors the final score was 3-1 and another very valuable three points for Cadiz. Read match report here. 25th November 2007 Sporting Gijon 4-2 Cadiz - The main talking point at this match was less to do with the football but more to do with the refereeing decisions. After the home team opened the scoring in the first few minutes Cadiz got back on terms before a quarter of an hour had been played and at that stage were holding there on against third placed Sporting Gijon. However after half an hour came the first decision that went against Cadiz when Gonzalo Vicente was shown a straight red card for, what appeared to be, an apparent aggression and so it was ten man Cadiz against the high flying home team for at least an hour. The numeric disadvantage didn't faze los amarillos and they easily held their own and could easily have been ahead at half time when a Paz effort was cleared off the line. The home side went 2-1 up at the start of the second half before another couple of decisions that went against the visitors, firstly Casas was fouled in the box when in a clear goal scoring position and although the referee awarded a penalty he only showed a yellow card to the offender when it could and probably should have been a red. The referee then ruled out Casas' conversion for encroachment and ordered the kick to be retaken and this time the second effort was saved. The home team then scored two quick goals before Dani pulled one back for Cadiz making the final score 4-2. To make matters worse Casas was sent off in the final minutes along with Castro from Sporting Gijon after a melee. Read match report here. 18th November 2007 Cadiz 0-0 Numancia - It was not to be three successive victories for los amarillos, as they played host to second in the league, Numancia. Despite dominating much of the play Cadiz were unable to break the deadlock although they came close on a number of occasions with the best efforts coming from Lobos, Enrique and Paz. Numancia looked very dangerous in deadball situations and have obviously been well trained in these plays but the Cadiz defense held strong and they collected a much needed point against a very strong outfit. Read match report here. 12th November 2007 Due to a bereavement in the family we had to return to the UK and have been unable to update this site. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are working to update the site fully as soon as possible. 11th November 2007 Albacete 0-1 Cadiz - A second consecutive victory for los amarillos, this week against fellow strugglers Albacete. The only goal of the game came in the 69th minute when Lucas Lobos fired in a direct free kick that beat the keeper. It wasn't a great match and Cadiz still look to have big problems upfront, which hopefully they will be able to sort out in the not too distant future, otherwise they will struggle to climb the table and, maybe, battle for promotion this season. Read match report here. 3rd November 2007 Cadiz 2-1 Xerez - At last a victory and three points to start the long climb up the table, made even sweeter as the win came against local rivals, Xerez. With two goals from Captain for the day, Abraham Paz, in the first 20 minutes all looked to be going well for los amarillos for a change. However the blues from Xerez scored just before half time to make it 2-1 and the second half was full of nervous tension in the Carranza as the Cadistas tried to raise the players to keep the lead and take the points. In a hard fought contest the score remained the same at the final whistle to the relief of the players and the fans. Read match report here. 30th October 2007 Arturo Baldasano and his group have today relinquished control of Cadiz cf back to Antonio Munoz after reaching a final settlement agreement. This will all be ratified at the shareholders meeting on the 15th November 2007. Now that the administration of the club has been finally sorted out we can only hope that the whole club can move on and recover as soon as possible from all that has gone on over the last few months. 27th October 2007 Elche 1-0 Cadiz - The nightmare continues for los amarillos as they lost to a last gasp goal in the 5th minute of time added on at Elche. This was after they had a goal disallowed at the end of the first half after an effort from Paz was adjudged offside and after they had been reduced to 9 men in the second half after both Fleurquin and Cristian received second yellow cards, whilst Elche were reduced to 10 men when Miguel received a straight red after a wild attack on Rivas. Read match report here. 20th October 2007 Cadiz 0-0 Las Palmas - Cadiz last night stopped the rot and took a point against lowly Las Palmas, although it was definitely two points dropped as los amarillos played with plenty of passion and determination and dominated much of the match. However despite the superior possession the visitors probably had the better chances to score and but for a couple of fairly easy saves by Contreras and a couple of desperate last ditch challenges by De La Cuesta and Cristian the Canarians would more than likely have scored and taken all the points. There was however plenty to be positive about the Cadiz display and there were some excellent passages of team play, defensively they are very strong and they have plenty of ball players across midfield but the biggest problem for the team is the lack of firepower upfront. Read match report here. 14th October 2007 Polideportivo Ejido 1-0 Cadiz - After the home side went one up in the eighth minute they effectively shut up shop allowing Cadiz plenty of space in the centre but closing down everything around their area. Despite the pressure from los amarillos they were unable to get back on terms and fell to their forth successive defeat. To make matters worse they has both Bezares and Vicente sent off for two yellows each. Read match report here. 11th October 2007 Antonio Calderon, the second team trainer has been appointed as interim first team coach following the dismissal of Remon Garcia. 11th October 2007 After the defeat last night Mariano Garcia Remon, the first team trainer has been relinquished of his duties after just 7 games of this new season. Despite the problems with the Baldasano group it appears that Mr Baldasano is still the one pulling the strings as he broke the news to Mariano Garcia Remon personally. Let us all hope that this 'sacking' will not go the same way as the ' sacking' of Vincent del Bosque and his team, which included Remon Garcia, from Besiktas in 2004/2005, which resulted in the Turkish club being forced by tribunal to pay hefty compensation to the 'sacked' management team.. 10th October 2007 Copa del Rey - Cadiz 2-3 Granada 74 - With
all the problems of the administration of the club it was hardly surprising that
this would not have a negative affect on the players. This third round match had
Cadiz with a starting line up of Armando, Vella (Gustavo López), Paz, De
Quintana (Dani), Fleurquin (Gonzalo Vicente), Miguel García, Bezares, Parri,
Nano and Gastón Casas however no sooner had the game started and Cadiz were a
goal behind when in the second minute Juanlu fired past Armando. The visitors,
who Cadiz beat in the first league game of this season, laid siege to the Cadiz
goal in the first half with Armando being kept very busy. The pressure had to
pay dividends and in the 20th minute Falcon scored the second for Granada with
the only chance of the first half hour for Cadiz coming in the 24th minute when
Casas fired over. Worst was to come for los amarillos when in the 28th minute
the visitors scored a third goal when Benja converted. It looked all over for
Cadiz but they battled back and Fleurquin was unlucky to see his shot scrape the
wrong side of the post and a few minutes later a good centre by Bezares was
headed over by Parri. Right at the beginning of the second half it looked as if
Granada were going to make it four when Armando rushed out of his goal but was
beaten to the ball but with the ball looking to roll into the empty net Paz
managed to make the ground and keep the ball out. Shortly after coming on Dani
was upended in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. Casas strode up to
take the kick and scored to make it 1-3 in the 69th minute. Just three minutes
later it was 2-3 when Dani fired home and suddenly there were hopes of a
dramatic comeback and los amarillos piled on the pressure. Firstly Parri centred
for Bezares to head goalwards but the Granada keeper was able to save the effort
and then Nano was unable to reach a Lopez cross. In the 83rd minute Falcon was
sent off for two yellow card offences but Cadiz were unable to get back on terms
despite the numerical advantage and so crashed out of the cup. 10th October 2007 To add to the current woes of Cadiz again has the Baldasano group stated that they will not complete the purchase of the majority shareholding claiming serious financial irregularities in the accounts of the club, which, according to this group, mean that the club has a negative net worth. The true financial position of the club, according to this group, is not what they were advised of when they made the decision to buy the majority shareholding from Antonio Munoz. The previous President, Antonio Munoz, has refuted all these claims and it looks as if this matter will now only be resolved through the courts. Regrettably this will probably take a long time to be finalised and in the meantime who will lead the administration of the Cadiz Football Club?. An extra-ordinary general meeting has been called for the 15th November. 7th October 2007 Cadiz 1-2 Eibar - After going one up in the first half when a long shot from Christian took a deflection and found the bottom of the net, Cadiz were undone in the second half when the visitors scored two goals. The first was from the penalty spot after Vicente crudely brought down the Eibar right winger and the second was as a result of poor defending; with Contreras possibly also at some fault, when a free kick came into the box and was missed by everyone, bounced near the bye line about 2 yards to the right of the goal and was somehow headed over a defender and Contreras and into the goal. Read match report here. 1st October 2007 This weeks home game against Eibar will be kicking off on Sunday the 7th October at 18.00. 29th September 2007 Castellon 2-0 Cadiz - Cadiz are still looking for their first three points away from home after going down 2-0 at Castellon, with the home team scoring a goal in each half to claim the victory. Read match report here. 29th September 2007 Cadiz travel to Castellon for the match tonight kicking off at 18.30 without a recognized forward as both Dani nad Gaston Casas are out injured. It is likely that Nano and Pavoni will be asked to play up front and Carlos Martinez has been called up from the Cadiz Juvenil team as well. 27th September 2007 Tickets will be going on sale for the next Copa del Rey match taking place at the Carranza against Granada 74 on Wednesday night, October 10th. Tickets go on sale to season ticket holders from the 28th September until the 5th October with adult prices from €10 up to €15. They then go on sale to the general public from the 6th October with the adult prices in the Fondos at €20, for the Preferencia €25 and for the Tribuna at €30. 22nd September 2007 Cadiz 0-1 Cordoba - This Andalucian derby saw the visitors from Cordoba exact revenge for their defeat by Cadiz in the last round of the Copa Del Rey by scoring the only goal of the game in the first half and take all three points. Although Cadiz had much of the better possession and Contreras was rarely troubled they really didn't look dangerous going forward and it seemed that their best chance to score would be from a free kick. This was a disappointing result for Cadiz but what was even more disappointing was the fairly lacklustre and lightweight performance. Read match report here. 15th September 2007 Alaves 1-1 Cadiz - In a hard fought game two goals in the space of two minutes halfway through the second half saw the points shared. Alaves were the first to break the deadlock in the 63rd minute after intense pressure but Parri, who started his first league game also scored his debut goal for los amarillos in the 65th minute. Any point away from home in the Segunda A is a good result but there is some bad news, Enrique, who has been playing superbly recently went off injured and will be out for about 4 weeks. Read match report here. 14th September 2007 Cadiz have been drawn against Granada 74 in the third round of the Copa del Rey. The match will be held at the Carranza on the 10th October 2007. 9th September 2007 Cadiz 1-0 Salamanca - A rather fortunate 3 points for los amarillos last night as a twelfth minute goal from Gaston Casas was good enough to give victory to Cadiz at the final whistle, against a very strong and determined Salamanca. del Rey Second Round - Cordoba 2-3 Cadiz (After extra time. 1-1 at 90 mins) - In
front of a crowd of 6,000 Cadiz visited fellow Segunda A rivals, Cordoba, in
this second round match in the Copa del Rey. The starting line up for los
amarillos was Limia, Vella, De Quintana, De la Cuesta, Gonzalo Vicente,
Enrique, Diego Rivas, Miguel García, Parri, Pavoni and Dani. Cordoba started
the game strongly with Arthuro firing in a fierce shot in the first minute that
whistled inches wide. Cadiz were not fazed by this pressure and gradually began
to take more control in the centre of the park, where Parri was making his debut
and conducting things well. Cordoba still pressed hard and in the 25th minute
looked to have taken the lead when Arthuro shot past Limia but he was adjudged
offside and the goal was ruled out. So the first half continued with Cadiz
holding a pressing home team and waiting for the right opportunity to go
forward. the best chance came in stoppage time in the first half when Parri
finished off a cross from Enrique, that just went wide. There was still time for
Pavoni to put a ball over the top for Dani to run onto and fire goalwards but
again his effort was just wide. 5th September 2007 The squad details for this season have now been fully updated. Unfortunately los amarillos also lost this encounter going down 2-0 with a goal in each half from Nino and Ayoze. Read match report here. 31st August 2007 A whirlwind of activity in the transfer market on the last day of August has seen a new signing for Cadiz and the departure of 3 players from Cadiz. Firstly the ninth new signing is Libero Parri, a central midfielder, who has been signed from Albacete for 4 seasons. The 25 year old has a wealth of experience playing in the Primera Liga for Valencia, Villareal and Albacete. The transfers out sees Chico off to local Segunda B outfit Racing Club de Portuense, the Puerto Santa Maria team; Cacique Medina has signed for fellow Segunda A team Racing Ferrol and finally young Javier Acuña has gone on loan to another Segunda A side, Salamanca, for this season but will not be able to play against Cadiz when the two teams meet. 29th August 2007 Another player has been signed today, the eighth new signing for the new season. It is 34 year old Argentinian, Gustavo Lopez, who has been signed on a free transfer from Celta Vigo. He is an attacking left sided midfielder who has played more than 300 games in the Primera Liga with Real Zaragoza and Celta Vigo and scored 33 goals. Having played in Spain for the last 11 years he has dual nationality. He started his playing career with Independiente of Argentina and during the years 1994 to 2002 played 35times for his National side scoring 4 goals. 25th August 2007 Cadiz 2-0 Granada 74 - The first league game of the new season saw Cadiz take the three points against Granada 74, which is the team previously known as Ciudad de Murcia, which finished fourth in this league last season, one place ahead of los amarillos. Goals from Lobos and Enrique in the second half saw a sound victory to Cadiz. Read match report here. 21st August 2007 The seventh new signing to Cadiz cf has been announced and it is the left back Gonzalo Vicente. The 27 year old Uruguayan has been signed from Real Valladolid where he played 19 games last year helping them to promotion to the Primera Liga. He played in Italy for Venice during the 2005/06 season and before that had two seasons at Liverpool of Uruguay. He should provide some competition, as well as cover, for Raul Lopez, who is out injured for at least 4 weeks. 18th August 2007 Tenerife 1-0 Cadiz - In the last pre season game of the year Cadiz travelled to Tenerife to take on their Segunda A rivals who they will meet in the second game of the actual season. The starting line up for Cadiz was Armando; Cristian, Chico, Caneda, Raúl López; Diego Rivas; Nano, Bezares, Miguel García, Javi Acuña; and Medina. Also coming on during the game were Lucas, Caballero, Panés, Vázquez, Enrique, Juanito, Paz and Germán with many of the first choice players being rested. The match was a fairly lacklustre affair with neither side able to dominate and control the game. However it was the home side that managed to break the deadlock when in the 14th minute Juanma beat Chico to a free kick over the top to slot the ball past Armando. Despite trying to press forward for an equaliser Cadiz were well held by the home defense and were unable to trouble Juan Pablo in the Tenerife goal. The match continued in much the same way with most of the danger coming from the home team and so it was in the 67th minute when good play between Santos and Ayoze resulted in Santos firing just over the bar. Again in the 80th minute Iriome found himself with time to fire over Armando but also saw his effort fly over the bar. With just three minutes left in the game Armando stormed out of his goal and fouled Hormiga earning himself a straight red card to put los amarillos down to 10 men. With just a few minutes left Tenerife were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage and the game ended with Cadiz losing 1-0. 17th August 2007 The sixth new signing for this season has been announced today. It is Diego Rivas a 27 year old central midfielder signed from Real Sociedad. Rivas started his professional career in the lower teams at Athletico Madrid before being sold to Getafe in 2002, where he helped them gain promotion to the Primera Liga. He was then sent back to Athletico Madrid, on loan, during the 2003/4 season before returning to Getafe where he played 66 games in the Primera Liga. Last season he was transferred to Real Sociedad playing 26 times in the top flight. 16th August 2007 Trofeo de Carranza - Cadiz 1-3 Real Madrid - In the consolation game Cadiz took on the current Primera Liga champions, Real Madrid and took a bit of a battering going down 1-3. The starting line up for Cadiz was Contreras, Vella, Yago, Caneda, López, Garcia, Fleurquin, Cristian, Nano, Casas and Dani. Also coming on during the game were Acuña, Caballero, Enrique, Paco Vázquez, called up from the B team, Chico and Medina, whilst the starting line up for Madrid was Dudek, Cicinho, S. Ramos, Metzelder, Marcelo, Diarra, Guti, Baptista, Robinho, Soldado and Saviola, also playing during the game Pepe, Granero, V. Nistelrooy, Sneijder, Balboa and De la Red. The game started at a fast pace with Saviola volleying a shot goalwards in the first minute, which went straight to the hands of Contreras. Cadiz came back and won 3 corners in quick succession but they came to nothing and soon Madrid were back up the other end with Robinho dancing into the box before shooting directly to Contreras who had no difficulty in saving. In the 13th minute however another Madrid attack found Saviola in the area being fouled by Garcia, leaving the referee with no hesitation to point to the spot and up stepped Soldado to slot the ball home to make it 0-1 to Madrid. Cadiz fought back well from this set back and in the 21st minute Cristian put a great cross over that Casas rose to head into the bottom of the net but whilst the crowd jumped for joy at the 'equaliser' the linesman had spotted an infringement and the referee disallowed the goal. Towards the end of the half Madrid threatened to run away with the game with several shots towards Contreras' goal but all were off target. The second half started
with the Cadiz midfield reinforced with Acuña, Enrique and Caballero all
introduced. Soon Acuña coming in from the left flew past 2 defenders and fired
in a goalbound shot that forced Dudek to turn behind for a corner. From Enriques
corner Yago leapt above the Madrid defense and planted his header agonisingly
wide of the right post. Although Madrid had certainly had the better of the play
at this point in the game los amarillos led Madrid 13-3 in corners, a reflection
of the attacking play put together by Cadiz. Enrique and Dani looked a powerful
combination down the right side and in the 59th minute Enrique had the ball cut
inside past Pepe and fired a left footed shot past the helpless Dudek to put los
amarillos back on terms with the champions. In the 73rd minute Madrid won a
corner and from this Metzelder fired in a long ball that went all the way to the
back post where Van Nistelroy, who had only just come on, had no trouble in
bundling the ball home to make it 1-2 to Madrid. With minutes to go Medina
tried to connect with a pass from Nano but ended up in a melee with Pepe and
Diarra. Once the fuss had been calmed down the referee sent off Medina and Pepe.
In the very next play the ball was played down the Madrid right wing where
Balboa attempted to cross the ball but it came off the boot of Caballeros and
diverted over the head of Contreras and into the goal to make the final score
1-3 to Madrid. Trofeo de Carranza - Real Zaragoza 1-1 Real Betis (Betis won 4-3 on penalties) - In the final of this years Trofeo de Carranza Real Betis took on fellow Primera Liga team Real Zaragoza. Real Betis scraped home in a penalty shoot out to take the trophy. With plenty of changes to the starting line ups from that of the semi finals both teams came out with attack in mind. The pace of the game was swift with Betis getting further forward and looking more dangerous than Zaragoza, who were more content to play the ball across the park. In the 26th minute Xisco won a free kick wide right and from his cross into the box Rivas connected with the ball and scored to make it 1-0 to Betis. They continued to look the more dangerous although after the goal had been scored they also tried to control the ball more across the centre of the park. The second half started in the same way as the first half had finished with neither side getting any real depth to their play and neither keeper was troubled. The best effort came when Juanfran crossed for Sergio Garcia to almost bundle the ball home and square the match but his effort bounced wide. This seemed to spur Zaragoza on and suddenly they were pressing hard for an equaliser and for several minutes put the Betis keeper, Doblas, under siege but without managing to score. They kept up this pressure and Oliveira was unlucky to see his direct free kick just scrape the wrong side of the post with Doblas well beaten. Betis woke up to the danger of allowing Zaragoza to play such an offensive game and tried to rally forward causing Lopez Vallejo to pull off a smart save from Juan Angels shot and then from the resultant corner Fernando looked to have scored but the ball was just the wrong side of the post. With time running out Zaragoza pressed forward and with just two minutes to the final whistle Sergio Garcia had two attempts in quick succession and the second of them fired into the Betis goal to make it 1-1. That was the last of the action and so again it was going to be decided on penalties. With Zaragoza going first both teams scored their first 3 penalties, Oscar then had his effort saved by Doblas giving the advantage to Betis. But then Miguel Angel saw his try also saved to keep the score at 3-3 with the fifth penalties to go. Oliveira took the final Zaragoza penalty only to see Doblas save again to leave Melli the opportunity to give the cup to Betis. Up he stepped and fired the ball past the Zaragoza keeper to make Real Betis the champions of the 53rd Trofeo de Carranza. 15th August 2007 Trofeo
de Carranza - Real Madrid 0-1 Real Betis - The second semi-final of this
years tournament saw the Primera Liga Champions, Real Madrid, take on their
Primera Liga rivals, Real Betis, with both teams fielding a lot of very
expensive talent. Madrid played a starting line up of Casillas, Torres,
Cannavaro, Pepe, Salgado, Gago, Sneijder, Balboa, Drenthe, Raúl and Van
Nistelrooy and also brought on as subs Soldado, Robinho, Metzelder, Saviola,
Dudek and Guti. Whilst Real Betis had a starting line up of Ricardo, Ilic,
Juanito, Nano, Babic, Juande, Rivera, Odonkor, González, Sobis and Pavone, also
playing subs of F. Vega, Caffa, Fernando, Miguel Angel, and Capi. 14th August 2007 Trofeo de Carranza - Cadiz 2-2 Real Zaragoza ( Real Zaragoza won 6-5 on penalties) - The first semi final of this years Trofeo de Carranza saw the home team take on Real Zaragoza, with the starting line up for Cadiz being :- Limia, Cristian, Yago, De la Cuesta, Cesar, Fleurquin, Bezares, Lobos, Enrique, Casas and Dani. In front of 12,000 supporters the teams started at a fast pace with plenty of open play and within 2 minutes Oliveira controlled a good pass and fired a shot towards the Cadiz goal that went straight into the hands of Limia. Cadiz pressed forward and one two corners in quick succession which Lobos took and from the second of these Yago rose well but was unable to beat the keeper. In the 15th minute more good play from Lobos saw the ball with Fleurquin on the edge of the area and he fired in a good shot that was only just wide. two minutes later a good passage of play between Lobos, Casas and Dani found Lobos in the area and his shot was parried by Cesar, in the Real Zaragoza goal, and Dani was just unable to convert the loose ball. Zaragoza came back and a speedy break from Oliveira saw his cross controlled down by D'Alessandro for Aimar to run onto but his effort went over the bar from close range. In the 26th minute a free kick into the area from Enrique was fiercely headed by the impressive Lobos but the ball smashed against the post and away to safety but within two minutes Cadiz won the ball in the centre of the park and released Casas wide whose cross was met by Dani and he slotted the ball past the helpless Cesar to put los amarillos 1-0 up. Again Zaragoza came back with Oliveira always looking dangerous and just before half time he was unlucky not to equalise when he headed a cross from the right just wide of the post. Within 2 minutes of the start of the second half Cadiz were two up when good play started between Dani and Bezares saw the ball go wide to Cristian who put the ball over into the area where Dani half-volleyed the ball past the despairing Cesar. Zaragoza came out looking to get back into the game and forced 3 corners in quick succession and from the third one the ball came off Enrique and found the back of the net for an own goal to bring Zaragoza back to 2-1. After the goal the tackles started flying in and the play was constantly broken by the referees whistle, which eventually led to Bezares being sent off for two yellow card offences with another couple of yellow cards handed out to the Zaragoza team. To try to shore up the middle of the park Remon took off Casas and put on Miguel Garcia but the numeric advantage that Zaragoza held meant that they took more and more control of the game and it was inevitable that the equalising goal would surely come. So it did in the 70th minute when Sergio Garcia turned the ball in from a wide cross to score his first goal for Zaragoza after joining them this year. With 20 minutes left and still being a man down Cadiz tried to slow the game down and use Enrique wide to use up time. On one of his incursions into the Zaragoza box he appeared to be tripped but the referee waved play on. The final chance during normal play came when Oliveira fired a shot off which Limia saved with his right leg and the score at the final whistle remained 2-2. So to penalties with
Contreras in the Cadiz goal after replacing Limia shortly before the end of the
game. Both sides scored the first 5 each with Miguel Garcia, Fleurquin, Nano,
Lucas and De La Cuesta scoring for Cadiz. Sergio Garcia then made it 6-5 to
Zaragoza with Vella trying to level but his shot was saved by Miguel, who had
replaced Cesar in the Zaragoza goal to put the Primera Liga team through to the
final, leaving Cadiz to contest for the third place on Thursday evening. 12th August 2007 Racing Club Portuense 0-3 Cadiz - The final pre-season friendly saw Cadiz take on their local rivals, Racing Club Portuense from Puerto Santa Maria, who came third in their segunda B group division last season and actually finished above Cordoba, who gained promotion to the segunda A. The starting line up for Cadiz saw them line up in the 4-4-2 formation with Limia, Vella, Chico, Yago, Lucas, Caballero, Bezares, Enrique, Nano, Medina and Acuña but, unusually, Nano partnered Medina up front and Acuña played as the left midfielder. Playing on the artificial surface the pace was fast and furious with much of the better passing being played by the home team, without them causing any problems for Limia in the Cadiz goal. Los amarillos however looked the more dangerous going forward with some good strong running by Nano and, the first half captain, Enrique. In fact it was Enrique who had the first effort on goal when he pounced on a loose ball in midfield and fired in a long shot that just went high and wide. Shortly after, in the 38th minute, Cadiz cleared a Racing Club attack and good pressure from Acuña forced a poor header by a defender and the ball ran loose. Enrique was on to it in a flash and stormed through the middle of the defense to stroke the ball wide of the advancing Wilfred and into the bottom right hand corner of the goal to make it 0-1 to Cadiz. During the second half De Quintana, Raul López, Paz, Cristian, Casas, García and Sergio all came on to replace Vella, Yago, Lucas, Bezares, Enrique, Nano and Acuña. Cadiz came out strongly in the second half and put much more pressure on the man with the ball closing down well but without creating any real chances from open play. However just 5 minutes into the half good play down the right between Acuña and Nano saw the big Galician go on a strong weaving run towards the Racing Club area only to be tripped just outside the box. The referee awarded Cadiz a free kick, which Nano, himself, took and he fired in a left foot curler over the wall and past the despairing dive of the substitute keeper, Eneko, to find the bottom right hand corner of the net to put the visitors 0-2 ahead. It was not all Cadiz and good play by the home team saw Zurdo bearing down on goal at pace getting a header to the ball, which Limia did extremely well to parry from short range and keep the ball out of the net. With just 5 minutes left on the clock Paz put a good ball over the top of the home defense, which Eneko looked favourite to collect but Medina powered through to toe poke the ball over the young keeper, managing to continue his run past the keeper and slot the loose ball into the net to make the final score 0-3 to Cadiz, giving los amarillos their second trophy, the Trofeo Ciudad de El Puerto, of the season. The win makes it 7 out of 7 with a total of 27 goals scored against just 1 conceded. 8th August 2007 Algeciras 0-1 Cadiz - Another tough outing for Cadiz against Algeciras, newly promoted to the segunda B, saw los amarillos come out on top with the only goal of the game. The starting line up for Cadiz was Contreras, making his debut, Cristian, De la Cuesta, Caneda, Raúl López, Enrique, Fleurquin, Bezares, Pavoni, Casas and Dani. It was the home team the started the better and put the visitors under some pressure and they could have gone ahead in the 8th minute when Cabrera found the ball at his feet in front of goal but he blasted the ball over the bar. Gradually the Cadiz midfield started to take control and use the wings, especially Enrique on the right, to spread the play. The speed and control of Enrique, who was once at Algeciras, caused all the problems for Algeciras and the first real chance for Cadiz came after good play between Casas and Enrique, whose cross was met by Pavoni but his shot was turned round by Felix, in the Algeciras goal. Shortly after that effort Pavoni took a knock to his right ankle and was substituted with Sesma taking his place. In the 37th minute Cadiz almost took the lead when Enrique's corner was headed by De La Cuesta but his effort clipped the right hand post before going out for a goal kick. Nano started up front in the second half and was soon causing problems for the home defense. In the 58th minute he rounded 2 defenders and fired a right foot shot, which went straight to the goalkeepers hands but within 10 minutes a good cross by Cristian was well controlled by Nano and this time he fired in a fierce left foot shot from the edge of the area, which beat the keeper to put Cadiz one up. Shortly afterwards Nano was again involved when his cross found the head of Medina but his effort hit the post before being cleared to safety. In the final few minutes the home team came back at los amarillos and in the space of two minutes Juanpe had a couple of shots, the first from inside the area was well covered by Armando and the second, a direct free kick sailed over the bar to keep the final score 0-1 to Cadiz. Also coming on during the second half for Cadiz were Armando, Caballero, Vella, Medina, Paz and Lucas. The final game of the pre-season friendlies, before next weeks Trofeo de Carranza, is at Puerto Santa Maria on Sunday 12th August, kicking off at 22.00. 4th August 2007 Los
Barrios 0-2 Cadiz - The fifth consecutive win of the pre-season friendlies
for Cadiz with this 0-2 win at Los Barrios. The starting line up for Cadiz was
Limia, Cristian, De la Cuesta, Yago, Caneda, Sesma, Bezares, Fleurquin, Lobos,
Pavoni and Casas, playing in the same 4-4-2 formation, which appears to be the
preferred set up for the Manager, Garcia Remon. Although the first half remained
goalless Cadiz were fully in control of the match and they had several
opportunities to open the scoring, whereas Limia was never troubled. The next game is against Algeciras on Wednesday, 8th August kicking off at 21.00. 3rd August 2007 Puerto Real 1-1 Cadiz (Cadiz won 5-4 in penalty shoot-out) - In their fourth pre-season game Cadiz were facing their toughest test yet taking on third division side Puerto Real for the XXVIII, Trofeo Villa de Puerto Real. the starting line up for Cadiz was : Armando, Vella, De la Cuesta, Yago, Lucas, Enrique, Cesar, Juanito, Nano, Medina and Dani, making his debut after his signing from Real Betis. The first quarter of the game was hard fought with neither side taking any sort of control of the game and wasn't until the 26th minute that the first effort on goal came from a long shot from Enrique, who tried to catch the keeper off his line but Roberto, the Puerto Real keeper, managed to dive and palm the ball wide for a corner. A few minutes later and the Cadiz defense were, for once, caught flat footed when a long ball out of the Puerto Real half found Pizarraya free with only Armando to beat. Luckily the player took the ball a bit wide and tried to centre for a colleague to follow up but his cross was hit too hard and the ball went aimlessly across the front of the goal. This spurred Cadiz on and Enrique, in particular, was causing the home team problems and won a number of corners in quick succession. From one of these corners Yago rose and headed what looked to be a perfectly good goal but the referee disallowed for some infringement. Then in the 36th minute Sanchez was adjudged to have been fouled in the Cadiz box and Guille took the resultant penalty to put the home team 1-0 ahead, scoring the first goal that Cadiz have conceded. At the start of the second half Paz, Sesma and Casas came on for De La Cuesta, Enrique and Dani respectively. Straight from the whistle the home side played with an aggression that is not usually seen in a pre-season 'friendly' and the referee booked a number of the Puerto Real players in an endeavour to keep control of the match. This was also a sign for Garcia Remon to introduce Bezares, Fleurquin and Raul Lopez and 'beef' up los amarillos. Slowly but surely Cadiz started to take control and soon a good cross from Casas was headed against the bar by Sesma. Three more players were introduced to the play with Lobos, Cristian and Pavoni coming on. Cadiz continued to press forward and Casas fired over from a good pass by Lobos and then a few minutes later Casas dribbled round several players and slipped the ball across in front of goal but there was no Cadiz player following up and the chance was wasted. then with just 8 minutes left Cadiz equalised, rather fortunately, as Sesmas 'cross' turned into a shot, which beat Roberto and put los amarillos back on terms at 1-1. Then followed the penalty shoot-out for the Trofeo Villa de Puerto Real, which saw Casas, Lobos, Paz, Fleurquin and Sesma all score, whilst Armando saved the first effort from Puerto Real to give Cadiz their first piece of silver of the season. The next game is Saturday night, 4th August, in Los Barrios kicking off at 21.00. 3rd August 2007 A fifth new signing for the next season has been announced. It is quite a surprising addition to the club as it is another goalkeeper, Pedro Contreras González, known as Koke Contreras, who has been signed from Real Betis. It is surprising because Cadiz already have 3 keepers on their books, Armando, Limia and David, who have all taken some part in the pre-season games thus far. Koke Contreras is 36 in January but comes with a wealth of top class experience having played almost 200 Primera Liga games for Real Madrid, Malaga and Real Betis in the 8 seasons from 1998 to 2006. He was also in the Spanish national squad in the Korea/Japan world cup but never got a game. His arrival could spell the end at Cadiz for either Armando or Limia, who were expecting to challenge for the number one goalkeeping spot, with Dani being the third choice keeper. Armando has been at Cadiz for almost 10 years and is the fans favourite who has been the number 1 choice for the last few seasons but he is a year older than Contreras and was at fault for a few goals last season. The Argentinian Limia is 32 and was signed in 2006 but has not had that many opportunities between the sticks. In the games he did play in last season he looked quite impressive. He recently turned down an offer from Eibar, who offered him a two year contract, as well as some offers to return to Argentina. 2nd August 2007 The renewal of season tickets has now been completed with a total of 14,755 being purchased. Season tickets are now on sale to any new subscribers, with just over 2,000 being available. details of prices can be found by pressing the 'Ticket Info' button. He has been signed from Real Betis, where he has been all his playing career since 1998, and has played the 5 seasons from 2001 in the Primera Liga, although was sidelined last season due to injury. Dani will be 26 next month and is another forward signed by the new management team at Cadiz increasing the competition for places. 31st July 2007 Rota 0-2 Cadiz - The third pre-season friendly saw Mariano Garcia Remon start with a 4-4-2 formation with the line up of Limia, Vella, Chico, new signing, Yago, Raul López, Enrique, Bezares, Lobos, Sesma, Pavoni and, another new signing, Gastón Casas. The superior quality of Cadiz was plain to see although Rota proved to be their toughest opponents thus far in the pre-season friendlies. After just 10 minutes Cadiz should have opened the scoring when Sesma was put through but was unable to convert the opportunity. It was interesting to see the Manager making Lobos and Pavoni swap positions as well as Sesma and Enrique on the wings, which increases the options open to the team during games. Soon the opportunities were coming thick and fast with new signing, Casas, having his first outing in the yellow shirt, firing a free kick just over the bar and then having a goal bound effort well saved by Paredes in the Rota goal, in between those efforts Chico also headed over from a corner. However in the 23rd minute Chico made amends for the previous effort when he rose and headed the ball home, as he had done against Chiclana, from a corner taken tonight by Enriques. Before the half time whistle Cadiz had at least another four chances with Casas proving a real handful by having two efforts saved again by the young Rota keeper, who was in fine form as he also saved an effort from Vella, although rode his luck when an Enriques effort clipped the bar. The second half saw Cristian, Paz, Fleurquin and Nano replace Vella, Chico, Enrique and Casas respectively at the start with further changes during the half with Lucas, Acuña, Medina, Parada, Sergio, David and De Quintana all making appearances. All these changes affected the rhythm and Rota had a good couple of efforts before Cadiz again took control and could have increased their lead on several occasions but they had to wait until the final minute of the game for Medina to slot the ball home, after a good cross from Lucas on the left, to make it 0-2 to los amarillos. Next up is a visit to Puerto Real on Friday night, 3rd August, kicking off at 21.00. 31st July 2007 The club captain for this season will be Jose Andrés FLEURQUIN Rubio, the Uruguyan midfielder, who has been at Cadiz now for 4 seasons. His vice captain will be Raul Lopez, the always impressive left back and the third captain will be last years club captain, Abraham Paz, who is hopefully fully recovered from his injury nightmare of last season. 28th July 2007 Details of the Trofeo Carranza have been published. The teams taking part have been confirmed as Cadiz, Real Madrid, Real Betis and Real Zaragoza. The first semi-final will kick off at 22.00 on Tuesday, 14th August with Cadiz taking on Real Zaragoza. The second semi-final will kick off at 22.00 on Wednesday, 15th August between Real Madrid and Real Betis. The consolation game between the two losing semi-finalists will kick off at 18.30 on Thursday, 16th August with the final between the two winning semi-finalists taking place later that evening kicking off at 22.00. 28th July 2007 Chiclana 0-5 Cadiz - The second pre-season friendly saw Cadiz come out on top against Chiclana in front of a crowd of 1,000. The starting line up was Limia, Vella, Chico, Cesar, Lucas, Sesma, Bezares, Miguel, Lobos, Pavoni and Nano and it was Chico who opened the scoring after just 7 minutes when he nodded the ball home after a Bezares corner. The first half hour was all Cadiz and the score could have increased on several occasions but in fact it wasn't until the 42nd minute when Pavoni converted from a good pass from Lobos to put los amarillos 0-2 up at half time. The starting line up in the second half was Armando, Cristian, Paz, De Quintana, Raúl López, Lucas, Enrique, Sergio, Parada, Medina and Acuña playing in a 4-4-2 formation. Chiclana came out stronger at the start of the second half without causing Armando and the Cadiz defense too many problems. The final 10 minutes of the game saw the superior fitness of Cadiz tell and they scored three goals in those final ten minutes with 2 goals for the 'Spaniard' Acuña and one for Enrique. The next match takes place on Tuesday the 31st July when Cadiz visit Rota. 27th July 2007 Some more good news for Cadiz today came when Javier Acuña, the Paraguayan forward, obtained Spanish nationality, which means that he does not now count as a foreigner in the team. In Spain the teams are allowed to play a maximum of 3 foreigners. Cadiz have also been drawn against Cordoba in their first game in the Copa del Rey. 25th July 2007 The third signing for the coming season has been announced today. It is a central defender, Yago Yao, who was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and will be 28 next month. He has signed for the next 3 seasons. He has been signed from Celta Vigo, where he has been for the last 8 seasons, although he has been on loan to other teams in Spain, namely Sporting B, Sporting Gijon, Oviedo and Recreativo Huelva. 25th July 2007 It also seems that the sale of the club to Arturo Baldasano will finally be completed tomorrow, 26th July 2007, after talks between Antonio Munoz and his representatives and Arturo Baldasano and his representatives, with the Mayoress of Cadiz, Teofila Martínez, in attendance acting as mediator. 25th July 2007 Benalup 0-13 Cadiz - In the first pre-season friendly los amarillos completely overwhelmed the local opposition with a resounding 13-0 victory. The main points of interest were the 4-4-2 starting formation, seven different goal scorers and the re-appearance of club captain Abraham Paz, who played the last 35 minutes of the game. The starting line up was:- Armando; Cristian, Chico, César, Raúl López; Enrique, Parada, Miguel García, Lobos, Sesma and Pavoni. The goal scorers in the first half were Pavoni, Sesma, Enrique, Cristian, Parada and Sesma. The first match in Benalup is being played on Wednesday night at 19.30 with the match in Chiclana taking place on Saturday night at 21.00. 23nd July 2007 A four hour meeting took place last night between Antonio Munoz and his representatives and Moises Israel, Arturo Baldasanos right hand man, and their representatives to try and resolve the recent problems that have arisen in regard to the sale of the majority shareholding to the Baldasano group. After the meeting Antonio Munoz and Moises Israel presented themselves before the gathered journalists and confirmed that the sale should still proceed and advised that the final documents should be signed within the next few days. There was also mention of offers received from Real Valladolid to buy De La Cuesta and Sesma from Cadiz and further information will be made public shortly. 19th July 2007 All does not seem well at Cadiz cf as the old administration have taken control of the club again. According to reports Arturo Baldasano has in the past week been threatening to not fulfill the terms of agreement and revoke the contract of sale. Additionally in the last few days we understand that Mr Baldasano has not attended meetings with the LFP, the Liga de Futbol Profesional, which are very important to the club and has also not completed the contract to televise Cadiz games, for which the club would receive €2.5million. As a result of the recent non performance by Mr Baldasano, the old administration, headed by Antonio Munoz, has re-taken control to protect the interests of the club until such time as the situation with Mr Baldasano is clarified. 17th July 2007 The second new signing by the new Management team has been completed. The Argentinian, Gaston Casas, has been signed for 3 years from Elche, where he was out of contract. Casas was born in Buenos Aires in January 1978 and is a versatile forward, who frequently gets on the score sheet. After helping his home team, Huracan, win promotion to the Argentinian Primera league in 2000 he was brought to Spain by Real Betis, where his goals helped them gain promotion to the Primera Liga. The following season he played in the Primera Liga and scored in the 3-1 victory by Real Betis over Real Madrid at the Bernabau. Unfortunately shortly afterwards Casas suffered a serious injury that kept him out of the game for 6 months. Following the injury he returned to Argentina where he played for Racing de Avellanda and then Argentinos Juniors before returning to Spain in 2005 where his 14 goals in 32 appearances helped Recreativo de Huelva to gain promotion to the Primera Liga. Last season he moved to Elche where he made 28 appearances, scoring 12 goals, the last of which was in week 40, when he scored in the 3-1 defeat by Cadiz at the Carranza. 12th July 2007 The fixture list for the new season has now been published. Please click 'Fixtures & Results' or click here for full information 10th July 2007 Information on season ticket prices for the next season have now been announced and these are shown on the ticket info page. 10th July 2007 An assistant trainer to Mariano Garcia Remon has today been named as Francisco Jiménez Martin, who was with Vincente del Bosque at Real Madrid and also at Besiktas, where the whole coaching team, originally put together by Vincente del Bosque from colleagues of his at Real Madrid, were sacked before the end of the 2004/05 season. A long drawn out case for compensation against Besiktas for Vincent del Bosque and his team of assistants was finally settled in favour of Del Bosque and his team in February of this year. Another addition to the management team is Felix Carnero, who comes in as Director of Sport, replacing Alberto Benito, who last week took up a similar post at Almeria, newly promoted to the Primera Liga. Carnero has been with Celta Vigo for the last 16 years, firstly as a player and then within the management structure before becoming Director of Sport, and brings considerable experience to the job. 10th July 2007 A new sponsor has been brought in for the 2007/08 season and it is Teka, the large industrial company that specialise in the manufacture of kitchen and bathroom equipment, electronic equipment, industrial containers and communications. The company have been established for 80 years and employ 5,000 workers, with a presence in 125 countries. They were the sponsors of Real Madrid for 10 seasons from 1992 to 2001. This is a considerable coup for Cadiz and an indication of the influential contacts that the new owners are already bringing into the club. 6th July 2007 The team return to training on the 18th July, with their first pre season friendly scheduled for the 25th July against Benalup. The dates of the other matches so far arranged are as follows:- 28th July - In Chiclana; 31st July -
In Rota; 3rd August - Puerto Real; 4th August - Los Barrios; 8th August -
Algeciras; the final local friendly match will be on the 12th August when Cadiz
take part for a trophy in El Puerto de Santa Maria. 4th July 2007 The first signing by the new regime at Cadiz took place today when 25 year old right back, Cristian Garcia, was signed from Polideportivo Ejido. He has signed a 2 year contract with a further one year extension provided Cadiz achieve promotion to the Primera Liga. Cristian Garcia was born near Barcelona and played 35 games for Poli Ejido last season, the most games by any player at the club. He had been approached by several other second division teams but was expected to sign for Primera Liga side Recreativo de Huelva, however with the change of the Recreativo manager things did not progress and so he has decided to sign for Cadiz. He will be battling for the right back position with Vella, who had an excellent season for Cadiz last year. 20th June 2007 Also coming into Cadiz cf with Baldasano and Remón is Vincente del Bosque as technical assesor, similar to a Director of football. Del Bosque was a player with Real Madrid and won 5 league titles and 4 Copa del Reys during his playing career with Real Madrid and also gained 18 international caps for Spain, being in the squad at Euro 80. He was manager of Real Madrid from 1999 to 2003 during which time they won 2 UEFA Champion league titles, 2 league titles, a Spanish Supercup, a European Supercup and an Intercontinental cup as well as being runners up in many other competitions. A week after signing David Beckham and just a day after winning the league title for the second time he was remarkably sacked as manager. He turned down an offer to act as technical director at Real Madrid and found his way to Turkey where he became manager of Besiktas but was sacked towards the end of the 2004/2005 season. Since then he was offered the role as the manager of the Mexican national team, which he turned down. He was also rumoured to be shortlisted to replace the sacked Fabio Capello at Real Madrid for the 2007/2008 season but has obviously made the decision to join Baldasano and try to get Cadiz in to the Primera Liga, 20th June 2007 The meeting in Barcelona did not take place but instead at a press meeting today in Cadiz, Antonio Munoz confirmed that he had sold his 51% holding to Arturo Baldasano Supervielle, who was born in Cadiz in 1945, where he became a lawyer and economist, before relocating to Madrid in 1981. He held a number of Bank executive positions before starting his own legal and financial advisory business. He has been an advisor to many large companies in Spain and was a candidate for the Presidency of Real Madrid in the last two elections but was unsuccessful on both occasions. He has already named the new first team manager as Mariano García Remón, who was a goalkeeper who won 6 championships and 3 cups with Real Madrid during his playing days from 1971 to 1984. He also won 2 intenational caps for Spain. Since the early 90's he has been first team coach to Real Madrid Castilla (1992/93); Sporting Gijon (1993/95); Albacete (1996/97); Las Palmas (1997/98); Salamanca (1999/2000); Numancia (2000/01) and Cordoba (2001/02). In 2004/05 he became assistant coach at Real Madrid to Jose Camacho and when Camacho resigned after just 4 games Remon was promoted to head coach. But after just 13 games he was sacked due to the perceived lack of success. His managerial record in La Liga and the first division are not great in addition to his sacking from Real Madrid he was also sacked from the 2 first division posts that he held when both teams were in a relegation position. 20th June 2007 Speculation continues regarding the sale of Cadiz c.f., as Antonio Munoz, the majority shareholder held lengthy talks in Madrid with two seperate groups who have shown interest in purchasing his shares. Additionally he is supposed to be meeting in Barcelona today with an Anglo/Russian group who are also interested and which have promised considerable financial investment in the club.
