De La Cuesta came to the attention of the Cadiz management at the World U21 Championships, and after a number of superb performances he was quickly snapped up. At the age of 21, he took the place of the dependable Paz in the heart of the defence for the last 10 games of 2003/04, and although the Spaniard has since reclaimed his place, there can be no doubt that the Colombian showed bundles of potential, and if he continues to progress at his current rate it can only be a matter of time before he is called up to his national squad and bigger clubs start taking notice. Was packed off to Real Valladolid last season on loan, where he helped them gain promotion to the Primera Liga. Although Valladolid wanted to buy De La Cuesta they couldn't reach an agreement with Cadiz and he has therefore returned to Cadiz, where he will be battling to be a major part of the defence.
